There is four players that really stand out for the four attacking spots, and they are all much better than the options (everyone knows who they are). He should not be close to a starting spot if they are all fresh and fit to play. But, I think he, Kagawa and Chica are good options.

He is not close to being as talented as some want him to be (his age is against him in developing some areas of his game), and he is not as bad as some make out. He will never be good enough to be in our best eleven, but he is local and will be a good squad player for years to come.

Welbeck has done more than you could ask for as a backup to RVP, he's having an excellent season. He's damn near scored a goal a game when playing up front for fecks sake.

He should continue in that role and be slowly phased in as our long term number 9 over the next couple of seasons as RVP ages. He clearly has the talent (he's started 30 pl games up front and has scored 17 goals from that position) and he's United through and through. If he can't make it long term in our first 11 then we may as well shut the academy down.

Well for one he's definitely a striker. He's pretty terrible on the wing for me, and he's not very good behind the striker.

In terms of end product he's useless out wide, at least the way we use him. He barely ever even shoots, and have you ever seen him even attempt a cross? He's definitely a CF.

Exactly. He stood in for RVP and finally added what everyone was complaining about to his game - goals.

At the moment he's very much a squad player. Will he ever be good enough to start? He did great recently while RVP was injured, and who knows, when RVP starts to decline in a couple of seasons, Welbeck might be improved - he's 23. But to suggest getting rid of him is fecking insane, and does my head in.

Will be very interesting to see him in combination with Mata, he's always seemed to link well with Kagawa. I think also if we're looking to play with narrower wingers in the Reus mould, he would benefit from that as well.

I expect him to feature against Stoke but I think that if everyone stays fit, it could be the last time we see him for a few weeks.

Had a bad game give it a rest FFS, problems are deeper than just Welbeck.

"But he's playing on the wing! Putting him as a 9 is automatically gonna cure his main weakness!"

Rubbish. A professional footballer who cannpt seem to grasp the concept of the ball coming to him. He is fecking useless.
But...he's a Manchester lad!

He was fecking useless today. Why we didnt bring on Fletcher and keep Rooney playing up the pitch, I will never understand.

Welbeck to me, is what Gibson was to us a few years ago. Good enough for a mid table team, not good enough to play regularly for us. And certainly not someone we should rely on to turn games for us.

His first touch was garbage and his anticipation was even worse. There is only so much you can do with pace.

Horrendous performance today. But of course, you aren't really allowed up criticise Welbeck on here.

He was really poor today. The moment where Mata put through a nice ball to him but Welbeck fluffed it up summed his game up. No awareness and a poor touch, taking too long to react. When he's good he can show signs of becoming a top talent, but it's no wonder opposition fans think he's awful after a game like today.

He embodies perfectly as to why I feared that Mata could struggle here. He has no clue whatsoever when or where to run in behind defences. His anticipation and football brain is just lacking massively. Add to that a very inconsistent first touch and you have a player that is very very hard to put goals on a plate for.

He's fecking brutal, we know this. Instantly falls over every single time when near the ball in the box, without fail. Needs shipping out in the summer.

Very poor performance from him, but some of you are acting like he's just murdered your pets.

Up there with Bebe's debut as one of the worst showings in modern United history.

I can't think of a positive thing he did. Having him in the box was like giving Stoke another defender. Couldn't control, couldn't pass, didn't bother to shoot.

He's finished well this season and been economic about it not needing too many chances to score the goals he has. However the rest of his game is at least a level below what it had been previously. His linkup play has been average and at times his touch has been diabolical. He's pretty much gone the opposite way of Hernandez, improving his killer instinct in front of goal but at the cost of good buildup play

Appeared to be not up to the pace of game when he come on. I'm a fan but cannot defend that performance. He look laboured and his first touch deserted him at critical times. He had a poor game but I'm sure he will bounce back.

8 goals in 10 appearances starting up front in the PL suggests not. I'm sure he will not be going anywhere this summer.

He's a much better squad player than Gibson ever was with far better abilities. However, at this stage he isn't good enough to start games for us on a regular basis - he could be, and is from time to time, but not consistently. He has played some very good matches lately, and I'm sure you weren't making the same arguments back then. Granted, he was awful today though. Most of the time I wondered if he was on the pitch, and when I saw him, he was useless - probably a 2-3 out of 10 performance.

I like the boy but why? We have Rooney fit and he was actually on the field. We even have Mata now who is better in that part of the pitch. There was no need for him.

He's 23. He's not exactly old, but he's surely past the age of "yung n lernin"
