Obviously, he has more to his game than Hernandez. Very good at holding up the ball, has excellent vision and is very good at passing the ball. I wish him to stay free from injuries, he has a very good future at United.

different types of players Hernandez and Wellbeck.

Chicho is an out and out striker. give him the ball in the danger area and he will hit the target. very much like Dennis Law.

Wellbeck can hold up play, make the pass..and score.

It would be interesting to see both of them play together.

Not his beat game, but Welbeck leading the line lends our attack so much more fluidity and mobility as well as unpredictability.

He played a couple of neat passes, and should have done better with a couple of opportunities, but if we really want to watch us being fluid in attack - he's the man to partner Rooney, not Hernandez.

I didn't think he was THAT good today. I felt he was barely involved for the first 20 minutes or so, although after that he came into the game more and was fairly good (not to the extent I sense others thought he was though).

I definitely like him upfront though, and it should be him and Rooney in pretty much every match in the next few weeks.

I thought he was very good at pulling 2-3 wolves players away from the midfield, but apart from that he did lack other attributes. Still it worked today and worked well.

he has great ball skills, but could really stand to be a better finisher. chicharito, on the other hand, is a lethal finisher, but doesn't hold up the ball particularly well...

wrong decisions today and a bit unlucky.

looks class though.

22 some great years ahead for us and England :)

Nah, it was alot of wrong decision making today .... you make your own luck, though excellent decision making, as a striker.

No doubt hugely talented, but he now needs to take the last step up and quickly gain the maturity, like Hernandez showed last year. Its a real shame Owen is injured right now as he would be perfect for Welbeck to watch in practice and talk to about positioning, when to pass and when to strike.

I hope he has the ability to do so as the jury is still out on him for me.

He has only just turned 21 btw.

Yeah, we have to keep reminding ourselves of that. Its just that he and Kiko (only still 20) seem to have been around for a while as they got their Manchester United debuts very early in their career that we forget that they are still so young.

Even Hernandez has 2 years more experience than Welbeck as well as having played (well) in a world Cup finals before he joined us so was that much more developed and honed (as well as having come from a family with generations of top footballing traditions).

Patience and time needed for both.

Clever, quick and unpredictable. Reads Rooney and Nani giving a lot more fluidity up front in the process.

Do you think he will/needs to 'bulk up' abit more to fully realise his potential?

Given you see him up close in person at OT .... well from the TV, its clear that he is a strong lad, but I think he needs to bulk up more and become physically like like Sparky or Drogba, to add an extra dimension to his game.

Or do you see him developing more in the Owen/Defoe type striker?

Such a silky player. Wonderful to watch.

Lads gonna be a star.

Excellent half, he's gonna be a star in the future. Very exciting talent.

He's got a bit of everything about him.

He's physically impressive and has great pace.

Silky touch and the brain that enables him to link up with our midfield.

His workrate is outstanding too.

Has the makings of a star, still think productivity will be an issue for Danny and it will be interesting to see how he does in a game when we are really tested but that's all just ifs and maybes. Currently deserves to be first choice at the moment.

We look much better with Welbeck.

I'm glad we've got players like Hernández and Berbatov on the bench, but on current form, Welbeck is class above them.

He needs to keep in the goals to go to the Euros. His battle with Sturrdidge for a place in the England squad (probably) is a nice little subplot to the season.

Baffled as to how the jury could still be out with you. It's pretty clear the quality the lad has.

At the moment I would take both. It's a risk as they are both inexperienced and Rooney is suspended for the first two matches but I think they are both great.

Should play all 3.

Rooney Welbeck Sturridge

Wilshere Cleverley
Carrick

:drool::drool:

We might not win, but I'd guarantee it'd be a lot more entertaining than the dross we usually throw up.

Both deserve to go imo.

I approve this line up. Won't ever happen though.

Yeah I reckon both will go and so will Bent and Rooney being the obvious one. Probably won't take a fifth striker as Young and Walcott can be used there.

Bulking up will come naturally with age. Welbeck makes his runs from deep, making him a different player to Owen and Defoe. Injects a lot of pace up front and more importantly United don't seem outnumbered even with a two man midfield when Welbeck plays.

His running style and ball control is silky smooth and eerily similar to Louis Saha.

this. his tracking back was annoying fulham to the nth degree. He just continued to hound them. Should have scored today but a great performance

A superb player. Unlike Sturridge, he is intelligent and an excellent team player, always diligent with his defensive responsibilities.

There was a thread in newbies which player should wear number 7 once Owen leaves United and my pick was Welbeck. Great player and will only become better.

He's becoming a superb player. He's really got the lot for an attacker. I think he'll become a mainstay in the side.

Great player. Playing with real confidence and has cemented his place in the squad and the first team as well if I were the one to call the shots. We look a lot more lethal and fluent overall when hes playing instead of Hernandez. Hernandez still a great player to have coming off the bench or if we want to abuse a team's high defensive line.

We got Saha at his prime, Welbeck is still 20 and he has shown marvellous talent for a striker at such a young age...

Still though, he needs to put those 1-1 chances in, that poor chip today really let him down a bit after he did well all match...

Nevertheless, I expect huge things from him and hopefully he'll stay injury-free and develop into a wonderful player for us...
