Anyway, I love Welbeck - so on topic, I reckon the run in the international side will be a big boost to his confidence for next season. Have Welbeck and Hernandez played much together as a front two?

Not at a striking pair, I don't think. They played together in the Sunderland home game last season where Rooney played in central midfield, but Welbeck was on the left of a strange formation, maybe a 433, maybe it was an unbalanced 4231 where we went down the right constantly. The tactics were about getting Nani the ball down the right, there wasn't much of the two man game between Welbeck and Chicharito, though I thought Welbeck looked quite good in that game on the left. The 'average position' of players in that game looked odd:

That whole discussion has been bizarre. If he wasn't intending to score, what was he trying to do - put it out for a goal kick, or pass it to a team mate, or do an air shot?

There really shouldn't have been any doubt over that (as surf says).

The rest of the questions:

Q: Did you copy Drogba's celebration and do you style your game on him?
A: no, but Jordan copied mine haha... And there are a number of strikers 2 learn from in the prem and Drogba is a good example.

Q: under roy hodgson england are unbeaten, how long do think we will go?
A: hopefully for the rest of this tournament! Haha

Q: How much did your time at Sunderland help you develop as a player?
A: it was a pivotal part of my career and it has helped me massively

Q: Is your dad really a bomb disposal expert called Stan, or is that just a joke?!
A: no he is not called stan! But good joke mate

Q: How does it feel to be in your first proper England tournament. What do you do during you spare time at the Euros ?
A: obviously very privileged to take part in a major tournament. Spare time spent chilling out and relaxing with the boys

Q: Have you considered using Andy Carroll's hair product?
A: no thanks.. But I may try it one day

Q: What team did you support when you was a kid?
A: Manchester united. Red runs in my veins Michael!

Q: What did you have for dinner tonight?
A: pasta bolognese and chicken.. There's usually a decent variety 2 choose from

Q: Apart from Wayne Rooney, which striker has helped you the most in your career?
A: asamoah gyan helped me through my time at Sunderland.

Q: would you take a penalty if it came to it?
A: hopefully we round the game up before then, but yes I would take 1

Q: Who is the greatest player you have ever played with?
A: that would be a tough choice but I'd say @Cristiano

Q: Did you hear us England fans vs Ukraine chanting "Let's all do the Welbeck", doing your hand pointing celebration?!
A: yes I did when I was on the bench I heard it... Joe hart done it in training 2day

Q: What's your favourite TV show?
A: entourage box sets are good.. Geordie shore is the one that I look 4ward to lol

Q: Why do you and Wayne Rooney have such a good partnership together?
A: we've been training with each other a couple years now, and he's a really good player to work off

Q: danny whats the mood like ahead of sunday in the camp?
A: everyone is relaxed but focused at the same time and ready to take on the Italians

 brilliant, he may has well have just said "of course I did you dick".

I dunno, pasta bolognese & chicken sounds alright. At least he didn't spell it p4sta b010gnese & ch1ck3n.

The most impressive thing about Welbeck is his build-up and link-up play.
So many young strikers are utterly clueless outside of the box. Welbeck is miles ahead of Chicharito and Mecheda.

Welbeck just needs to improve his poaching positioning and improve on his finishing and basically he can be a Saha type of striker hopefully without the injuries.

To Be fair, it is Twatter, you have that character limit to contend with and then you get locked into the txt speak mode.

Unlucky to come off. I thought he was doing really well. Seems like Woy doing his customary same subs as always routine

He won almost every header and was good defensively. Unlucky that he didn't get great service but generally one of our better players

Taking him off killed us. He was doing a very good job on Pirlo in the first half, even if Shearer was a fecking retard and didn't pick that up. Obviously, he's a world class midfielder and can still do good things without time and space and there were flashes in the first half, but when Welbeck came off Pirlo had all the space in the world to dictate play and it became ridiculously one-sided.

What the feck?

Was good? What did Daniel do this tournament? He isn't the player for england that he is for United. I've seen the lad walk 6 yards away from Pirlo at the 9th minute of the game. Very disappointing for a 21 year old who has been given a high honor like playing for his national team. The couple of times that he actually made the effort to pressure their players Italy lost possession. Rooney and this lad were fecking walking. feck sake.

He wasn't great tonight. He probably should've been left on as Rooney was worse, but it didn't matter as he was poor anyway.

He is such a good player for United. Such a joy to just see him put an effort on the pitch. Why i am let down is probably because I looked forward to him putting a similar effort for his national team.

All he needs to do is put some fecking effort. He was ready when this tournament started.

Can't believe some people seem to think defending and running about are the same thing.. Carroll was running about (because he was 15 yards away from where he should have been) when he came on and look what happened. Pirlo made him look like a clown.

Welbeck was blocking Pirlo's passing options and picking times to chase him down, that is more effective than the headless chicken routine.

I said to my Dad when Welbeck went off that Pirlo would dominate the game far more than he had been doing because he'd have more space to dictate play and more passing options.

The lad is 21 years old. He's only come off his first proper season in the PL, in our first team. This was his first tournament with the national side, in which he scored his first goal for his country.

All things considering, I think he did alright. I don't think you can fault the lad for effort. He always tries.

England got worse when he went off and Carroll came on.

Certainly not Pirlo as we all know the class on that man but everyone else.. baah.. I will rest my case for the night. Just disappointed with one of my favourite players of the season is all.

Fair play but I can't help but be disappointed for him :(

No-one was closing down, looked more like an instruction than a decision on Welbeck's part.

Watching him in this England side reminded me a lot of the U21 euros, a very thankless task for him up front that didn't suit his game at all. Still, scored a goal he can be very proud of.

He looks classy, but doesn't contribute enough.

That is exactly the point that I have been trying to make about him in the past few weeks. He just doesn't do enough and I feel that when he plays for United too. In the next few years he has to do more because he doesn't score or create enough to justify his limited participation in general play. I am also unsure if he has the required attributes to significantly improve these areas, he is not quick or mobile enough and his finishing is mediocre but more crucially he just doesn't get enough shots on goal in the first place.
