Must be brain dead if people can't see his quality. Such a good player.

Welbeck was terrific, I find it funny that fans who witness RVP's brilliance week in and week out at a relatively mature age don't feel Welbeck can make similar strides in terms of finishing.

Ferguson put Welback in that team to do exactly what he did, and was one of the best players on the pitch.

Yes his finishing and composure in the box needs maturity, but some of the comments he gets on here are fecking brainless

Alternatively if we'd have had Hernandez on the pitch in the first half when we were on top we might have been 2 up or more by half time.

Welbeck certainly brings something to the team but you also lose something by dropping our alternatives.

I thought he had a blinder today. He is clearly a really talented player, his work rate pressed Liverpool back and made them change the way they built their attacks because they knew they couldn't pass it out from the back all the time.

The finishing will come with time. It doesn't help that he's so in and out of the team but he'll only get better with the guys he's training with. By the time RVP is finished here Danny will be ready to step in and take over.

True.

Welbeck did a very good job today. The goal scoring will come. People started doubting Chicha after the second season.

Not slating him. He just needs to work on his composure an awful lot. Brilliant in the build up to goals and moves, but if it's up to him to finish the move or make the final key pass, I'm not confident.

It is fecking stupid.

But hey, he gets a start in one of our biggest games of the season, does a great job and Neville (a very experianced pro) gives him man of the match.

But nooooooooo, he should still feck off on loan and has no future if he doesn't change

He was good, no way was he MOTM though. He is a very defensive forward which is why I wanted him to play today.

His approach play is very good. He has no end product though, whether that is a final shot or final pass. These things can come with age and game time though.

Very happy with him, could be a big game player for us with his work rate ala Park.

"Defensive forward"

Jesus christ, sometimes the mind boggles.

Aye, I was one of those backing him to start ahead of Hernandez because he brings a lot more. That said, he really needs to improve in the box.

We didn't because Sir Alex Ferguson (remember him?) obviously wanted what Welbeck offers. Gary Neville (remember him?) gives Welbeck man of the match for what he offered.

lunchforthesky says they are both wrong.

No disrespect, but who do you think is right there?

End product actually matters you know.

Van Persie barely touched the ball but he scored once, assisted another and almost scored twice with shots that were on target and tested Reina and as such he was better than Welbeck today by a distance.

So nothing else matters?

Football isn't only about scoring goals, there are other ways of contributing you know. Welbeck was involved in both goals as well by the way.

He impressed me quite a bit today, pleasantly surprised by his improvement on the last time I saw him play, where he played very well too. I'm quite a big Welbeck fan, so to see him do so well today is a good feeling.
He was hard working, defended well, linked up well and was generally troublesome to the Liverpool defense at times.

The goals and more importantly the clinical experience in front of goal will come with time.

Nothing defensive about the movement to create space for RVP on the first goal (or the link-play) and he won the free-kick for our 2nd where Skrtel should have been sent off IMO.

I know he's young and still learning, but Danny is going to have to add some composure to his game to really enter the next level. He looks good on the ball when he's out wide and doing often-needless drag-backs and such, but he lacks the ruthlessness of a top finisher. He gave the ball away countless times today trying to take on one too many men, which was a shame as he'd done everything else well. Even simple passes like the one he tried to play to Rafael in the second-half (in the move when the ball broke to Kagawa, who forced a good save from Reina) were lacklustre and lacked conviction.

To sum up his afternoon, yes he worked hard, but I can't help but feel that van Persie would have gobbled up those two first-half chances he squandered. This cannot be ignored when assessing his performance today.

But you no doubt think Jamie Redknapp says a whole bunch of retarded shit all the time right, even though he too was an excellent football player in his day?

Excellent today - finishing and final ball could certainly do with some work but he's such a handful and spreads the game so well with his deep runs and speed.

10/10 for work rate. Chased everything and made good runs in behind that caused them problems. Link up play was good, not great. Finishing and play once in the box was poor.

Full marks for comparing Jamie Redknapp and Sir Alex.

Feel free to find the post where I said Welbeck played badly or is shit/needs to go on loan etc.. Obviously you won't because I've never said that.

He was just never MOTM today.

I said 'main attribute'. Do you prefer the term 'deep lying forward in a support role'? I can use that if you like.

Fantastic again today.

Anyone that says otherwise/doesn't rate him, is a moron.

Excellent today, great to see Fergie believe in him.

When we were on top is the key. We would never play that good with Hernandez in team. I'm not slating his allround play, since he improved much this year, but in that department Welbeck is on another planet to him. Same as Hernandez is on end product.

Hard working display from him today, he worked up and down the wing in the second half and tracked inside when required in the first. He lacked in front of goal again but with time hopefully that will come.

"Defensive forward"

Jesus christ, sometimes the mind boggles.

I guess its like the reverse winger.

By that I mean total bollocks obviously.

Without Rooney and with kagawa on the wing , in the fist half especially, where we have 2 v 3 centrally, he was the link with the midfield, the fact that Carrick/Cleverly with Wellbeck comfortably, and as comfortably as Ive seen our midfield in the last 2 years, brushed aside Lucas/gerrard and allen suggests he did it very well.

he wouldnt perhaps be my pick for man of the match, but I'm watching it on TV, I cant see the whole pitch all the time to see what hes doing off the ball, Neville can, and I dare say if Neville thinks he was that good overall, he probably was.

That sums him up - if his work-rate had been just slightly less, he would never have a career at United. But it's his work-rate and overall play that makes it possible to start against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

:lol::lol::lol:

Just had to have a quick laugh at that.

Full marks for comparing Jamie Redknapp and Sir Alex.

The point is it's that being an ex-pro doesn't prevent you from having incorrect/bizzare opinions on football. Appeal to authority and all that.

We don't know what SAF actually thinks about Welbeck's performance today. Once again feel free to remember I've never said Welbeck was poor today, but end product is massively important and Welbeck for all his good play outside the box made a mess of a lot of good opportunities today.

Does anyone else get the same feeling when Welbeck has the ball in scoring positions ? I mean a feeling of no expectancy of anything remotely dangerous happening
