Yep, he definitely can improve using of his pace, but he is really fast, that's why I think him and van Persie are great partnership, he has those things that van Persie is lacking, and vice versa.

You might just be right there. Not sure where to play Welbeck though. United don't seem to play with to pure strikers, therefore he would either feature as a number ten or as a wide player. Also, you might argue that Hernandes also has those things that Persie is lacking - I don't think RVP is slow though, he has a very decent burst when he wants to.

With Nani back in the team, Valencia, Hernandes, (Young - Mr backpass) and Welbeck, we do have some serious counter attacking pace to scare opponents with.

Definitely as number ten, or how van Persie described that position when he played with Rooney last season - nine and a half, with our two strikers interchanging in those two positions(one to stay up front, and the other plays behind him of course). Real Madrid away is good example of that, or our first game this season against Swansea.

I agree. He isn't good enough going past players to play as a winger - as I argued above, his acceleration isn't Naniesque and his dribbles are a bit erratic. He's terrific in the center though; it's as if he makes those long legs work and he's great at holding the ball too. I also think his short passing can be quite good.

Would anyone seriously distill those two players to pace or goals?
Yet, it is representative of some basic points used, in much more verbose arguments, one might expect to see on here.

It was well worth explaining though.

Huh? Do we need to be more verbose in describing Welbeck as surprisingly swift across the pitch? Sure, we could do a RAWK and write a poem about it, but what we were talking about could ultimately be summed up into one point - his pace. As a comparison, Amar argued that Welbeck may thus complement RVP who isn't about using his pace, certainly not top speed, to any great length. We could, to your pleasing perhaps, argue that both have good technique, but there is a discernible difference between them in that department, and that RVP is by far the suprior finishing. All things considered though, it was never a comparison of the two players, which would both be redundant and quite frankly stupid.

If your above argument is a joke, I'm much too tired to take notice. It might be very funny though.

Curious, do England fans in general take note of Welbeck now and say he actually is a pretty good striker? He's played a couple of really good games for England. Curious to know if his stock is going up or if it is just the same bitter shit that because he's a United player he gets no credit from oppo fans?

If he didn't play for United and just for England you'd think he's a fecking amazingly talented striker at 22. Destined for big things for England. (By the Media.)

Took both his goals well but seemed to have more freedom to get central than he does when playing for us.

They're blinded by his stats for last season. It'll take him quite a long while before they realise how good he is. He'll be England's top scorer for the World Cup next year if he's fit.

He seems to be a great player in the making. He's fast, he's technically gifted and he's strong. Unfortunately god knows in which position he will do well in. He lacks of natural finishing instinct which is necessary for the lone striker position and he lacks the crossing ability to become a winger.

True, and I hope Moyes shows enough patience with him. If he brings in more composure and maturity in his gameplay he can be absolutely unstoppable. A couple of chipped finishes lately goes to show he has worked on that aspect.

Well, here is 1 quote from my Facebook yesterday. This is a guy who has both played and managed at a fairly high level down the years: "Can someone please tell me what football managers see in Danny Welbeck? He's garbage!!"

That is the general feeling. I don't know how long it will last. He'll still be shit when he's got 40 international goals

I can't believe Townsend was endlessly rabbiting on about him 'not scoring enough for England' he's got 7 in 12, I'm pretty sure he's up there as England's top scorer in the past year or so.

Well they obviously seem to know sweet FA about football then. He's a quality young player and the fact that he's not so potent in front of goal for united has skewed people's perceptions of him. He will get there in the end.

If he is given confidence by future english managers - he could easily end up one of the all-time leading goalscorers for England.

I don't think there's much to worry about. He's been first choice in 3 different managers opinions, now. 4, maybe, can't remember if he ever played under Capello.

Thankfully when it comes to managing England they tend to pick people who know a bit more about football than the idiots that don't rate him.

Welbeck has scored 5 goals in 6 appearances for club and country this season. Not bad at all.

Meaningless as he can't finish and is now too old to learn.

If played as a pure striker he'll get any team goals. He's somewhat wasteful but his technique, pace, strength and movement means he'll get a shitload of chances.

Do we know why he wasn't in the squad yesterday? Was at work and missed the game. Thought he was a shoe-in when he had to miss the Ukraine match.

I don't think that's too serious, probably couple of days.
