Name a better young english striker?

Disagree. There's losing the "odd player" and there's losing players who are integral to Fergie's long-term plans. I can accept refusing to allow unproven kids like Pogba and Fryers take the piss but any club with United's ambitions can't go down the same path as Arsenal when it comes to retaining your most talented young members of the first-team squad.

Anyway, when has Fergie ever lost a player like Welbeck because the club wouldn't negotiate a mutually acceptable contract? If that happens, we know that Glazernomics is really starting to bite.

It was only the other day that Fergie was commenting on the lack of goals that Welbeck scored last season. We don't know how important Fergie views Welbeck in his long term plans. It's still mostly about potential with Welbeck and I'd imagine our pay offer reflects that. If he wants to be paid already like a fully fledged first team star then he'll go the same way as Pogba and Fryers.

do you think he deserves less than a player who is 3 years older, that was utter shit last season, and has a touch of a rapist?

Welbeck's already ahead of Berbatov and Hernandez, when you're offering daft money to 19 and 29 year olds he's gonna get pissed off.

Why?

He's had nothing like as good a season as Hernandez did in his first with the club and as a slightly daft lad from Longsight he has considerably less commercial appeal than the Mexican.

Since when should a wage place "commercial appeal" ahead of talent? What an absurd idea. Anyway, have you forgotten where Old Trafford is located? How many Mexicans will be putting their name down for season tickets? How many fellow mancunians?

May have escaped your notice but there's a bit of a battle on now to attract the next generation of local fans.

He's already a much better player than Hernandez for one.

Whatever wage Jones was given when he signed a year ago, and before he was a full international, Welbeck should probably get at least as much.

Season tickets? The significance of season ticket income to the club has already decreased rapidly over the last five years and in five years time it will represent an absolute pittance of the club's total revenue.

Commercial appeal is very important whether you like it or not and it will be reflected in the Hernandez/Welbeck salary packages.

EDIT - There's no real battle to attract the next generation of ''local fans''. They're completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

You're not quite that far gone. See how quickly those commercial revenues grow without football success.

Alright, that's too far. Just shut up now.

You can see why GCHQ usually just sticks to talking about finances, he obviously has no clue about football.

This will be fun. No loyal locals in the stands or on the pitch. A chimera of a fanbase than will melt away as the marketing icons on the pitch don't win any games.

The one point I made about football was that Hernandez had a better/more effective season in 2010/11 than Welbeck did in 2011/12? Disagree?

It's not like we can suddenly go back on the offer we made to Hernandez just because he had a disappointing second season!

i'd dock 10k every time hernandez does his ridiculous blowjob posture prayer before a match and give the money to welbeck.

keep that shite in the dressing room or maybe after you stay onside and score. Even kaka isn't as ridiculous with his prayers.

We are football club, not just a commercial machine as you seem to be implying with every single post you make.

I sometimes think you sit at Old Trafford, face the directors box and sing songs about Gill, Arnold and whoever the feck else sits on the board with no bother or clue about what's actually going on with the football.

Its a bit weird seeing a so called football fan being such a fanboi of the business and the board members.

GCHQ has just lost the plot because Man Utd (it's official now lads) are capitalized at 20% less than Arsenal.

To be fair, they're not exactly comparable in terms of the class of shares on the market.

That is essentially what they'll be in 5-10 years time. I don't see any need to dress it up any differently unless we're worried about hurting people's feelings (which I'm not).

Thats complete rubbish. Just down to practical considerations the vast majority of people going to matches will be local.

You hugely underestimate the importance of the core support.

Why's it too far? It's true!

I'm a local fan by the way!

So you're a Mancunian who puts the [commercial] value of a Mexican 'asset' [balance sheet talk] above a born and bred Manc who lives and breaths the club and the city.

No pride in your city? Does money always take precedence over community spirit and local pride?

So what? I've made it perfectly clear why those local people going to Old Trafford will provide an ever decreasing amount of importance to the club's fortunes over the years to come. They're ''reasonably insignificant'' at this point in time. Fast forward five to ten years and yes, I'm afraid ''essentially meaningless'' would be an accurate description.

People always try to make me out to be the bad guy but I'm just telling it how it is!

Well they clearly are not. Match day revenue is currently a big part of Uniteds turnover.

Its around 30%. If these people didnt go United would be in serious trouble.

Not needed, to be honest.

Commercial revenue is partly dependent on attendance numbers, not that I think the significance of local support should be quantified in financial terms.

The local communities who founded, who built, supported and grew the club - who will be there long after your beloved Glazers have raped the club and took their profit - will be there long after picking up the fecking pieces.

You have some fecking nerve describing the loyal, time served, match going locals as 'essentially meaningless'.

Is that what football has now become? If so it's not the game I fell in love with and can see why a section of our fanbase feels totally detached from the club.

Disgusting disregard shown towards an integral part of the club.

You hugely underestimate the importance of the core support.

Where was the mention of the core support in the IPO?

The club has been pitched by the banks as anything from a global media company to a global consumer brand.

Now I love Manchester as a City but I don't think I'd find many locals who'd disagree that Manchester is completely meaningless in global terms.

For example, how much of a consideration do you think the core support was for Chevrolet when they made the decision to pay over half a billion dollars to become the club's shirt sponsors?
