He's in the last year of his contract. I just can't see that happening at all. Surely we'd want him to stay?

Looks like twitter rubbish to me. I think the rumours only surfaced after the traveling squad was announced.

Most probably. Like you said, he is in his last year, why would we send him somewhere else for a year?

The rumour is, 19.5m and Welbeck for a year long loan? Also the person tweeting it has announced he is not in the squad to travel to Germany.

The bit in bold is right. So did the person tweeting it tweet the Welbeck rumour before or after the squad was announced? Just looks like attention seeking to me. If there is any ounce of truth in this Welbeck will not want to sign a new contract.

The person tweeted this 12 minutes ago. I've just got in and don't know when the squad was announced mate?

So according to Twitter we are going to take a player in the last year of his contract and loan them a player in the last year of his contract. So Arsenal get money and a good young player who will be a free agent at the end of the season. If he does well they might get him for nowt. That looks a crazy idea.

For this to be even be remotely possible, then surly Danny would have had to have signed a new contract? But I can't see it tbh.

Fergie - "Sign here Danny boy, oh and by the way, we are using you in a deal to lure RvP to United."

Danny - "Er, ok boss."

The more I think about it, the more it seems complete bollocks!

That is as likely as Messi declaring himself a life long United fan, handing in a transfer request and parking outside OT til he can sign for free.

Probably like you said, someone trying to get attention.

Yep.

And if Danny had signed a new contract then it would have been announced by now.

I think the best idea is for us not to believe what is on Twitter. :) As you say the majority of it is rubbish.

Danny is probably injured, also the reason why he isn't in the English squad.

You had to think about it to come to that conclusion?

You will be right, wish the club would just say that to stop this stupid speculation.

If the club starts releasing statemens on every stupid twitter rumour, then they'll be working for a long time.

I don't mean about the twitter rumour, someone said that emerged after Danny was out of the squad to Germany. I mean United when they left him out of squad. It was just asking for some stupid twitter rumour to happen. If he has a knock, say he has. If they want to rest him say so. They have the game at Aberdeen next week and Sir Alex will take a good team to that.

If there's any truth in it, it might just be Arsenal trying their luck.

Joe Allen just got sold for 15m quid. You think the compensation package would even come close to what Welbeck is worth?

I think quite close to what you could reasonably expect to receive for him with one year left on his contract. My point is that there's less pressure to sort the situation out than there would usually be when a player enters the final year of his contract.

You'd want to get somewhere close to 25 million to let him go, and no club is going to pay that for him now. I think we're OK.

It would be a real blow if he left. Whatever small sum we could get as compensation wouldn't come close to replacing him. I hope nobody at the club shares your apparent lack of concern about failing to negotiate a new contract.

By the way a lot of our young players contracts have been allowed to run precariously close to the end I don't think so Pogue.

I'm expecting this one to go like Wes Brown's last contract with a lot of complaining about him wanting to be paid his full market value instead of giving United the youth player discount, but when it becomes apparent Danny isn't going to accept less they'll pay him. I'd think we could get at least £20m for him in the transfer market, at worse we sell him next year after he signs an extension.

I'm fairly confident they'll thrash something out. Just disagree that whatever fee a tribunal might come up with would compensate for his loss.

Moving back on topic. If this rumour was true (and I doubt it is) then that wouldn't be the end of the world, providing he's part of our plans for next season. He'd thrive on Arsenal's style of football and could help them take points off the likes of city and chelsea.

I just can't see us loaning a player of Danny's class again after coming back and putting in the season he just did after a loan spell. Especially not to a team who only finished one place behind us in the League. I would suspect that this is a load of bollocks on a quiet transfer day.

I'm sure the club has made him a good offer.

I've made this point before, but if you don't end up losing the odd player in this way then you aren't negotiating hard enough in the first place.

Disagree. There's losing the "odd player" and there's losing players who are integral to Fergie's long-term plans. I can accept refusing to allow unproven kids like Pogba and Fryers take the piss but any club with United's ambitions can't go down the same path as Arsenal when it comes to retaining your most talented young members of the first-team squad.

Anyway, when has Fergie ever lost a player like Welbeck because the club wouldn't negotiate a mutually acceptable contract? If that happens, we know that Glazernomics is really starting to bite.
