Well, there's the question. Are they good enough right now? Chong was fine against Huddersfield but not great. He didn't really do anything. Greenwood has been injured on and off and Gomes, while I think he's very good, is absolutely tiny and would get bullied in the league at his age. They may be great prospects but that doesn't make them better than our first team players.

The reaction to the news of us being for this kid makes me wonder why we even bother trying to sign anyone tbh.
And the flip side the fans saying he's not good enough will the be moaning at how shit our recruitment is and we let another young talent join a rival.

People who say that he would be better for a lower level team who play on the counter. How many times have we seen our players take the ball from our half, run as fast as they can and then eventually the opposition catches up to them. Our players don't play properly on counter, the only speed merchant in our team is Rashford and even he doesn't use his pace properly.
It's good if this lad is a pace merchant, at least we would have a better chance on the counter.

De Gea made mistakes and still won the award time after time. Its not an award for "perfect player". Its an award for best player. The players and the fans both agreed, something that doesnt always happen.
Pogba is fine if he's the only one who is a bit of a luxury. That requires all the other talented players to be working hard. I dont think that comes close to being true of United.
I'd say only Ander, Rashford and Shaw could claim that they worked really hard. Smalling was better last season, Martial and Lukaku are 2 more players who have a questionable workrate. Lingard goes invisible but has done better tracking back this season and Mata is mostly average.

I'm excited about this one. Even though the only time i've seen him play was in the Wales-Slowakia game. He was very good there and their most dangerous player.

Not a proven player, but isn't it the United way? Young lads who have everything to prove and more experienced players around them. United biggest succeses were achieved that way.
Oh I’m not defending the crazies. Look at the abuse the last up and coming PL player we signed gets (Smalling). But other clubs do seem better at it than us.

Signing James for 15 mil Id say brilliant, it's archetypical fergie signing, a good player with lots of potential who'll likely feature in first team straight away and will likely only get better. Some posters moan regardless of who you sign, caf needs to get a grip.

I agree. If you have doubts about him making it you're in good company, everyone should have doubts about any young player, let alone one moving up a division to a big club (we're still a big club, right?
). However I prefer to focus on the positives of us doing a deal for a promising young player, one of which as you say is his speed that could improve our ability on the counter.I know it was your point and I never disagreed with that, I just didn't agree with how you were trying to get that point across. Agree with this post too. I don't think he'd be brought in as a starter. That's not to say he couldn't become one if he takes his chances.
Well according to distance covered Lingard is our most hardworking player although that doesn't say much as workrate need to be backed by talent. DDG has been by far our best player (apart from this year of course), Id give Pogba another year IF he wants to stay, if not he can feck off. Martial is lazy and we should get rid. Regarding Shaw, I struggle to name more then 7-8 good games from him in all his Man united career with us

You misunderstand my statement. My point is the championship produces loads of good players. Even those who like Maguire, Robertson, Brooks and Jota were 'nothing special' statistically at that level. Yet took the the EPL like ducks to water.
I would take that AS LONG as we get rid of squad players in that position.
In terms of front 6 options, we are probably looking at getting rid of (or expecting them to leave) Sanchez, Lukaku and Mata.
Leaves our attacking options as Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Greenwood, Chong/Gomes (probably only loans for those 2). Who knows if James will be good enough to start, but if he provides good competition for places then it still helps since we also need depth.

I dont understand why fans are in uproar about this? Surely it is better to sign a young talent who will want to prove his worth than a £80m signing with all the pressure and fail. To name a few: Di Maria, Sanchez.

I hope it happens. Maddison and Brooks did really well in the PL after being signed from the Championship, might as well try and get talented young players from there as well. Even he flops, you can probably ship him to a midtable club for 20m in a couple of years.
Squad player most probably. Could be worth a punt but won't change anything really for us.
Some people talk about pace as though it's a bad thing. It's the best quality for an attacker, especially a winger, to have. The attribute that defenders constantly say is the hardest thing for them to deal with and the one that can propel otherwise not the most gifted footballers into superstars. Martial has pace and is the only winger we've had in recent years that's been any good, Sane and Sterling at City, Mane and Salah at Liverpool... pace rules.
For everyone says he's suited to counter attacking because of his pace but Swansea is playing possession-based with high pressing, Leed also plays that style under Bielsa, they desperately want Daniel James.
Daniel James is capable of playing in possession based and counter-attacking. I've seen many good chances created from Pogba were due to Rashford's movement but very few for Martial. That's why I think Daniel James will improve us on the left flank and working his ass off to press high and help Shaw, increasing Pogba's playmaker influence in the third final with James's movement.

Under Fergie we'd have pillaged Wolves, Everton and anyone else with players looking like they might break into the top 6 and couple play at a higher level. Now those players cost £50m - £70m so we're looking at the players THOSE teams would sign after we take their £70m rated players instead.
Not complaining but I think people should realise that signing's like this are a few seasons and lots of development away from being ready for top tier.

Yeah they’d cost world record fees these days. It’s going to be hard following that.
Signing players like this shows what type of football we're going to play next season. Klopp said they went to scout Salah at Roma and after the game he said "feck me he's fast, sign him".
