Danny Welbeck | 2011-14 Performances

Welbz has surely made the step up this pre-season. He's been sparkling and finally he's adding goals to the rest of his output. I've said in the past he can be the next Dwight Yorke and I stand by that. He's got all the gifts (and lacks the appetite for glam girls so that should help him maintain those gifts!)

He's also shown an eye for a pass I never knew he had. Granted, he's always been good at the odd flick, but there have been times when he's threaded the ball through a crowd of players almost as well as Michael Carrick.

Yep. I hope these performances for England get him the recognition he deserves from fans across the country - far too many of my non-united supporting mates still dismiss him as 'shit'. For a player who is so clearly gifted and intelligent with and without the ball, it really is infuriating.

Would be interested to see the number of passes from him tonight. Was it me or he really made a lot of them? He was everywhere tonight, great performance by him.

Plays a lot better for England than for United, and I agree I think him playing deeper is better.

He always maintains possession, even when it looks he's overrun it. Close control is exceptional.

Definitely played deeper and more central than I'm used to seeing. Really did well there too. His touch was excellent today, as was his general short passing.

Still doubt he has the range of passing to be a true attacking midfielder, but he's another option.

Deeper, on the left or where ever, I just love seeing him play.

Personally I still think he'll develop into a top class centre forward.

Played well tonight. Definitely one of England's better players in the game and was a lot better than Rooney, which admittedly wasn't difficult.

It baffles. It's as if a lot of people have been oblivious to Danny's quality due to his missing goals the last year. Some are talking as if he's Heskey turned into Ronaldo this summer.

Any gifs for that sexy backheel to Rooney in the first half?

Yep. Maybe some blinkers might come off this year. We have a hell of a young player on our hands

His decision making in the final third is improving a lot.

Still people who refuse to acknowledge what he brings to a team. One of the most underrated players around, imo.

So it sounds like he had a great game. Will anyone make a highlight video? I watched the Poland-Denmark game.

Had that scissor kick gone in, from that corner, I think it would have eclipsed Rooney's overhead kick against City

Welbeck will be such a monster of a player

Really? Friendly match v Scotland or critical Premier League game v City? Rooney's was far more difficult to execute too.

His goal in the FA Cup was very similar to that one he just missed. Class finish.

I guess most fans think like this - Welbeck is a forward, and because he has a pretty poor scoring record = shit player. No matter how many great moves he starts, how much effort he puts in tracking back, all the neat little touches and link up play, if he's not getting goals, he's rubbish. I think he's going to improve all areas of his game this season, including his goal return, and I'm hoping that will shut the tards up.

Not just fans. Some poor articles focus on the low scoring record as though he doesn't bring so much more to the game.

He got four key passes tonight and still kept 91% possession. I really think this will be a big season for him.

This lad is like a litmus test for seeing if somebody understands the game of football, brings so much to your side and he has time on his side to develop his composure around the box so he can increase his goals/assists tally. At worst he's a great tool in your tool box when you need to control a game, mark a deep lying playmaker out of the game (or if you play him wide, pin a fullback back), and have a player who maintains possession to ease the pressure on your defence

Calling him a tool is a little harsh, but yeah, agree with this.
