Thing thing with him is as soon as he does something ridiculously good, like that first touch, he follows it up with something abysmal. He will of course get better at decision making the more experience he gets

Seem to remember him doing a decent through ball to Rooney, who messed a great chance with a heavy first touch, in that play.

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck agrees five-year contract deal
The 21-year-old is happy to commit his long-term future at Old Trafford and will put pen to paper on a £45,000-a-week contract at the end of the season which will treble his salary.

Danny Welbeck will sign a five-year contract with Manchester United at the end of the season after finally agreeing terms with the club over a new deal, Goal.com has learned.

The 21-year-old has agreed to a deal worth around £45,000-a-week to treble his current salary and represent his value to Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad after breaking into the side this season.

Basic terms were agreed in principle in November but United and Welbeck’s agent spent several months wrangling over further rises and bonuses before coming to an agreement.

The England international, whose existing deal expires next summer, has told team-mates that he his happy to commit his future to the club while United were keen to agree a deal before the player set off for Euro 2012.

Welbeck, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season and has jumped ahead of Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez as the first-choice strike partner for Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford.

United were eager to tie Welbeck down to a long contract to ensure there are no doubts over his future, especially with Berbatov and Michael Owen expected to depart in the summer.

Ferguson has huge faith in the Manchester-born forward’s talent and believes the youngster is constantly improving as he develops physically.

"We were always aware of Danny Welbeck's ability," said the United manager earlier this year. "The issue with him now is addressing the physical side.

“Our stats show there's still a bit to do before he becomes a complete adult.

"He has a good attitude, although he should have, he's a young player with an opportunity at Manchester United.

“That's one of the reasons you pick these players, because they show their temperament as they come through the youth programmes and the reserves.”

Good news, he deserves to be on a "first team contract" now. I reckon we'll see a massive progress from him next season.

He's looking silky on the ball today, working hard and great feet.

When he's running he's very hard to nudge, but if he's relatively stationary he doesn't get his stance wide so he's easier to knock off. I think that's a lot to do with his style, he's a finesse player and looks to make a lot of subtle flicks and such, he's not a power player stylistically.

That SAF is playing him over Chicharito and Berbatov is really some compliment.

I really really REALLY hope he goes to the Euro's.
For his confidence's sake.

So many non United supporting fans write him off and say he's shite but the kid is immensely talented. He'll only grow with some good international experience.

He will. Only really Rooney is a better English striker at the moment

Crouch deserves a crack and an in form Defoe or Bent you could argue has more experience.
But the sheer potential in Welbeck and his understanding with Rooney is a hugely underrated asset that could be unearthed for England. How long has it been since playing for England has been a boon on the players rather than a bit of a waste of time.

I thought he was really poor in the first half and wouldn't have minded him going off for Hernandez, but what a second half he's had. Brilliant.

While I can just about muster some positivity, I think Welbeck showed exceptional ability for his goal today (as well as some of his linkup and workrate).

Its something that I feel Rooney isnt the best at sometimes, the way Welbeck created the space to get his shot away for his goal and didnt just hit it and hope its not blocked. I know it wasnt good defending, but you need to give a defender something to react badly to and Welbeck sold him a great dummy to create the space and punished Everton for it with a top quality finish

Sturridge is pretty greedy and can't play on the shoulder of the striker. If England are going to play 4-3-3 then he could play up on the right or left.

Other than that Danny's form has had a better base all season. Sturridge has been through a horrible patch lately. (and I like DS as well).

How is he not? Explain. He's got much better technique on the ball than Welbeck and has had a better goalscoring rate than him in the Premier League by a fair distance.

One is starting regularly for United, other is on the bench these days for Chelsea. Take a clue from that and if you can't then you're hopeless.

I disagree. He's probably a better dribbler but he's far too selfish and plays with his head down. Welbeck is capable of seeing and executing a killer pass.

Sturridge reminds me of Defoe.

Great second half nevertheless from Danny. The performance from him, Rooney and Nani would have deserved a win

What? Whether they're playing or not means absolutely nothing. Welbeck generally plays because he fits into our team well, while Sturridge's lack of football has often been down to Torres and Drogba wrongfully being picked based on reputation.

Why don't you judge them on actual ability as opposed to other factors. Sturridge has only played a few less games in the league than Welbeck this season as well.

Disappointed for him that the defence collapsed. Completely taken the gloss off probably his best performance in a United shirt.

That's exactly what I was thinking, he was brilliant in the second half but that will all be forgotten in the aftermath of the collapse.

Today I witnessed something I had never even considered, (well asides from a 4-4 result) and that is the beauty of Nani & Welbeck combining, they're definitely on the same page, I really can't wait to watch them both play together more, beautiful stuff.

And also why he should be seen as a better striking option than Sturridge. His linkup play is ahead of many players of a similar level and age group when it comes to strikers. That and his work rate are why Rooney suggested him for united's player of the season. I think thats over the top, but I think it says something about how much Rooney appreciates having a player doing that for him

Sturridge is a flash bastard, not a great footballer. Did you watch the u21s over the summer? Who looked the better player? Sturridge was dribbling and looking great because he was trying to do it all on his own, but who was actually having an impact on games linking up play and scoring goals? Welbeck.

If you like selfish pricks who occasionally have moments of magic, you'll like Sturridge. Welbeck is the better player.
