Danny Welbeck | 2011-14 Performances

Danny Welbeck with goals is a terrifying prospect for defenders.

Nah, not just based on today, I just think he has it in him and it might be his season after under performing last season.

I seriously hope so. Didn't expect that type of finish from him and hope it is a springboard for the lad. If he could get 15-20 goals this season, we would be in a great position. Bit worried about Hernandez never getting game time though.

Im absolutely delighted for him, he will be a vital player for us this season and many many more.

I dont think he under performed last season at all, people just get blinded by the goal tally which admittedly was too low but he was played mainly as a winger, and he played very well.

Looking at Danny develop I feel that actually Rooney has to leave in order to allow him space to do so.

In Kagawa, Hernandez, Welbeck and RvP we have four players capable of scoring a lot of goals and if Welbeck really steps up then we won't miss Rooney's 15-20 goals this season. I still don't think we should sell to Chelsea but after watching Welbeck tonight I really want to see our homegrown talent flourish and I think Rooney gets in the way of that.

He worked hard last season and put in some good performances, but it's fairly clear that he under-performed. Looks to be much improved this season though. Played well on Wednesday and had a great game tonight.

Good game and important goals for him and us. Would like to see a bit more urgency to his game, sometimes he can appear quite casual but he's still a young player, got everything there though. Will be interesting if he does end up playing wide alot and coming in. With Valencia, Nani, Young, Zaha not to mention Januzaj and Kagawa maybe looking for game time from a wider area, there's a lot of players atm for a few spots in the team.

Agree completely

Provided we get a decent offer I wouldn't mind at all if Rooney left, we're stocked with talent and potential upfront and they could really benefit from the increased games. Chich started less than 10 league games last season which isn't enough to develop him fully, likewise with Welbeck he was virtually permanently played on the left.

Has already doubled last year's tally of league goals. It's a David Moyes miracle.

I don't agree that Rooney has to leave for Welbeck to shine. Moyes is using a front 3 that was clearly devastatingly effective. If you replace Giggs with Rooney then I think we are looking at our strongest lineup. Welbeck would be a part of that.

Now that he has his finishing nailed down all he has to do is sort out his shit first touch and erratic ball control and he'll be a decent option, as a defensive forward.

I dunno, I reckon De Gea will be pissed of that Welbeck's fannying about cost him his clean sheet bonus.

Didn't you hear him yelling: " Danny, you just cost me points on fantasy, you idiot!".

He's still very inconsistent, but those goals will do him good.

He has to be automatic first choice this season I think. He's too good and effective to have sitting on the bench.

It's difficult to figure out how to fit all of our attacking players in. There's five or six who it just feels like would be a waste to have sitting on the bench half the time. Then Zaha to add to that who looks potentially as talented as any of them.

Brilliant. Just the start to the season that he needed and with his goal for England midweek, it makes it a great week for him.

Yeah, he's had an awfully inconsistent season to date, agreed.
Managing 2 goals every 90 minutes in the league. Sort it out Danny Boy, inconsistent piece of poo.

Jesus, you guys just can't take any bit of criticism? Can you? He had a good game today, scored 2 good goals, made a bit of a cock up for Swansea's goal though. What do you expect me to say? He's the reincarnation of Puskas, Best & Maradonna? I didn't know we had become RAWK.

Just the confidence boosting start he needed. He will kick on and get 20+ goals for us this year, I have no doubt about it.

Yes. And Pele.

Come on, you can't say someone is still inconsistent when they've had a perfect start to the season. It just sounds ridiculous.

Yeah but he gave the ball away in a silly area, ergo Lynk was always right about the lad. He's shit, lets sell him- that is if anyone would want him!

He had a good game and I'm crediting him for that. Perfect is pushing it too far.

Hello RAWK. Yes just ignore the bit where I'm crediting him.

Thought he was pretty wank by his standards apart from the goals, like Rooney from last season.

You can. It's been a few games and while Welbeck has been fantastic so far, that doesn't automatically mean that suddenly all of his inconsistencies have disappeared for good. Like I said though, hopefully he'll start to get rid of that this season and the signs so far suggest that he could do.

The only quality you have originally attributed to him is that he is inconsistent, you didn't give him credit until people called you on it!!

Oh for feck sake. How was the second part of the post not crediting him? People like you are fecking delusional. Welbeck is a professional footballer, he needs to constantly improve. And he knows that himself. I acknowledged the goals, but I also have a right to constructively criticize him and not be harangued by some RAWKite-lite who turns everything into an issue.

Do you seriously think Moyes will not talk to him about that error? Neville himself would tell you it's an unforgiving changing room. The only reason I'm even bringing it up is because people are using the word "perfect". He had a good game. Took his chances well. But also needs to improves in other areas.

He said "still inconsistent". The "still" part is the problem. The natural way to judge a players form is over the current season. And Welbeck has been very good so far. As the season goes on maybe we will see that the "inconsistent" criticism can still be applied. But not yet...

I've said it before, and I stand by it...he's gonna become a better player then Rooney ever was.

He's also gonna be our best player in a few years.

Rooney scored 34 goals in a season twice. Won PFA player of the year. And is our third highest goal scorer. He's a pretty fecking excellent footballer on form.

Scores two goals today, 1 big mistake costs us a goal.

I don't see how inconsistent isn't a fair word?

The season has had one game, and two if you count the Community Shield. I'm confident Welbeck is going to have a very good season and hopefully he will get rid of that inconsistency and erratic side of his game, but he's not wrong in saying that Welbeck is generally an inconsistent player and you can't automatically dismiss it after one or two games.

Exactly. People turn my posts into a saga everytime because of my tagline. They ignore the bits where I credit him and go straight to the criticisms.

He's a fecking striker. He scored twice. I hope every fecking game he is just as " inconsistent".
Christ.
