Saha comparisons are interesting because for me Welbeck at 21 is a far superior player than Saha was at the same age at Newcastle.

A superb player. Unlike Sturridge, he is intelligent and an excellent team player, always diligent wit defensive responsibilities.

Bollocks. Sturridge is a very intelligent player and a real class act. As far as I'm concerned he's just as good as Welbeck. That's not to say I don't rate Welbeck, just that I rate both equally highly.

Should play all 3.

Rooney Welbeck Sturridge

Wilshere Cleverley
Carrick

We might not win, but I'd guarantee it'd be a lot more entertaining than the dross we usually throw up.

I'd love to see that. More chance of stringing 5 passes together.

Sturridge is the 2nd best english striker right now behind Rooney IMO.

And he's Chelsea's best player in the last weeks.

He might have more ball skills than Welbeck, but Welbeck seems to have a better understanding of the game and how to play within a team, and he's younger, and may therefore make more improvements.

There is room for both in the England team.

I'm fairly sure Welbeck will be a better player than Sturridge. Being educated to play in various positions and like you say a better understanding of the game. Him and Tom really have seemed to be the bright spots of some of the education that Rene has brought with his expertise.

Welbeck's decision making is alot better than Sturridge's and it's only the execution of some the decision he makes that seems to be his downfall really. Sometimes he's a bit shy to shoot but what he brings to the team overall is something that I dont think Sturridge can offer or is even willing to offer.

his work rate impressed me the most. he works very hard off the ball and was always trying to close out the opposition players, especially during the first half.

his link up play is always excellent and he was also willing to shot from the edge of the box on a couple of occasion today which is good to see.

Spot on.

Work rate and movement was excellent. And he seems to have a very good understanding with Rooney too.

All that Welbeck needs to prove beyond any doubt that he's a better player than Sturridge is a bit of luck with injuries. Considering how disrupted this last couple of seasons have been he's done brilliantly. If he can stay fit for a decent run of games he'll go up another level.

Plus, Welbeck's a year younger.

The best part of his game yesterday was his link up play, especially one touch stuff. The move between him, nani and Rooney was brilliant.

glad to see his touch, which was quite poor a year or so go, improve.

That burst of pace on the right wing was great. A real "woahh, shit he's fast" moment. Definitely looking stronger on the ball, too. There's work to be done with Welbeck, but he's already easily good enough to be in our starting line up.

He's going to be amazing.

also if he improves his finishing ....already tremendous player. Hope he and Hernandez stay here for years to come!

I don't see why anyone believes Sturridge is in inferior to him. Those 2 are supremely talented young players. The English should be chuffed to have both.

I agree with this. I would be absolutely shocked if, injuries avoided, both don't go to the Euros. They are playing leading rolest for United and Chelsea respectively at the moment, surely that has to be enough to edge out the likes of Bobby Zamora?

Always happy to see Welbeck play for us. In my opinion, the bedding period is already coming to an end, and he's already starting to pull his weight and then some. Star!

Actually Zamora compliments those 2 and Rooney well. It's the likes of Crouch, Caroll, Bent and Defoe that I'd like to see edged out.

So would I. Those 4 would be my pick but I can't see Capello dropping Bent particularly given his goalscoring form for the national side.

Welbeck is fast becoming one of my favourite players at United now too. Helps he's a local lad who has his head screwed on it seems.

He is really selfish though.

They made that look soo easy and to also finish off with a killer ball from Nani (i believe) - excellent one touch play. He certainly tries to keep the ball moving on with his intricacy.

My opinion on Sturridge hasn't really changed over the last 18months or so.

No doubt he's a talented player but he plays for himself too much. I don't think he'll sustain a first team spot at Chelsea and will probably move on in a few years.

I see him having a good career at a good side but not a side of Chelsea's calibre.

Messi's one of the two most prolific goal-scorers on the planet. Do you think he's selfish?
Yes. To score as often as that you have to have some selfishness in your veins. This notion that its bad to have it is laughable. What is bad is excess amounts of it. Like that people like Robben possess for example. Or Ronaldo in his earlier United days.

Sturridge is on another level in terms of taking on shots from daft angles and turning back on himself endlessly. But he's going to be a brilliant player when he irons those flaws out of his game. Which he will.

My problem with Sturridge is that I'm not even sure he's aware of the options he ignores when he's taking on too much himself. He just looks like he plays with his head down all the time.

Sturridge just doesn't seem to have the vision and intelligence that, say, Welbeck and Rooney have. He's making more of what he's got at this point but I think Welbeck's ceiling is far higher. All of which means that - from an England perspective - I think they'd be much better served by letting the two of them form a partnership together.

His running reminds me of Paolo Wanchope. Long, gangly, with deceptive turn of pace. But I think Welbeck has more all-round game play.
