Dani Alves

Seriously, we were coming in with the right idea when we bought Shaw (buy him young, nurture him into a regular full-back for the next 10 years). So what's the purpose of buying someone of that age (Alves) knowing that he will eventually need to be replaced soon? I just don't get the interest in Dani Alves at the current stages of his career.

We can't have a team full of 19year olds who are not experienced at the top level and may struggle initially.

i would only want him here if he agreed to get rid of that little tuft of hair on top of his head, it looks ridiculous, looks as bad as ronaldos rugby ball shape haircut did

Get over it, he could have a cock shaved on his head and he would still be a brilliant signing, top player.

No, but the point remains that it's very much useless to sign Alves now, ask him to adapt to a new league at age 32, and hope that he can maintain Denis Irwin-type form until he's 35. I would rather see the money invested in a younger RB who will stay with us for a long time.

If Dani Alves was 3 years younger, I would be fine with signing him for 3 years. But signing him at age 32 is a no-no.

It's not unheard of that a player joins a new team and doesn't need to go through months and months of adaption. Sometimes it just clicks...and he's been one of the best in his position in my lifetime. On a free-transfer it's a no brainer if he's got the motivation to play for United and he wants to succeed in the Premier League. We could do with some experienced heads in defence, we lost a lot of winners in Rio, Vidic and Evra in one summer.

Yes a younger player definately the ideal option, but we also need to maintain quality. Remember we have to go for the title next season and not just UCL quali.
So if there are no players good enough at the level this summer, then signing Alves would be a good thing, and we can revisit the position again next summer.
At the moment I'm not seeing a great deal of RBs available on the market at the level we would require. We also have more pressing issues to sort out like CB and CM so getting an experienced player in at RB and sorting it long term next summer might be the best option

Neymar took a shit on Alves head as a goodbye present?

As Cassidy said, if there was a Luke Shaw equivalent RB out there I'm sure we'd buy younger, but there isn't so a proven RB like Alves as a stop gap might be our best case scenario.

At least Alves is mega going forward because defensively he is similar to the Evra of the last 3 years with us, these guys are magicians, they give the illusion of defence.

I wouldn't mind it at all, obviously just a stop gap signing, but he's on a free and we have a very inexperienced back line as it is. He's still a top right back, and there are currently no right backs who are good enough really so it makes sense to have a stop gap until one becomes available. Better then any other right back in the league at the moment anyways despite the age.

Having him and Shaw on both sides with their hairstyles and stuff might confuse opponents, especially if they see them before the game in their "regular" clothes. They'd complement each other, that's for sure.

I remember his game against City at Emptyhad this year, and he was phenomenal. Again, he was great against Paris and so against Bayern in Champions League.

I don’t understand why we judge his level on his age, because he’s 32. But the guy ‘can’ be free this summer and if he can give us 2 years, it would be a better option than Rafael or Valencia, and I’m not talking about recruiting Van der Wiel (only because he’s Dutch), Clyne who is good but not world class.

Alves is terrific since December and he’s not playing the Copa America. He can have a great summer and come with us…. He would improve our game massively in the right side. If we can partner him with Mata or Di Maria and protected by a strong CB + Carrick, I think that we can be good.

I really hope he will sign with us. It would be very smart and fixing an issue with an instant solution.

The RB market can't really look any worse in 2017 than it does now. Darmian, Clyne and Coleman seem like the only other full-time RBs available and possibly good enough that I can think of and Bayern will probably sign an RB (Darmian) and Coleman would cost a lot for a guy who will be 27 as the season starts and is all about physical attributes, without any CL experience and just came off a mediocre season in which his team conceded the same amount of goals as 2 of the 3 relegated sides.

Alves now, a German or Spaniard or something in 2017!

Is this realistic, or is he just using us for a better deal at Barca?

Duncan Castles says he's turned P$G down...

I dont know whats going on, didnt he say somhting like Barca wouldnt recognise his worth? He seemed a bit upset...I dont know if this is just a tactic and he uses us, but it could go either way.

I'm sure we'll know more after the Champions League final in a few days.

Buying an ageing, past his best player, who's looking for one big final payout, doesn't sit too well with me.

I'd much rather buy young, talented players, who are hungry to prove themselves.

He is hardly past it. He's been great this season. Also don't we have the youngest squad in the league, we need some experience.

Would love Alves here, but even with this news I can't see it happening.

Well considering he is still the best right back in the world. I don't see how he is past it or what does that say about the others...

If we can get the best, lets do it.

If we're honest with ourselves there's no real right back out there in the market. I think signing Dani and keeping one eye open for the prospects out there would be shrewd business while he finishes here.

I'd be all for it if that happens and he's willing to shave his head.

That account (rafael Hernandez or whatever) is a huge Barca fan and posts pro-Barca bullsh*t virtually exclusively. Not sure he's ever been right about anything outside of sheer chance.

Not worth talking about anything he's the only source for.

What's so eccentric about Shaw ? He just has his hair to the side like every other teenager, Dani Alves has a fecking turd on his head and is tattooed from head to toe.

His hair isn't that bad when he tries, but he can be quite lazy at times with it:

As for his dressing style, you should google it.

The Caf has a fairly big faction of bootleg jean-wearing grandad's.

I can't see that image! And yeah I know he has a dodgy dress style, doesn't he! Still not half as bad as Dani Alves, he's the absolute worst.

Ah I see. It all makes sense now.

This would be such a non LvG type of player. A right back that does not defend but literally hugs a touch line and stays in the opposition third all game. Exactly the type of player LvG hates and quite frankly he is too old and seems to have a pretty shite attitude. We should stay well clear of this one.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this.
Yes, he's a good player, but he's an absolute ar$e of a man. I dislike players with his kind of attitude to the game (he's almost in the Ramos category).
Not the most forward thinking signing, if it happens.
But, he will be able to cross a ball better than Valencia has.......

I'm not sure he will sign an extension apparently he's really miffed at how they've treated him whether he's using it as an excuse to guilt barca but Barca seem adamant only giving him a rolling contract which he doesn't want so who knows, he said he will announce on Sunday where he's ended up,

I really hope it's to United.

Whilst I agree with you on current form he's the best RB in the world, he's had his best form in a Barca shirt this year quite honestly.

Absolute madness. Alves in 11/12 was far better than he is now. That said he'd still be a great signing and the idea that he's not an LvG type fullback is just silly given the fact he's played a winger at fullback all season with the primary focus of providing width and attacking impetus so that Mata can focus on other things. Alves would be a massive upgrade in a role he's perfectly suited to. It did seem like he was past his best last year and there's always the risk that he'll get a huge payday coming here and take his foot off the gas, and if so he'll be an expensive luxury signing, but we have the money and he's still an infinitely better player than Clyne.

We have to sign him!
