We have to sign him!

Haha I love that, he's clearly absolutely mental but what a character. That's probably the best way of using an escalator I've ever seen

With Barca signing Vidal (as Spanish press suggests), his departure looks more and more likely. Especially when we are surely offering him more money.

Am I the only one who doesn't want him? The theatrics between him and Di Maria will be so painful to see.
He hasn't been an excessive diver for a while. His hand gestures when things don't go his way can be vexing to watch.

Every team needs a complete wan*er, to annoy the opposition players and fans he can be our very own utter wan*er.

He's not going anywhere but I'll take him here if he does actually leave for some reason

The coverage before the game was talking about Alves and how much he loves the team (as in the players) but has lost a lot of love for the club itself, which is why he wants to leave. I don't know how much Sky Sports know about his position, but I'm sure if he was staying, he'd have re-signed by now. He's looked very happy on the pitch all season, including tonight obviously.

Wasn't he a bit pissed about the treatment of Abidal a couple of years ago?

What about the transfer ban?

Nothing. They can sign whoever they want, but they can't register them until January. And if they signed Vidal, who is seen as Alves' replacement, it's obvious that he will be given a huge amount of time - something for Alves to consider.

He's been excellent. Can't believe some (can't remember who) here said he's no better than Valencia

Seems like quite the character. He'd be great here. Doubt he'll come though, just using us to get a better contract with Barca.

“I have an offer from an Italian club, and it's possible that I will go there. I will evaluate the offers that I have received,' the 32-year-old told Sky Sport Italia. “Milan? It would be a pleasure to join them.”

Seems like he could be headed to Italy.

Italy would be good for him, he must be looking at it thinking wherever he goes is a step down so why not Italy.

Considering Milan have just been bought out for several hundred million too they've probably got some decent wages going too, so not a surprise.

I wonder which RB we'll sign if Alves stays/goes elsewhere. Maybe we'll revive our interest in Clyne or hopefully go for Darmian.

I miss Evra! Still a wonderful player and would be an upgrade on both Shaw and Blind currently.

He played well last night but you forget last season he was a liability defensively for us, he was fine going forward but we shipped too many chances and goals down his side because his positioning was whack.

It was the right time for him to move on.

Shows though, that he wasn't finished and maybe just needed a change. We really over worked him as well IMO. For a few years he was basically left back and left winger rolled into one. Juve seem to utilise him much better. He plays within himself rather than bombing in every direction.

He wouldn't really add much more than Valencia does now. A bit like when City signed Maicon a few years back.

I have which is why i can comfortably say he's no better than Valencia. This is clearly another case of people getting intoxicated by a known player who we can buy just because he's Dani Alves of the Barca glory years. Fact is he is 32 next year and we should be looking towards the future.

Who was it who said he was about as good as Valencia?

One foul on the edge of the box aside, absolute beast mode today. Easily the best fullback on the pitch.

Raoul did but I do agree with the sentiment that we should go for a younger and more promising FB. He did criminally underrate Alves, or overrate Valencia for that matter, though.

If there's one available I too think we should go for someone younger but not someone like Coleman like people have suggested. Rather one of the best of this generation than decent players. If we're getting in someone younger which would be ideal it should someone with proper top class potential.

He reminds me of Cafu towards his latter years at Milan. Still a good player, well because he was Cafu, but obviously not the right choice to move to a club like United. Same with Maicon moving to City after Inter. Alves would be in the same boat. What we really need is Dani Alves circa 2008, not Barca's scraps and a player who is on the cusp of being in serious decline.

Aleix Vidal is gonna be presented tomorrow as our new right back. Alves is pretty much gone as the board is not willing to pay. So we have like 4-5 months of depending on Montoya/Adriano on the right. Could be messy.

Barca are on the right track with this one. Clubs should have the scouting and research ability to know which player is going to rise to the next level in the near term, whereas transfer muppets on the internet gravitate to the few names they already know.

Yeah agreed, we should go for a young-ish FB who can be developed further and is malleable in line with LVG' tactics. Can't think of too many options though (Carvajal is touted about but I never really rated his defensive game - would prefer a more well-rounded FB myself) but I'm sure the club has their own short-list.

Alves is a nice player but should just be a stop-gap measure and a last resort at that - nothing to do with his quality but rather his age.

Might be a great stop gap if there are limited alternatives. My only issue with him would be motivation. He has pretty much nothing to prove and anywhere else will be a step down in his eyes.
