Danny Welbeck | 2011-14 Performances

If someone offered £30m tomorrow I'd turn it down. Obviously.

Seems just like yesterday when he scored THAT goal in his debut! He's come along brilliantly

Danny is going to be a fantastic player but he needs to add killer instinct to his game. I read Andy Cole saying that he needs to decide whether he wants to be a great goalscorer or the scorer of great goals but I don't think it needs to be so open or shut. Welbeck should be looking to Thierry Henry as inspiration - there are a lot of similarities. I think we've got a potential wordie on our hands, providing he sticks the ball in the net more regularly.

Steady on - Henry is one of the finest forwards of modern times, faster than Welbeck for me and more naturally gifted, the best PL player other than Ronaldo in terms of ability and performance.

Welbeck looks a talented boy - will he be a top player, maybe, but he's got a long way to go and I'm not sure comparing him to one of the best forwards ever is helpful.

I'd settle for seeing him improve again his year, get a few mor goals and look a bit tidier with his touch which can be heavy at times.

Best young striker in the premiership.

20 goals would be more than fine, it would be absolutely orgasmic.

Can't wait to see how big his role will be this season, hopefully very.

20 goals as our main striker i would expect. But will he be our main

At the same age as Danny, wasn't Henry pretty raw too?

Comparing Welbeck to Henry is the kind of stuff that will get posted in 'RAWK goes into meltdown' equivalents on rival forums.

No just no.

I think I did the comparison a while back, from a raw stats perspective there's not alot in it, all be it a ridiculous comparsion between a striker in the premiership and winger in a shit french league.

He's nothing like Henry as a player though, so why people bring him up is kinda weird. As has been stated loads of times not everyone bursts on to the scene at 18-20 a monster of a player, he's playing first team football at United, by most people standard that's pretty awesome.

It's a silly comparison. Rooney himself isn't close to Henry for me. I don't see what we've seen so far in Welbeck to suggest he'll get there. Rooney was definitely miles ahead of him at the same age. If he does I'll be delighted for him and the club. But also hugely albiet pleasantly surprised.

He'll go on to become a better player then Rooney.

Big statement, I know, but I just really believe in him. I think he's just got that touch of genius about him.

I think you are going to be disappointed, Rooney is an excellent player and was much better at the same age. Welbeck is very good but its a huge ask.

Don't have the words...

Don't know if this should be looked into more, but Berba's training in the number 9 shirt, I know most of the lads just wear what ever number, but to be wearing his squad number from last year, might be keeping.

I don't see it. He's going to be a very good player for us, but I don't see him going on and being a truly world class player like you could argue Rooney is. I do hold very high hopes for Welbeck though nevertheless.

DANNY WELBECK is still in dispute with Manchester United over a new contract.
The striker, 21, is in the last year of his current deal but his advisors and club bosses are at loggerheads over the terms of a new four-year agreement.

Welbeck is on £15,000 a week and his camp are after £60,000 a week before bonuses.

But the club is understood to be offering a £40,000 basic wage, rising to £60,000 a week based on games played.

Welbeck is represented mainly by his elder brother Chris, who believes the player deserves what they are asking for after hitting 12 goals in 38 games last term before a strong display with England at Euro 2012.

His winner in the group game against Sweden, a volley with his right instep whilst facing away from goal, was one of the goals of the tournament.

But United are still not ready to budge and the failure to find a middle ground is worrying, particularly as they have lost two promising 19-year-olds since the end of last season.

Midfielder Paul Pogba went to Juventus on a £30,000-a-week deal — double the money United were offering — after his contract ran out.

Now defender Ezekiel Fryers has followed him out the door.

He also failed to agree terms on a new deal and left as a free agent to join Tottenham, who are set to pay United £4million in compensation.

He's almost 22, you gotta look at how much he'll be earning in 5-7 years too!
Plus, it's not fair on say, Evans, if Welbeck is earning as much as him, is it? Evans is far more closer to being the finished product, and produced much better performances as a defender than Welbeck as a striker. Welbeck missed loads of opportunities, and despite him having a wide array of skills, he can't finish like that this season. The likely formation switch to 4231 for a lot of games next season will likely mean he gets lesser starts next season; hence the '60k when you play' in his contract. If Nani, an established first team player whose one of our best players and is nearing his peak years was only offered 90k, i don't see how welbeck's worth the 60k! That's how MUFC has to think when handing out contracts, as well.

Plus, our wages have gone up significantly and we can't offer all of our players vastly improved contracts, whilst we're floating shares to help keep the debt down! If you are good enough to be at Man Utd, the money will follow you. Don't have to chase it. 45-50k would be fair, for where he's at right now imo.

It's a bit worrying this. Particularly since he is in last year of contract.

Losing Welbeck would leave a serious dent in our credibility especially after we lost three promising kids such as Pogba, Morrison and Fryers (ok I know about Morrison's off the field problems but that doesn't really matter). He's got to sign a new contract with us.

If Neil Custis wrote a story linking us to signing someone, making claims without even a hint of a quote, it would quite rightly be dismissed as bullshit.

Neil Custis writes a story about one of our players demanding more money and being 'at loggerheads' with the club, with no hint of a quote, and people worry about it.

Welbeck is going nowhere.

Tbh, Chelsea would offer Danny much more money. I'd be hugely surprised if he left United for more money though. He would leave us only if he couldn't establish himself as a regular starter.

Is this true, are we turning into Arsenal where our best players contracts are being run down...

Journalists should be paying the club for the fact that we now dont sort out contracts until they are in their final year. It is like a bottomless well of stories for them. I bet they have story templates saved on their desktops, all they have to do is fill in the name and a few numbers for the estimated values and hey presto, you have a nice filler sports story in around 5 minutes.
