Welbeck has 9 goals in 17 PL appearances this season. Negredo has 9 in 24. Yet one is called the donkey and other is called the beast by most.

Striker conversion rates at #mufc: Rooney 13%, Hernandez 15%, Van Persie 21%, Welbeck 24%.

Danny's having a very good season. Improving all the time. We've got a cracking young striker on our hands.

I don't want to get into Sturridge vs Welbeck comparisons because it's pointless but it does look like he suffers from the same problem as the other Daniel at Chelsea. They were throwing him as the wide / wing player and he looked immensely shit, always taking wrong decisions and basically crumbled when he was about to score a goal as a winger yet once he was moved to central striker position he's doing fantastic job for Liverpool. Same goes for Danny, just bad on the wing but scoring like crazy when in the #9.

He's done very well when RVP and Rooney were injured, gave us couple of points and yesterday he proved that he's still in form if he's played in the right position.

I understand it perfectly, it is just incorrect to assume that it is a valid question. Eggs existed long before chickens.

Ah, and all those hours wasted on philosophical debate! If only you could have been there to save everyone the time and the effort!

Fair comparison, that. Young player plays in his best position and plays well, shocker. As Pogue rightly says, we've got a cracking young striker on our hands.

I think he is deliberately avoiding the clear original implication that it is a chicken egg that is meant. It allows him to make a sound but trivial evolutionary point.

very nicely taken goal. Missed the game, but it is always good to see him get on the scoresheet.

He's had a good season. His goal was well-taken against West Brom. I thought the pass from Rooney was under-hit at first, but the replays proved me wrong.

He's gone from a 10% chance conversion rate (last season) to a 24% this season and has generally been very good as a centre-forward. His finishing has improved, but that doesn't mean he's not had moments where he's lacked composure. He's missed some big chances against Swansea, Chelsea, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Everton.

When Welbeck was scoring consistently in December, I said that we didn't miss Van Persie apart from his excellent hold-up play. Van Persie hasn't done much since his return from injury IMO. It's been a while since he has looked "hungry", which isn't my body language expert opinion. It's more to do with the lack of sharpness in his play this season. I'm also starting to wonder how much Moyes is influencing Van Persie. Is it the simple case of Van Persie being utilised more as a classic #9? Whenever Welbeck plays as a #9, he offers us more in the build-up phase and averages more passes. Is that down to the player? Manager? It's interesting to see the differences, nonetheless.

Important Update

Further to the megathreads announcement, this megathread has been renamed and should be confined to discussing Danny Welbeck's performances this season. For any other discussions about Danny Welbeck, please bump or create separate threads.

Thanks!

His technique, close control in tight space is really something else. So glad we have him.

He's actually making runs in behind. He's physically a brute as well, would have really done well against Liverpool where Januzaj just got bullied.

He has the technicality of a Spainard that it is hard to believe he is English. Every time the ball comes to him, he controls it effortlessly and continues our attacking momentum barely making any rash judgement. Great display from him in the first half and easily amongst our best player so far.

That moment he controlled the long ball dead in the first half was great.

Fantastic today. It's a mystery why he hasn't been playing more often.

Its not just pace with him as well. Always seem to have an extra touch to wiggle away. Welbeck Youtube highlight videos will have loads of clips of him from this game.

Classy performance but does he ever not limp off these days? I'm starting to think those knees of his will never allow him long, injury-free spells.

did very well tonight 8/10 and rightfully getting rave reviews from the TV pundits

Absolutely fantastic, I've been critical of him in the past as a striker but I think he's one of our best options out wide right now. Strength, pace and skill

Nice to see the Sky team talking at length about his importance. As talented as Rooney-RVP-Mata is as a front 3, there is no pace there. Danny gives us a cutting edge. He should start every game from now on.

Very good player, just can't finish for shit, although he's improved in that respect this season.
