It would have been given on FIFA. Not a pen though as far as am concerned.

For reasons that have never really been clear to me referees never call for penalties after the shot is gone, even if the defender nearly slices the attacker in two (see Ashley Cole on Hernandez at OT last season). Anywhere else on the pitch or if the player attempts a pass it's a foul, but in the box after a shot, never. It's an inconsistency in the rules, but it's so ingrained as a convention referees follow that it might as well be a rule in its own right, no point complaining about it.

Far too much of that in the modern game. Football is the only game I know where it's impossible to say what the rules are.

Instead of these high profile cases kicking it out of the game, they're bringing more of it in. Monkey see, monkey do, as it were.

Bet that guy wasn't expecting to be called out on the gesture like that. I'd expect him to get a ban from future games, that or he will be hired by chelsea

I'm a huge fan of Danny, I think he has all the tools to be a very good, if not top player for United. His overall game is very good.

His goal record for someone with as many appearances as him this season is not good enough though and if he does not improve this there are going to be question marks over his ability to make it with United.

He didn't have the best of games last night, needs to get more goals.

When I saw Solius comment I immediately went "wait, he played last night". He was invisible for the most part, I can't recall any real meaningful contributions at all. He's so wasted on the left wing.

At times made the game look easy and Chelsea coudn't get near him but at other times his final touch;letting the ball get away from for example was baffling.I think he just needs to start believing in his ability

His shots are just a bit shit at times too. He cuts inside and you expect a top corner bender but more often than not it'll go tamely into the keepers arms. Then he'll put his hands on his head and pull a face as if to say "That was close".

 So true

Just as a comparison, Welbeck got 9 league goals last year inhis breakthrough season, in Rooney's first season for us he had 12. Welbeck definitely needs to get more goals, and be more threatening, but it isn't the be all and end all as long as you're still contributing. Last night he was poor but usually he is a lot better.

Think you're reading too much into his body language.I thought he looked disappointed his shooting didn't test Cech more

Welbeck needs to add the end product to his game to get the recognition his talent deserves. He has such a smooth classy style and when on form and confident he will be devastating to opponents. The way he just glides past players at times effortlessly taking them out off the game is great to watch. Also the way he presses and closes down space is just another quality he brings to the team.

He is only 21 with so much improving to do ahead of him, he's a fantastic talent. The areas he needs to improve on is finishing and concentration. This would take his game to the next level.

He has all the tools to be a top top player but what he needs to improve, will only come with more game time, i've no doubt the club will be patient and the fans should too

he's got a great frame, but doesnt use it well enough yet, once he learns to use that physique it should be incredibly difficult to get the ball off him given his touch is so good, at the moment he seems off balance at times and lets players nick the ball away when he should be dominating them. Then he just needs to add some ruthlessness in front of goal, he loves to try to place it or subtely flick the ball in which is beautiful but sometimes he just needs to smash it goalwards.

Danny is an honest hard working lad which is why i've no doubts these things will come to him, in a couple of seasons time he'll be a monster and still only 23

I think he does use it quite well. For example when a player is chasing him he gets his body in the way of him and kind of uses the 'push' of the player bumping into the back of him to spring away. Kind of hard to describe but he does it sometimes.

Give him Javier's finishing and you've got a top striker closing in on world-class level. Why doesn't it work like that?

Some time ago, Danny had all the tools Chicha was missing and vice-versa. Now with the tremendous evolution of Hernandéz in his all aroudn game I think it's fair to say Danny is the 4th choice striker.

Patience Tomus....! thats all thats needed. People have in spades with some players.

I think so too, he will improve his finishing to at least good enough level. I really enjoy watching him, there is something exciting about him when he moves with the ball.

Danny Hernandéz would be a world class player, and also a beautiful latino black swagging male lesbian.

I can only dream.

I noticed that a few times against Chelsea too, very clever use of his body. Meant he effectively outran the pursuing player even though he was in possession, which can't be done with straight pace.

I've noticed this quite a bit. He's very agile and aware of where the opposing player is, meaning he's very hard to muscle off the ball.

The turn which got Mikel booked last night was

Even better also was andersons response to Mikel

Im sure that Danny Wellbeck will be the first to admit that he didnt have a good game last night. His shots were straight at the keeper and he drifted in and out of the game for long periods he was anonymous.

He was excellent at times in first half, but really poor second half tbf. Played good in defence, but overall, not great game for him.

I've always been agnostic on Danny, but I'm beginning to think he'll make it. He may feck up too often, but he sometimes looks a class above the players around him - even, occasionally, a bit Henriesque. He'll need to score more goals, but he's certainly worth an investment of time and patience.

He has looked a class below more times than a class above so far this season to be honest. With the consistent game time hes getting he should be improving more than he has the last year.

To be fair, it'd help if he was actually played as a striker from time to time.

He works so hard all game.

The amount of ground he covers is impressive. Sometimes you even think he's moving too fast then he pulls off a nice move to get the ball or beat his man.

He is really exciting to watch and a fantastic athlete.

I also think that its worrying that with the amount of goals we score that he is so seldom involved in them. There is really no excuse for him to have only 1 goal so far this season with the amount of matches hes played in our very attacking system. He doesnt have more than 2 assists either unless Im mistaken.

Im all for our young players getting game time and chances, but when someone isnt performing as well as they should, like Welbeck lately, they should be given a stint on the bench to make sure they dont get too complacent and sure of their inclusion in the first 11.

Honestly though, do you not think his inclusion is for the benefit of the team as a whole. Our attacking play looks different with him involved. More fluid, power pace etc. The fact he's played out of position pretty much all season doesnt seem to earn him any plaudits here. I must watch football differently to some.

Fergie obivously feels his inclusion benefits the system hes been utilising of late.

Im not up his arse either, if he actually started all of his games upfront the goal per games record would be an issue. Its just a bit fecking much to use that as a stick to beat him with when it simply doesnt apply here. It almost feel likes there's a few on here that are waiting for him to fail so they can say i told you so. Bit sad that really...

Agree with that completely.
