Be great to see an animation of Danny's goal the other day along side one of Nani's against Bayern in the CL a couple of years back.

That goal should have been the one that settled the tie, and should have been the most important goal Nani scored (aside from his penalty in the 2008 final, if that counts as a goal).

A shame it was wasted and will probably be forgotten.

What an ungrateful cnut not celebrating with Valencia. Arrogant.

Didn't Ronaldo have one of these ? Or was it a backheel ?

He scored an outrageous backheel for Madrid this season.

He once put it in with his cock for us did he not?

He has grown up so much. It was only recently that i watched a clip of him with Keane and Ruud mentoring a bunch of 10-11 year old kids in training, Danny was part of that group. Amazing

but am I the only one getting worried about the massive hype building around him? Shades of Tom Cleverley at the beginning of last season.

I have to agree. People are going waaaaayyy over the top with him right now. You'd think he's a shoo in for the Ballon D'or.

Give him his time to develop.

Agreed. It is absurd and typically English, he has a long long way to go.

The hype is back for English football, Rooney is God and Welbeck is Jesus, no doubt this means that we are going to get knocked after an abject performance tonight.

I don't see anyone doing anything like that. I see a lot of people happy a pure bred youngster is representing England and looking very promising.

The lads persona and demeanour don't really lend itself to him getting carried away. I wouldn't worry about the fans.

In terms of past players you'd have to say Henry but am I the only one getting worried about the massive hype building around him? Shades of Tom Cleverley at the beginning of last season.

Next thing we'll be calling him fat and taking the piss out of his girlfriend.

I dont remember Henry at 21 but it seems Welbeck is not 1) confident enough to do things Henry consistently did, 2) mature enough to finish easy chances/ go for the straight option rather than the fancier one.

He could be a player similar to Henry. What a treat that would be.

I remember Henry at 21, and he wasn't at Welbeck's level.

Not overhyping him, just saying it as it is.

People need to calm down. He will have his up and downs and it is only a matter of time before he will be called shit.
He is having a mixed tournament so far, but the potential is clearly there

well said, and thank you for saying it.

Correct. Opinions change. Mad, eh?

Seems a tad fast though, right? Are you talking simply about Caf member/United fan perception or the general football following public in England due to his run at the Euros with England? Wouldn't be surprised with the latter given it takes the smallest thing to trigger the biggest of hype regarding anything related to the English national team.

I'm only talking about the opinions expressed in this thread. They've gone from one extreme to another. Like I said, it's exactly what happened with Cleverley. Although Cleverley generated three extremes of opinion in a single season. From not good enough to the new Messiah (with a LOT of caftards claiming he should start ahead of Carrick) to a fat self-publicising crock who won't make any useful contribution next season.

From what little I've heard from non-caftard football fans Welbeck is still under-rated by the public at large.

At least we acknowledge he needs to improve his finishing before reaching the Messiah status. Cleverley was already the Messiah before he became a fat slut-shagging snob.

Nonsense, that is not how it is.

At 21 Henry was the French Young Footballer of year, in an era when the French national team were on the cusp of becoming one of the greatest international teams ever. He also scored a record amount of goals for Monaco in the Champions League as they reached the semi finals of the competition. At 21 Henry was one of the very best young players in the world.

That said, the comparison at the same age is irrelevant, in my opinion Welbeck lacks the skill set to ever become as good as Henry.

This hype is becoming ridiculous.

At least we acknowledge he needs to improve his finishing before reaching the Messiah status.

He needs to improve more than his finishing, did he even have an attempt at goal last night? To me he looks to passive and he doesn't seem to find space very well. I don't know what his remit from Roy was but surely his performance last night should have brought some CAFtards back within a glimpse of reality.
