In Welbeck's defense who else are you gonna play at minute? Young - Who isn't good enough? Kagawa - Who is injured and a number 10 by trade? Nani - Who is just back from injury?

Kagawa isn't injured.

Hernandez looked good today. Wouldn't mind seeing him and Van Persie play together, and Rooney will probably return to his role in the hole when he returns. Welbeck will undoubtedly get some game time out wide, but that's not his preferred position either and he struggles to offer a lot more than his workrate when he's on the wing.

Too many touches. Not enough killer instinct.

I think there were 3-4 situations where he could've shot, passed or crossed earlier and created a better attacking situation for us. However he chose to take the extra touch and ruined it.

Very frustrating player.

There are probably 2/3 candidates that should be dropped before Welbeck.

Hernandez looked OK, against a tiring Liverpool side at a time when we were playing with genuine width. If we'd have played Chich/RvP we would have been absolutely battered today. Danny at least gave us an outlet when the midfield was competent enough to find him, and gave a feck enough to battle for everything while other more experienced players were content to do their little skills without putting the work in and with no concern for the result.

He's more athlete than footballer. Just doesn't have that quick thinking ability in the box. Solskjaer always got his shot off when given a half chance. For welbeck, it'll inevitably be blocked.

No killer instinct around the box and I'm not sure that's something you can learn over time, you've either got it or you haven't. Rest of his game is brilliant.

He was good in the first half, one of our better players, but he was also poor in the second half.

Whaaaat? Lynk, is that you?

Had that one chance in the box that was blocked by glen Johnson. He just needs to pull the trigger a little quicker! Im sure that will come in time though. He has been improving a lot and im shocked at how big and strong he has gotten. Looks like a body builder out there right now, similar to Valencia!

We can't play a forward who misses so many chances in and around the box in today's game, chances are at a premium and Welbeck will never finish more that 10% of them.

I just don't know how you can be a forward and be so hesitant and unsure of yourself when in and around the box. He'll just never shoot or do anything remotely useful when in the box. I'd rather see Hernandez start than him tbh, he knows how to score and his link up play has really improved as well.

He lacks the killer instinct of good (I'm not even comparing him to great) goal scorers. It's almost like he's too laid back. Hope he wakes up!

You have all summed up what I was thinking, he takes too long to make and decision and when he does it is usually the wrong one. He hasn't improved in 3 years in that regard....

No, no he isn't.

It was a poor performance from Welbeck. While his dribbling was excellent and at times he looked threatening, he takes far too long to make that final pass. I don't care about his shooting today and quite frankly, I don't know why that's been debated, but what had me annoyed was his reluctance to release the ball early. There was a chance in the first half where Van Persie was ahead of him, surrounded by the two centre-backs, and all he had to do was pass it, but due to his slow approach, Gerrard made a great tackle to block him. He was so close to scoring a header, too, from Young's cross.

Started the move for the first goal and scored a fantastic goal for England. Good game from Welbeck thus far.

Better than Crouch?
@walsh.. its on youtube.
search welbeck and sort by upload date.

He's got a very good record for England, hasn't he? Almost a one in two ratio. It will be interesting to see how many goals he gets for England when he finishes his career.

I was thinking earlier today, that when Welbeck plays wide he really needs to make more of those Walcott-like runs in behind, and he'd get more goals. He has the pace to do so, and as a striker by trade he should be looking to get into those positions. Two good goals for him tonight. Hope he gets into more goal scoring positions from wide at United.

Can we play Nani, Kagawa, Rooney, Welbeck and Van Persie?

We have some exciting attacking talent! Except Young.. And Valencia.

Pace for that first goal is ridiculous.

Could Rooney and Kagawa learn to play a little deeper? Seems that Fellaini is going to come into midfield pretty consistently, but it would be great to see something like:

Carrick Rooney
Nani Welbeck Kagawa
Persie
or

Carrick
Rooney Kagawa
Nani Persie Welbeck
Sadly it's a bit unrealistic, we might see it against the bottom clubs but it won't be our best formation.
Carrick, Fellaini, Nani, Rooney and Persie should be in the first XI (along with De Gea, Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra), other than that I would think Welbeck, Kagawa, Valencia and Young will be first in line for those two last spots.

He's ridiculously fast. His acceleration isn't that of a young Giggs or a Nani, but his top speed is incredible. Definitely one of the fastest sprinters in the PL - not too good at using it all the time though, but showed terrific pace to score both goals yesterday.

Yep, he definitely can improve using of his pace, but he is really fast, that's why I think him and van Persie are great partnership, he has those things that van Persie is lacking, and vice versa.
