Good performance from Danny, aside from the brainfart that led to their goal. Looked confident in everything he was doing. Task now is to keep that up throughout the season.

Absolutely delighted for him!

He needed to get off the mark this season to get rid of any pressure he had and he's done it perfectly

If Rooney leaves it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if it means Welbeck and Chich can develop their world class potential

The fact that he had the confidence to even try that shows his character let alone pull it off so well.

Very good performance, but still deserves a bollocking for the Swansea goal. Obvious complacency, that needs to be stomped out asap.

Excellent performance from him today. He showed his inconsistency in that he's capable of those brainfart moments like the Swansea goal, but his two goals more than made up for it, especially the second one which was superb.

His finishing has been a major weakness but if he gets plenty of time centrally this season, which may be the case, then he looks as if he could really have a top season.

He's going to be absolute class for us. I love the fact we have a home grown forward scoring goals in the premier league. Bringing through young players is always nice, but it's been so long since we brought through a real proper striker, somehow it's more special.

A goalkeeper and a striker was the only position that Fergie hadnt produce a homegrown player of real quality. Looks like it will only be a goalie that he will have missed.

His mistake lead to the goal as he was showboating a little but when you can do what he did afterwards ... It's more than forgiven, it's completely forgotten :wenger:

His all round game is sublime, but if he's scoring goals too then he will be undroppable IMO.

Excellent performance from Welbeck, save the silly mistake that led to their goal.

I've got his name on my 2013/14 shirt this season. Absolutely love the guy, I can see him going on to be a United legend at this rate.

I think he kind of made up by having Schmeichel, Van Der Sar and De Gea in goal :D

I've got a good feeling about him this season. His finishing can't be much worse this year. His all round play is already terrific.

Just needs to save his ball skills for the other box please.

I've said it before, and I stand by it...he's gonna become a better player then Rooney ever was.

He's also gonna be our best player in a few years.

Can't finish, this lad

It's easy to be over-optimistic after a performance like that, but I do think there's a real possibility that he'll win YPOTY this season.

Last season, he would have headed off towards the corner flag and waited for support from Valencia. This season he went for an outrageous chip.

I don't think he's suddenly become a better finisher, so much as his balls have finally grown to their critical mass. It's been coming for a few seasons now.

Good for England and my Fantasy team if he keeps it up.

I'd like to make it known to the wider caftard population that there was a Redcafe Fantasy Football draft last night and I was the one who picked Welbeck. I won't name names but they know who they are.

The way he took the second goal showed the confidence the first goal had given him, couldn't have been a better first outing of the season for him.

fecking up outside the area aside another very good showing.

It's how one responds to such failures that's important. Took him a couple of minutes to redeem himself in the most audacious of fashions.

Utterly brilliant.

Even though the finish was more like his goal vs Belgium, the little bit of cockiness he showed reminded me of the one vs Derby County years ago
