Maybe we should loan Danny out again, if we're not going to play him as a striker. I worry about the long term effect this will have on his game, we don't want to turn him into Dirk Kuyt.

Moyes fault... i think

He should stick to the left, but he is just moving freely and Kagawa got stuck in the left...

i hope moyes fix this for the second half. some good 1-2 so far but needs to get more out of his pace.

He was on the left for more than 20 minutes, but Kagawa barely touched the ball in the middle, Rooney was isolated up front, so Moyes switched him and Welbeck, and we started playing much better.

Hate to say it but he doesn't know what he's doing so far. It's painfully visible he hasn't had much football recently.

Gotta love those legs. Pretty sure they're longer than Kagawa is.

ur right... but we are not looking that good. At least holding in there... time to go in front of the scoresheet!!!

That is the way it goes for Welbeck on here.

If he smashes it he should've tried to look for Rooney.

He looks for a pass, he should smash it.

Either way, it allows people to say he always makes the wrong decision in the box.

A bit rusty but a decent performance. Always an outlet, played some nice combinations. No coincidence that we were poorer at keeping possession in their half after he went off.

Standard performance for him, his final ball is non existent which is why he never scores or gets assists. He's pretty good at everything else but today I'm not sure why he didn't stay wide. Shouldn't have started.

Well looking at his goal and assisst stats the last couple of season chances are he indeed does more often than not make the wrong decisions in the box or fails to deliver the right decision.

Continually gets himself into some brilliant positions only for the final ball or decision to let him down.

I thought he won that penalty fairly.

Technically, he did get an assist today.

You know what I mean. He lacks an end product, and can anyone say with confidence that the time he was alone at the side through on goal, that he would pick somebody out? He messes it up 9/10 times, no matter how easy the chance is.

I like Welbeck and think if he sorts out his composure he can be a top player but sometimes it feels like he gets given an easier time than others. Getting in for the penalty and that other good run he had against Dawson were pretty much the only things he did all game. Like Clev he's neat on the ball etc but he simply doesn't create much and isn't forceful often enough with his runs and add to that he's not really a goal threat. I expect he'll stay in the team but really surely he needs to be challenged to do more.

I don't think we'll see a consistent end product from him while he's played out on the left.
Yeah, he's not good enough to play on the left but isn't good enough to be a striker, or to ever be first choice for united. He just lacks key components to his game to ever nail down a position at the club. Some people will probably disagree as he's homegrown, but if he wasn't he would probably be the scapegoat every game. No end product, doesn't impact games enough, has neat pieces of play that lead to just a simple pass backwards, but that's it.

The one thing for me is that the season he got 12 goals he played as Rooney's strike partner but has never had a chance to build on that as we bought RvP and since then he's played mostly on the wing. He lacks composure at the key moment a lot of the time but that wont improve when a lot of games see him mainly tasked with tracking back and being solid defensively.

Sturridge may be selfish but he is decisive for his team. Welbeck doesn't threaten or doesn't give that vibe to defenders that he's gonna do something dangerous.
Yup. Opposition defenders must get delighted when they see his name on the team sheet.

It really is sad but I have become really extremely cynical when it comes to him, even when he brilliantly out paced Dawson, I told myself that it was gonna be pointless.
Yeah, I'm the same. He's probably the last player, along with smalling, who I would want to have on a break away or to have a chance fall to at the end of a game. He's just not decisive and hasn't improved the last few years.

He's often described as a major asset in the big games on here, which is understandable when you look at some of the shifts he puts in, particularly against Real Madrid last season. In saying that, I'm of the opinion that any attacking player that starts big/vital games at United, should be a lot better in front of goal than Welbeck is. It's not even his composure in front of goal that's the problem though, it's his general play in and around the box that's 90% of the time, found wanting.

I know. It wasn't a dig at Sturridge.

Yup, he works hard always, but shouldn't that be the bare minimum for all of our players? His contribution to the attack is youngs level of ineffectiveness to be honest, except welbeck doesn't lose the ball every time he touches it, he just does a little pass back to cleverley or evra after touching the ball 3 or 4 times. He's easy on the eye to watch but he doesn't offer anything to our attack.

He's not match fit and who can blame him...he started off the season with a bang but with the strikers he has ahead of him it would be hard not to get disillusioned......I rate Welbeck so highly as he can see things that only the likes of Rooney and Kagawa can see......but.....he still doesn't really knwo where he is meant to play...in fairness to Welbeck he should move clubs as he would be a hero striker at a team outside the top 6.....Maybe we can offer him to Everton as a sweetner in the Barkley deal over the summer :p....we could throw Cleverley and Young into the offer while we're at it

We laughed at Sturridge and were delighted he signed for the scousers... but it turns out to be a RAWK moment for many of the posters on here... Sturridge is better unfortunately. Another one to file under 'overrated players on here because he came from our youth academy' title... say hi to Cleverly as well (the future that was predicted for him on here after the Charity Shield game against City... loelz).

He he was quite anonymous in the first half, I genuinely forgot he was playing for the most part. Did nothing of note in that half, neither offensively or defensively. However I get the impression he wasn't quite match fit so won't read too much into it.

Problem solved!

Not sure why we played Danny yesterday, i was surprised, Hernandez should have played and then allow a cameo by Wellbeck. As it was he should have played no more than the first half. He didnt really do anything major yesterday.
