If we sign him I could see him playing more games in the Europa League than in the Prem. Would be a brilliant way to blood youngsters who haven't taken part in big(ish) European competitions.

We should wait for someone else in the EPL to sign him, then sign him the next year for 50m

Sarcasm duly noted, but there's nothing to suggest he's some amazing prospect, he's a 21 year old who's only played lower level football and has a couple of caps, nearly every "highlight" of him is just him running really fast, I don't see much else there and we already have 3 of our own kids that we could give game time to instead of wasting a signing on a championship player. He looks like a the dated English kick and run merchant, he plays the same way as Rashford on the wing.

If they're better than him, they will play ahead of him.

I wonder what he is like when the opposition is in a low block, what are his qualities then? Apart from speed, what can he bring to the game?

I remember seeing Dalot videos and that he could cross balls and and go past people, he has shown none of that this season. Just going to have to judge him when you see him.

So he didn't know that every youth player he was signing were destined to excel.

There's a risk with every young player with potential.

There's risk in every decision you make. When Fergie bought Smalling, Jones, Obertan and Bebe, he could afford to go wrong as they weren't brought in to feature in the first 11 immediately. We lack a genuine RW at the moment and to get James, whose completely unknown to the PL is way too big a risk to take at this point. It's not even about the money. It's about accumulation of deadwood and also we lose yet another window to strengthen that position with someone who will genuinely make a difference. If we get James and it doesn't workout for a season, we are expected to give him another season to chalk the first season down to time taken to settle. That would mean for two years, we will probably not buy another winger or continue to persist with Lingard.

Only he can use his left just as good as his right. We don't have anyone who can do that and haven't for a while. Everyone is too dependent on their good foot...

Low cost, fast as ****, can play on both sides and up top, decent crossing if i recall correctly.

If he does not work out, he can easily be shifted for the same price, or loaned out for a season.

Seems a really odd signing for a top team. His main ability is his top speed, he'd be a big asset to a counter attacking/bottom half side who get space to run into. Watched him a few times and his actual ability has not impressed me. Can't see him doing well in a team with aspirations to be possession based.

Shaw? One of our best dribblers and joint 2nd most throughballs with Mata. Plus a very good defender compared to most Leftbacks. The rest sure. But if you have luxury players who dont do the job without the ball then it creates a much bigger job for the hard workers to do.

I must be seeing a different Shaw. The one I've been seeing is a fat slob whose mistakes costed us points against Huddersfield and Shitty. If he ever becomes available I seriously doubt the likes of Real or Juventus would be in for him.

Honestly id love to see a clean sweep. Id give Pogba a second chance if he wants to remain but I wouldn't be bothered too much if he leaves as long as we can find adequate replacement

Not really some exciting news. What is his attributes?

Good thing that ain't us :p

Who was the last young player signed from the Championship by a top side?

Brave move from Man United, I wish more big clubs would take a chance like this.

Shame the guy decided to play for Wales though.

Dele Ali from league one though.

Ball control is not impressive, he doesn't look anything special at the moment. But a young Bernardo Silva didn't look anything special to me and look at him now.

This James kid is fast as a mfecker though.

Don't think this is a brave move. It's a punt signing, rumor is that he might be loaned back. At best he will be a back up player and if he improves, he will play more.

Anyways not a top side but Maddison was a good pick by Leicester.

I suppose the players people think we should be signing are those that have proved they can hack it in the PL, but are still sufficiently under the radar that they won’t attract a huge fee (Robertson being an example). We seem to wait until everybody rates them and their price tag has inflated (Shaw).

It’s all very well mocking people for being negative about our signings but our abysmal record over recent years doesn’t leave much cause for optimism. That said, I’d rather take a cheap punt on an unproven youngster than have any more Sanchezes.

It would probably have looked better if you'd said Alexises, oops maybe not....

Fergie only invested in youth when he was absolutely sure that the player he's was getting was destined to excel. However he got those wrong a lot as well. Rooney, Ronaldo to name a few were gems.

Smalling, Jones, Bebe, Obertan were all bought when they were very young and you can tell how much they've improved their game since then.

Yes not every signing will work out, youth or finished article. That's the game. I say we trust the new management team to make these calls.

I personally am glad to see us interested in a young, fast (apparently right sided?) winger who isn't costing £50+ million. If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out but writing off this potential signing before he's even kicked a ball isn't fair.

Not nessicarily, Greenwood should have had a chance weeks ago given how shite Rashford, Martial and Lukaku have been, but he's not been given a sniff, it took until last week for Chong to get a chance to play instead of the aforementioned 3, and I can't recall the last time Gomes got on the pitch for us. I see no point in stacking up more unproven kids when we have 3 there waiting.

Only he can use his left just as good as his right. We don't have anyone who can do that and haven't for a while. Everyone is too dependent on their good foot...

That's pretty irrelevant if those feet are attached to a run of the mill kick and rush winger, I'd rather have a technically superb skillful winger who had a predominant foot.

Which 23 year old and younger British players would Juventus and Real be battling it out for? Only a couple and no leftbacks

Fat slob? I bet you weigh more than he does. He's just won 2 awards for his work this season.

I honestly don't see it working out in the PL. I would love to be proven wrong though.

Wondering whether we should put him on the Chelsea development plan if we get him, or chuck him in immediately.

Encouraging signs, at least shows the scouting set up is doing some work.
You think ?
We have been signing players other clubs have been scouting for months- City with Fred, Leeds with James.

Here’s what our scouts do - they call up the Leeds scouts - hey Harry, how’s it going? What’s happening at Leeds? I hear you guys are scouting this kid Daniel James, so what do you guys think of him? Pretty good eh, great, good enough for me..oh and hey, you don’t have to scout him anymore, you don’t have to go to the matches to watch the lad play because we are signing him. Thanks Harry, cheers.

Calls Woody - hey Mr Woodward, Chief Scout here, yeah we extensively scouted that boy you wanted us to look at, he’s pretty good, sign him up

That's exactly what I mean. And also we need leaders in the team. It's crazy how we've got no leaders in the team at all.

They are not the only one scouting players and it's not exclusive scouting club. Every player is scouted by most clubs, whether they make a move or not depends on the recruitment team.

Dunno. I thought everyone appreciate honest hard work. If 'lazy' pogba was available they would be all over him

Ps I am not an EPL professional. However if I committed such mistakes with my company I'd risk the sack rather then get awarded

It was a joke :(

I totally disagree with your second point . We are lacking an entire squad not just key players. 15m buys you what nowadays? Pogba's left elbow?

We should be collecting promising young talent when they can be acquired for a decent price, especially when they have proven themselves In England or at the international level. Maybe they work out and start for years, maybe they become a decent squad player or maybe we just sell them to West Brom for 8 million in a few years.

Chris Snalling is a good example of this. Fergie seemed to randomly pluck him from Fulham out of the blue for around 7 million quid. Maybe he shouldn't have started as many games as he has, but even his critics can't complain about that deal.

Well the problem is we still need first choice attackers so if James is a squad player the starting 11 isn’t being improved.

If he’s just an extra option and doesn’t count as one if the rumoured 5 new signings then great but if he’s the answer to our attacking troubles then I’m obviously worried.

I’ll wait until the summer is over, only time will tell.

You think if we signed lower end PL players those same crazies would be in any way placated? Who are all these bargain youngsters playing in the PL we should sign?

Just go and support another side. What absolute horseshit.
