Welbeck was poor last season. He need to improve a great deal this season and the next, or his time at United will come to an end.

Calling it right now but Danny will score more than 15 goals this season and will go in Brazil and lead the line for England.
Of course he will lead the line. Who else is there?

Well taken goal but should have scored more. His all round play is excellent, he must improve his finishing though.

Yeah, he should have scored the last two chances. He does everything right until the final finish.

The first chance was difficult, but the three last ones should have been put away - only one out of three.

Having said that, he looks absolutely brilliant in the build-up, as always. I almost hope Rooney goes away so he'll get more opportunities up front this season.

Much better play from him today.

He's been very good today. Should have had a goal more maybe but he's shown good composure to take the ball past keeper

Two goals will do him good, although I'm not sure his finishing has improved much really - he could have had 6!

Why is he unable to roll the ball into an open goal? Also, why is he unable to not fall over whenever entering an opponents 16 yard area? I mean, his balance is pretty much perfect everywhere else on the pitch.

He's the anti-Hernandez.

Hope he'll take some confidence from those goals today though.

Didn't catch the match, unfortunately, so I'm not qualified to comment on his performance. But scoring is just what he needs - never mind that he apparently missed some sitters, the main thing is that he actually scored.

Two goals and he took it past the keeper twice in one game with consummate ease, and yet he's not much of a goal threat. Go figure. The fact is he gets himself in great positions because he has the pace to get in behind, the height to pose a handful from crosses and the technique to create his own chances in and around the box so as long as he keeps doing this he'll be a big goal threat. I don't see him ever being someone who gobbles up all the "easy" chances and someone who gets 20+ goals but he can score in a whole range of ways and he's got so much to his game that he's bound to get into double figures season after season if he's played up top. And he offers a tremendous amount in the build-up. It's absolutely mental that some people watch him and "hard-working" is the first thing that comes to mind. He contributes so much to fluid build-up play.

Two good goals but could have had 5 probably. Maybe it's his selection, because if you round the keeper twice you shouldn't really miss twice. I think he needs to work on his variation. He needs a better idea of who's around him, because once round the keeper if he smacks it he gets another two goals. When you try to place it, there was no pace on the finish and that allowed the defender to clear. If you're going to strike it like that, you might as well dink it but his general play was very strong.

Dannnnyyyyyyy, he had two pretty much cleared off the line (first one was a block more than an off the line clearance).
So happy for the lad.

When you watch him live you can see how smart he is with his link up play and his movement was intelligent and strong. Was one of the players I was really looking at closely to see the intricacies of his game. Some of his tight dribbling was excellent as well.

We all like him, but it's a bit delusional expecting him to score 15-20 goals. He won't play as a striker every week and I think that in most of games he'll play as a winger. He cannot displace RVP (or even Chicha though here there is a slim possibility) as the main striker and from the wings 10 goals are excellent. Nani for example is a much better finisher than him and still in his best seasons he scored only 10 goals. That's what I think should be Welbeck's target.

I don't think it's delusional at all. If you can see him getting possibly 10 goals and being happy with that, another five doesn't sound out of the realms of possibility. We will see over the coming season but I think he's easily got it in him to get that many goals, it's just about getting the games and confidence to go with it.

Scorer of great goals, not a great goalscorer. Mark Hughes with added pace

Not really much like Mark Hughes apart from in the sense of your first sentence. But I agree with that part, at the moment. It's hard to make predictions based on a few games here and there about what a striker could or couldn't do as first choice #9.

Damn, I missed the game. Is Welbeck as mediocre as some make it seem? So, a Welbeck match comp will be released. Off topic: can anyone list the players who played great?

Codswallop, apart from his goal scoring he was excellent.

That's an absurdly low standard for 'excellent'. If that was excellent you'd have to ejaculate a thesaurus to describe our truly top class players contributions.

If he continues his direct, pacey, powerful runs behind the defence. He is going to be a real handful for the whole of Europe.

I agree. Even without scoring (and if he rotates to the wing and drops deep like he did in the last friendly, where there's less pressure on goals) he can be a nightmare for defenders. He's so strong at times, he's lighting quick and he's not afraid to run at people.

Apologies on the delay of the match comp. I downloaded the match in 1080i, but the conversion is taking long. Welbeck and Cleverley match comps will be released (I don't think I'm missing anyone else, as Zaha, Januzaj, and Lingard comps have been made by me/others).

Maybe he will go the Dembele route and convert to midfield and become a beast! Midfield problem solved!

In all seriousness though Danny has a bright future. The poor finishing is a concern but Rooney at his age scored more screamers than tap ins and easy chances too.

The art of finishing is a tough one. It's probably the hardest skill to develop and hardest to learn after beating a man with dribbling.

Danny's finishing will get better. He's too good a football player to know develop in that area.

Sick, I didn't even think of a Cleverley match comp (what's the point when he only lasts 60 minutes, after all :p), but that would be great.

Haha, that's even better because it won't take me that much time to cut the relevant clips. :)

A bit late with this, but I made a Welbeck match comp of his very good performance two days ago:

Enjoy.
