He's doing that thing Henry used to do when he was younger...where he just wants the clearest and widest opening to shoot. One day he'll turn up and smash every ball laid in front of him.

He loves to overplay things in the box. I get the feeling that he will surprise himself if he chooses to take the direct option more often. Via a deflection or pure luck, that ball will find the net.

It didn't get any clearer than when Giggs passed it to him.If he doesn't shoot the ball there then when will he ? I'm going a bit OTT, he'll be a great player but it's so frustrating at the same time not to see him score more goals

He can have no complaints about being on the bench most of the time when he refuses to convert clear cut chances.

Same old really. Contributes greatly to our overall play but when he gets a goal scoring chance he fecks it up. Which is a bit worrying for a striker but he has loads of time to work on that.

He's just tentative in front of goal and overthinking things. It won't last.

I don't get it though, he's so confident in every other area of the pitch. He was one of the few players for us that seemed comfortable/untrouble by the spectacle of the Bernabeu but for some reason put him in front of goal and he's a different player.

It's an odd situation, that I think will eventually work itself out.

He's class, all of his work off the ball and in the final 3rd is great. He just seems to need a bit more confidence in the box. That's something he'll get when he's more comfortable and becomes more selfish. The guys a real talent.

I get it! It's called overthinking.

Why? Because it's not in line with your opinion? He was piss poor, I expect more from Danny.

Not really.

The point is, we have 3 more prolific strikers ahead of him. We don't depend on welbeck for goals. hence people are happy when he gets the chance. If he was put in a team with him as a sole striker, people will most definitely slaughter him to bits. His decision making inside the box is very poor but outside the box he's a completely different player.

As a goal scoring striker, he had a pathetic game. But his link up play and passing today outside the box was great to watch. His one touch football, his hold up play, etc. By no means he had a "disgraceful" game whatsoever. You are going way over the top about his criticism

I just think it comes from missing a few. It's not like he's a nervous wreck, it's just when the chance comes he's all left brain. At some point, maybe next season, he'll get two or three on the spin and then it will suddenly seem the easiest thing in the world.

I think he just wants to make sure he's in the "optimum shooting position" before he has a dig. Like, he wants no one in front of him, no one around him, and room for a clean strike on goal. It's probably a confidence thing... but ultimately, his play all over the pitch is great and eventually he'll start banging them in, so I don't think there is anything to worry about.

It's usually that isn't it? Sometimes you feel its better if you get rid of the obstacle.

Need to be more clinical in front of goal. He seems to over analyse situation instead of hitting his chance first time.

A good performance but just so indecisive when it comes to the final ball! He is still young and I think thats expected of a striker. No doubts in my mind that in a few years time he will be banging them in on the regular. He has the ability to get into excellent goalscoring positions and his pace/strength is there for everyone to see.

The not shooting is a confidence thing, obviously, but even when he does hit it, it's well beyond Coleian levels of unconfident striking. Cole would have his shots saved, or skew them a bit wide when he was short of confidence, Danny seems to be able to conspire to trip over his own legs, hit it off someone elses or sky it improbably high from a very close distance.

Disgrace of a performance, worst I've ever seen from him.

lol Jacob. Get a grip.

Two tremendous chances that ought to have been goals, but yeah, that's just him not being as ruthless and wanting to take that extra second to set himself just right. He'll be cutting that out and banging goals in instead in no time :)

I used to underrate him a lot but after being told off on it here I've been watching him more carefully and he seems to be a wonderful player.

At that age, his lack of shooting confidence is a minor blip likely to be sorted with time. Sometimes an important match-winner is all that it takes to turn these things around completely, as it certainly isn't a matter of ability. I think it's better than if it were the other way around, i.e., less ability with scoring confidence. At least this way you can have reasonable hopes of him becoming a world class striker capable of leading your attack some 2-3 years down the line in a post RvP scenario.

You still have Hernandez for those moments when you urgently need some more fire-power inside the box.
