Daniel James | Officially Signs

That's not how football works. When you buy players, you're obligated to play them. It really depends on the the way the contracts are written up. Greenwood has been tearing up the U23s and reserves but he's still yet to make a proper debut. Are you saying that Lukaku, Lingard, Martial and Rashford have been substantially better than Greenwood to start off every game this past season?
What? No you're not. Look at Chelsea and their 7262682 players out on loan.

So the Caf wants young, hungry, homegrown talent, United go on to (almost) sign one, Caf is up in arms as he isn't good enough and not ready for first team action????!!!
Great signing, really don't see much of a downside to this, he is a cracking player with enormous potential.

He's ahead of James sure. James is a bit of an unknown quantity at this point. However the talking up of Martial on here should stop. He's on his second contract, but he still isn't the player we thought he would be for us. He's not brilliant as Devilish claims. Coming up with some silly goals and assists stats doesn't change that.

that was my point and why I criticised that post. Thanks for agreeing with me.

I can't care less if we keep Martial or not. Honestly, I would let him go at this point as laziness can't be tolerated at this level. However we shouldn't replace him with James. That would be silly from our part and unfair on the player. If we bring in James then we should see him as a squad player (and we should let squad players go to make him some space). That's his level, at least for the time being.

I'm in for a transfer window full of young players. The club needs to be rejuvenated.

He was next to harder working talented players like Kante and Matuidi. At United it's just 1, Ander

He was far less complacent as well. If he did those antics with Juventus then either Vidal or Chiellini would have ripped his head off. Juventus has standards that needs to be reached, something the current United doesn't have.

Facts are that United is one of the least hardworking teams in the EPL. Surely that's not down to just Pogba and Martial. Therefore the question comes natural. If the likes of Rojo, Young, Jones, Shaw and co can't do the running then wtf they provide to this team?

I highly doubt this kid is being bought as an undisputed first team player. Him plus another established winger is good business though

This kid is a genuine winger with searing pace and is good with both feet. As a winger he would be our best wide player if he lives upto his potential. Rashford and Martial are not wingers.

I’m happy to sign young talent but the rumours are we’re signing 4-5 players, it’s not convincing if he takes one of these spots.

We’re not in a position to take punts on players, we need improvements to our starting 11.

I totally disagree with your second point . We are lacking an entire squad not just key players. 15m buys you what nowadays? Pogba's left elbow?

We should be collecting promising young talent when they can be acquired for a decent price, especially when they have proven themselves In England or at the international level. Maybe they work out and start for years, maybe they become a decent squad player or maybe we just sell them to West Brom for 8 million in a few years.

Chris Snalling is a good example of this. Fergie seemed to randomly pluck him from Fulham out of the blue for around 7 million quid. Maybe he shouldn't have started as many games as he has, but even his critics can't complain about that deal.

We have absolutely no obligation to play anyone, it all comes down to the performances of each player. People seem to overrate the PL reserves league, most players that have been fantastic for our U18 and U23 teams have turned out to be mediocre footballers. Rashford is an absolutely extraordinary talent but still needs to develop to become a world class player, and he is four years older than Greenwood. We have to be patient and let Greenwood develop properly before he is thrown into competetive games at the highest level.

Unfortunately, Rashford wasn't really uprooting trees in the reserves. He got a lucky break because of the injuries and he took his chances well in the early years. However, Rashford's game hasn't really improved. He's improved physically but not mentally. Greenwood is a far talented player than Rashford if you are to go by what the scouts say or even the statistics. He's compared to Pogba in terms of talent..... fair enough.... there may not be a contract as such but when a manager buys you, he needs to justify his purchase by playing that player. Why do you think Sarri keeps sticking with Jorginho when the whole world has been crying out for Kante to be returned to his original DM position. The moment he sticks Jorginho on the bench, he loses his credibility in front of the board when it comes to transfers and that's exactly what happened with Jose. He made Ed buy Lindelof and Bailly and Jose asked for two more CBs as he deemed them crap. I'm a firm believer that if you're good enough, you're old enough. Greenwood is good enough. He should at the very least been given minutes in the lesser cup games which he wasn't.

What is wrong with you? Not every impact player needs to be a Sanchez and not every player with potential needs to be James. I'm not in support of spending money on players who hasn't proven or shown signs of making it big. We have way too many attacking players who are very young at the moment. We should be looking for 24/25 year olds to maintain a balance. Carrasco and Pepe would be my considerations.

There’s nothing wrong with me.

I agree that a balanced approach is what is needed but my point is chasing the immediate impact player hasn’t exactly worked out in recent years.

Nothing wrong with investing in youth and potential and nurturing their talent. It’s what we used to do under Fergie all the time and reaped the rewards.

McTominay has got games ahead of Fred.

If James is shit we won't be playing him for the sake of it.

Swansea forum posters saying there’s a chance he could be going back on loan to them.
Wouldn't make sense to send him back to the championship. I doubt he'd sign for us if he was gonna go back to Swansea on loan. I expect to see him on tour if we sign him.

I'm not sure what is exciting about this kid, he's super fast but I don't see much else in the videos posted, and we are in desperate need of some proven quality, we start unproven players up top every week and they are a shit show, and if we want to use more unproven players we have 3 of them from the academy that are waiting in the wings every week to get a chance.

We should wait for someone else in the EPL to sign him, then sign him the next year for 50m

Who was the last young player signed from the Championship by a top side?

Brave move from Man United, I wish more big clubs would take a chance like this.

Shame the guy decided to play for Wales though.

I know nothing of the guy. That said, I’d prefer this type of signing to that of Dybala or Bale for 80,90,100M

Anyone see Ole quotes. I can't post as newbie but on sky sports app, he said he wants to follow Rooney and Ronaldo transfer model, young exciting players that will be at Utd for long time and players who will excite fans.

Young, pacey wide player, from Wales and can play either side and on only £15m... fine with me. Likely will come in as a squad player and then let's see how much potential he has. Better to sub him on, am actual winger with pace, compared to shit like Sanchez these days...

Well Alli came from lower than the Championship and he did ok.

I honestly think it's far from brave though, just a smart punt. If he's works out? Brilliant. If not? We can probably get most of the fee back when we sell him

I don't need to.... Chelsea do prove my point.... Jorginho is played ahead of Loftus Cheek when the latter has been much better. Willian and Pedro have been played ahead of Hudson Odoi for the most part.
Keep going...

Fergie only invested in youth when he was absolutely sure that the player he's was getting was destined to excel. However he got those wrong a lot as well. Rooney, Ronaldo to name a few were gems.

Smalling, Jones, Bebe, Obertan were all bought when they were very young and you can tell how much they've improved their game since then.

Shaw? One of our best dribblers and joint 2nd most throughballs with Mata. Plus a very good defender compared to most Leftbacks. The rest sure. But if you have luxury players who dont do the job without the ball then it creates a much bigger job for the hard workers to do.

So he didn't know that every youth player he was signing were destined to excel.

There's a risk with every young player with potential.

Redcafe is fun.

“We need to start signing these types of players before other clubs sign them up and he’s worth double the price a couple of years later”

United make a bid...

“Why the feck are we going for these players and not the players that are now worth quadruple the price?!?”
I suppose the players people think we should be signing are those that have proved they can hack it in the PL, but are still sufficiently under the radar that they won’t attract a huge fee (Robertson being an example). We seem to wait until everybody rates them and their price tag has inflated (Shaw).

It’s all very well mocking people for being negative about our signings but our abysmal record over recent years doesn’t leave much cause for optimism. That said, I’d rather take a cheap punt on an unproven youngster than have any more Sanchezes.
