Kagawa is only a striker if Scholes was often in his early years. So yes.

All you need is a fourth option, a winger who can do a job or an attacking midfielder. Or you could land lucky and have a fourth striker who's happy to spend most of his time on the bench. Given that player would still have to be quality I reckon he would be difficult to find.

Yeah exactly, so three really isn't enough and ideally it would be a proper striker to fill the position.

But he had to be told that he was done here. He made no fuss,
That is not for the Danny thread though.

It doesn't really matter who told who to go, it's the fact he had to leave due to not getting games. It's relevant to Welbeck, he could quite easily find himself in a similar situation. If Kagawa starts to perform up to expectations it's going to be difficult to get a game.

Probably because Yorke and Cole were very good players, whereas Rooney and RVP are amongst the best to ever play for this football club. Signing the latter was always go to stall Danny's development for a couple of years, and it's no negative reflection on him as a young footballer in the least.

How do people think Neville would have fared if we'd signed Cafu in 1996?

I agree.

It's a different story this season with the signings of 2 quality forwards. Welbeck has loads of time though, 10+ years left in his game. I'm leaning towards loaning him out if we find the right club. The circumstances at the moment are incredibly tough for him to break through. 22 might seem old to send him out on loan, but it's an abnormal situation we have on our hands.

Sorry if people have already said this, but Welbeck has our 2nd most appearances this season. Only behind Van Persie who is probably the best since Ronaldo to wear devil red.

The idea of loaning him out is bizarre.

So much furore over whats really not an outrageous statement. If we can find a good PL club that'l play him every week and get a release clause in to cover for emergencies, it'l be good for Welbeck. We'd still have 3 strikers + Kagawa to play in those 2 positions.

If he's released on loan, United will miss him. Danny Welbeck has much to offer this season yet.

Ofcourse he does. With us gunning for trophies on all fronts, i'd want us to keep hold of all 4 too. What am saying is that the furore is unnecessary. kietotheworld is hardly proposing something outrageous.

His initial post contained a lot of stupid stuff but the gist wasnt outrageous.

Word. Which is probably why The Sun and Daily Mail removed the article ages ago. Danny hasn't scored enough this year. There's no denying that. But, considering how much he's played, Fergie obviously feels he still offers a whole lot. As does anyone with a pair of working eyes. From here on in the games are coming thick and fast. We'll need all our quality players.

One slight exaggeration isn't a lot of stupid stuff. We'll only miss him if we have a devastating injury crisis, and even in the event he probably wouldn't do as much good if we had him. As has already been pointed out on here even by his most ardent supporters, his finishing and composure is terrible, and it's not going to get any better without consistently playing as a striker. Playing out on the wing and only getting odd games is the reason put forward for his atrocious goals record this season, there's no reason to expect the cause is going to change.

The notion of loaning Welbeck out is ridiculous. It's only been a month since we had barely any attacking players fit besides strikers. Welbeck has been covering the wings a lot this season and it does him good. Much more so than going to a team where he'll see less of the ball in 90minutes than he'll do here in 30.

We need Welbeck. Plain and simple. Some people here think that having 20-22 players is enough and that loaning players out is some kind of a miracle solution of making them better or happier.

Looks to me like The Sun broke this gem. They certainly had it up hours before that The Times link above.

Rumours of interest from Everton too on twitter and everton forum bluekipper. I'm not a welbeck fan, for all his team work and effort he lacks the goals and composure. Maybe this will come with time but he ain't gonna get the games here in his main no 9 position to develop unless we have huge injury crisis.

Loan with recall clause works for me- but doubt fergie will let him go unless he got a Fellaini/ Zaha/ Lewandowski up his sleeve.

Can't see him going anywhere. He has been getting plenty of game time here and has a role to play in the run in.

I wouldn't mind him playing at reading under a loan with an option to recall, if the reason for the loan was a starting XI place rather than cover, don't see why not.

Think he might well start on Sunday. If Nani or Kagawa play on the wing then his ability to win the ball back high up the pitch might edge the selection his way. Obviously Hernandez has a fantastic scoring record against them, but having seen us completely over run at anfield untill the sending off I think Fergie might go for the extra harassing ability of Welbeck.

Damning with faint praise maybe but I'd say he's definitely one of the best defensive forwards in the premier league. Not the first choice of what you want in a championship winning side as a striker obviously, but it is an attribute we can utilize in certain games. If he stays the same it's not enough to keep him here for the rest of his career but I have no doubt that he'll become much more prolific and score plenty of goals for us in the future.

Got a lot to learn, but I've said before he doesn't strike me as a Kenny Miller type where everything's 100 mph in his head and will always snatch at chances. He's not a natural like Hernandez but could well emulate Rooney by learning when and what type of runs to make will lead you to scoring more and more goals. Genuinely believe he will become a 20 league goals a season player if he gets enough game time.

Ridiculous how high he speaks about Welbeck and dissmis this rumour, yet there are deluded Manchester United fans who don't rate Welbeck, and who thought this loan is quite possible.

You're right, it is pretty ridiculous to say everyone in the country thinks he's a great player. It's very easy to be a smug arsehole calling people deluded when the move has been dismissed by one of the managers involved.

Was it not ridiculous before McDermott dismissed the idea?

Welbeck reminds me of somebody who's grown up playing keep ball on square pitches all his life. He's very good at it. Then you put a goal there and he's a little bit confused, looking at it like a young lion while the older lions devour their prey. He'll get it eventually and he'll be an awesome forward, I'm sure of it.

No - Reading need a striker, Welbeck needs games, Manchester United can't give him games without dropping superior players, it would have suited all parties.

Potentially the least accurate claim made on this forum so far this year. Putting aside every other thing that's wrong with this absurd statement, why on Earth would Danny Welbeck want to play for the worst team in the league?

I think he meant everyone in the country involved in the professional game. Obviously he wasn't referring to clueless twats like Lynk.

He's not taken part in only a handful of games this season. There's a lot to come from Welbeck in a United shirt between now and May.

Only a complete fecking mentalist would loan out Welbeck at this point.

It was a ridiculous story from the off. Even The Sun and Daily Mail washed their hands of it after giving it a second thought. Those of who found it plausible deserve to be named and shamed.

"Here, Danny, I know you're playing most weeks for the team comfortably top of the league, alongside some of the best players in the world...but wouldn't you much prefer to go and get almost certainly relegated?"

So he can get a consistent run playing first team football.

He's only not taken part in a handful of games this season.

Sure, but he's being played out on the wing, getting brief cameos and playing in the Cups. He's only scored one goal so it's obviously not doing him much good, it'd be a lot better for his development if he went to another club where he could play as a striker week in week out.

Yes, because that's the thought process of a player maybe wanting to start every week? Welbeck's had more games recently, because Kagawa and Nani have been injured, and Rooney has been out for a while. I can't see him playing as much for the rest of the season. Don't think he will be loaned out either mind.
