Good game from him today, should have got MOTM. Industrious, good touch and passing and found space constantly and always open for his teammates.

Just needs to add more goals to his game, but everything else is there.

Really liked him in that hole again, actually seems most suited to that position now.

I'm serious, I though he was consistently our best attacking outlet in the final 3rd and did what I wish all our forwards did which is work hard as soon as we've lost the ball in the final 3rd to get it back. I honestly didn't see who was better than him today.

Our player who scored two goals?

Who?

Anyone who criticises him today is a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

Andy Gray, Peter Reid and Ian Wright. They kept talking about his fragile mentality of a striker, that he shouldn't be afraid to hit the ball.
They made it seem like he should have hit it instead of passing it to RVP for his second goal.

Apart from those two goals he didn't really contribute much, fair enough they were the deciding factor but those aside I wouldn't really say he had a good game, he was decent but not much more than that. Still well done to him.

He's there to score goals. It's his job in the team and whilst you might not think his general play was as good as others he effected the result of the game more than anyone else.

Yes he is there to score goals and he did but can you really say he was a constant thorn in Wigan's side today?

I've seen better perfomances from RVP, this was more in line with his end of season form where he was still getting goals but not really excelling as opposed to his early season form last season where he was terrorizing defences. Apart from the goals he scored (one out of nothing) I can't remember many other goal scoring chances from him.

Decent but he can do better.

Thought he was very good today. Can see why he was played in the hole today, his ability to hold the ball with his back to goal is very useful. Couldn't see someone like Kagawa or Januzaj being as effective behind the striker in this game.

He is a really useful and competent team player; never gives less than a 7/10 performance.

Just a shame his finishing is 2/10. I really don't mean to sound like a cnut when I say that, I generally feel that if he can improve inside the box then he'd be a top player.

Thought he had a good game, probably wasn't an ideal set up because Wigan were so deep a lot of the time, the space wasn't there for him, but can see again he's got all the tools, just needs that cutting edge.

We'll have to beg to differ there

I sometimes wonder what player people are watching? One of Welbeck's great strengths is his close control, touch and ability in small spaces.

His finishing is his problem. His touch and close control are definitely really good aspects of his game.

I thought he was our best player today, he was involved in everything good that we did in the final third. I just love the way he plays with his quick passing and link up play.

I have no idea how anyone could say he doesn't have a good first touch.

I'm clearly alone on this issue but there's no doubt to me that his touch is extremely hit and miss. Unless he ups his goal tally this year which face it wouldn't be hard I can't see his long term future here.

He's fantastic on the ball. Can squeeze out of tight spaces, his little flicks and backheels set other players up around him, he continuously makes opposition players panic and foul him...He isn't perfect by any stretch but his close control is excellent.

Madness.

You're alone for good reason; you're completely wrong.

I'd say his touch is more erratic than anything else. When on form it's very, very good, although when he's not playing as well it can look a little bit suspect. He definitely needs to up his goal tally although hopefully he'll get more time in a central position this season where he's best.

It's not erratic either.

I genuinely think people look at him, see him looking gangly and all arms and legs and presume his touch isn't as good as it is.

Occasionally I think it is. Perhaps slightly clumsy on the ball might be a better term.

I think he's got probably the best technique at the club on the ball along with Carrick and Nani.

Danny's overall game is top notch. He showed it again today.

A lot of that will be for nothing if he does not improve his goal record though. A forward/striker who played as often as he did last year has to score more than the total he managed last year for United.
