He's just class. The type of player you'd expect to see in top team. His excellent partnership with Rooney means that there'll be something more to look forward to on this coming WC.

Well, my point was that a spell of decent games from Welbeck doesn't change the fact that he's been very average for a long time. He's high on confidence right now and it shows, but like with Moyes, until I see some lasting improvement I'll remain skeptical. And yes, I'm a negative nancy.

Welbeck's been average for a long time because he has been played on the wings. He's had some good games on the left, but he doesn't look comfortable and doesn't provide the consistency you would want out of someone playing in this position. This, however, has very little to do with his skill set. Two things that are lacking are composure and finishing, but that's it. His hold-up play, link-up play, passing, dribbling and touch are all at a very good level. You don't play like he did against Real Madrid with an average skill set - that performance highlighted his strengths pretty well. He's not an average player and this run of games as a centre-forward is doing him well. He never looked fit enough to play against Tottenham/Everton; in contrast, his performances against Aston Villa, West Ham, and Hull have been at a high level.

Fair enough. I still have my doubts about him though.

How's he been? Late in, was the goal good?

He's a right pain in the arse to play against when he's in form. Great at holding the ball, great linkup and awareness.

Improved so much since RVP has been out. Showing more of the promise he showed in the first game of the season.

I must be apart from the lucky goal, neither Welbeck or any United player have done much. Evans and Vidic have been by far your best players.

He closed down the player and forced the issue. You make your own luck and he rounded the keeper well.

He's held the ball up- bringing others into play, ran at players, pressed the ball, made numerous interceptions, cleared the ball when in his own box and scored. what the hell do you want from a striker?

It wasn't lucky, he consistently makes himself a pain in his challenges at the front and chases down and wins loose balls. Just because the halfwit commentator kept saying he got lucky doesn't make it so.

Even with just 45 minutes on the field, easily our best player today, and I think this will win him our player of the month too.

Yeah, he didn't do anything except raising our performance by at least 30-40%.

He changed the game today. Finally seeing a run of games where he's affecting play in the final 3rd as well as contributing defensively.

Back to being England's pele.. but no seriously good to watch him play like this. He's been immense.

Our attack was poor until he came on. He just helped to link midfield and attack well enough for us to pose a threat. That ability to hold up the ball, turn and carry it is simple yet it makes such a difference to our play.

Terrific impact and such a crucial goal. We really didn't look like scoring today.

Superb that Danny stepped it up when we needed it the most ( Rooney and Robin out ), he was so damn happy when he scored and so am I for him right now.

Got huge hearth for the club this lad.

The incentive of it being a world cup year and Sturridge performing at Liverpool may have motivated him too.

But whatever it is...he's becoming a very important player. Not many of our players press and hassle opponents as much as Welbeck, such a simple thing can make a huge difference.

You know what was great, I actually expected him to score as he went through on goal. And I bet he did, too. It's a nice feeling.
