Happy for him today but more so for the club. Both goals were very Inzaghi-esque - right place, right time. He's destroying Villa with his pace, Adnan and Rafael are as well. He'll probably go on another spell of no goals but I'd happily eat some crow if suddenly starts scoring like a Darren Bent in days gone by.

Because I got directly mentioned during a match?

Well, you were browsing the Welbeck thread during the match

If you stopped biting people would stop baiting you.

Maybe you actually like the whole merry-go-round.

Oh, and he scored twice. He's happy, I'm happy. It's good for Manchester United therefore it's good for me. Now he needs to push on and turn these performances (This match and Swansea away) into consistent showings.

We see some of our best football when he's up top, such a difference from him out wide.

It's crazy how much of a divisive figure Welbeck is, on here. Some of his staunch supporters feel the need to vastly overrate him and his critics feel the need to slate him at any given opportunity. I appreciate the very few balanced posts about him that I read.

Good number 9 performance so far. Has come short to hold it up, and has pissed on them when played in behind. Most importantly for him he's looked like he's dying to get a goal at any costs. Unlucky not to have a hat trick with the shot that just missed.

Playing great today. Can't help but feel this is just one of his 4-5 great games a year though, and he'll go back to being a bit useless next game. Hope he proves me wrong though.

Its called being played out of position.

Yeah, there's been none of his usual hesitating on the ball, doing 3-4 little pointless touches before giving it back. He's looking decisive today which is good to see.

He has a real chance of making a strong claim to be a regular as a striker with RVP and Hernandez out. I so desperately want him to be a success here.

Even as a striker he's played there quite a few times since the opening day and been crap most of those times, whether it be because of a lack of confidence or whatever else.

Surprise, surprise, he is playing well when he is playing in his favourite position.

So glad for him, two poachers goals, and excellent all-round play.

Actually gets a chance to play up front for once, and produces. Always get annoyed when people talk about his totals.

A nice double after the Swansea double.

If he could get a hattrick that'd be huge for confidence.

Great to see him doing well. Would love him to get a hatty, performance deserves it.

We can't really blame Welbeck for not being consistent so far this season. He's been superb all round today.

No he hasn't.
From memory, recently he played most of the game against spurs up front and half against Everton, and when he got subbed on against Cardiff. All awful games (apart from Cardiff which he didn't have much time to make an impact). All I'm saying is that it's not like he playes brilliantly whenever he's up front, because he doesn't. He's still really inconsistent. You don't get gifted the striker spot at united, and he's got to perform elsewhere because he won't get in ahead of Rooney or van Persie.

Great to see, need him to push on while RVP is out. His disastrous finishing recently is too fresh in the mind to think that this is a turning point though.

This is one of the best games I've seen him play in an offensive sense. He's played like a proper no. 9. Held up the ball really well, closed down all over the pitch, linked players, finishing has been great, shown a bit of nastiness. He's been a right pain in the arse to play against.

Hope he keeps it up.

Nice to see the link up between Tom and Danny, was a feature when we started very fluently a couple of seasons back.

Those 3 and a half games have become the most famous in the club's history. Unless one scores and the other dominates central midfield consistently for us they can not be any more than bit part players.

It got to the point where the Villa defenders were just resorting to hacking him down. Brilliant performance. Held the ball up brilliantly and was a nightmare for them.
