Why do people hate him so much, he really isn't as bad as people are making out, yes he isn't what he used to be but if we get him on a freebie what harm could it do.

Dani Alves confirms intention to leave Barcelona after rejecting new offer

The agent of Barcelona star Dani Alves has confirmed that the full-back has ended negotiations with the club after rejecting their latest offer.

The Brazilian, whose current contract will expire at the end of the season, has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.

Alves has been open about the possibility of leaving Camp Nou this summer following a seven-year spell, and it seems even more likely that an exit is imminent following his representative Dinorah Santana's latest update.

"This is the latest offering from Barcelona," ITV News quotes Santana as saying. "They told us that there will not be another. We do not accept what was proposed. The negotiations are over and we do not accept this latest offer of Barcelona."

Alves has won four La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies during his time with the Catalan giants.

I really wouldn't mind hm.. Would be great to have as a squad option and is great going forward which helps for all but the best teams, and has played in Barca for so long so won't have trouble adapting to us.

If we sign him it would be like City signing Maicon and further evidence of our transfer policy shifting towards big names on huge wages without long term considerations.

I'd say it's more evidence of how sparse the RB options are out there right now, I'm not a fan of Alves but the plan may be for him to buy us time to see what comes along.

Maicon has a typical Brazilian spell of having a 3 year career. He has never been as consistent as Dani Alves and not a comparison..

Alves had a longer career but him joining us wouldn't amount to much more than when Maicon joined City. He's too old and we should be looking at younger, emerging players - similar to when we brought Evra to OT. Mid twenties-ish types who are about to take their game to the next level.

You can't make an argument that someone will 'probably' be rubbish because he's old. Evra has gone on to join Juventus and has had a better season than our left backs we brought to replace him.

If we get 2 good years out of Alves that will do. We don't have to fix everything in one window.

Not for me tbh. Paris 1st class plane tickets already bought......

It's the timing of the signing though he's already in the twilight of his career and the only way is down especially for a full back. It's the kind of signing you expect a Qatari club to make to make not United. Disagree with you about Evra he's been his usual self like his last couple of seasons with a tendency to go AWOL defensively.

L'Equipe had an article last week saying Alves is not an option for PSG. They are one of the most reliable French football outlets so it doesn't seem like he's going there.

How many good seasons did Maicon have???

He came on the scene around 25-26. Was done by 29-30. But sure you can fill in the gaps.

He had two very good seasons with Monaco and at least 4 with Internazionale.

It's a signing that makes sense if LVG has high hopes for McNair.

Why spend £20-£30 million on a Clyne or Coleman when you could get Alves on a free now and nurture young Paddy into a replacment in a year or two's time.

I don't think he would be rubbish - just a player who is well past his prime, much as Maicon was slightly passed his prime when he joined City. Good players like the both of them can obviously still contribute in various ways, but as a general practice, we should be looking at younger players who can stay with us for 5-10 years or so.

People who are saying we should be looking at signing the next Alves, we have something pretty damn close sitting in our reserves in Raf.

"I didn't realise until about five years ago that Manchester had two teams. Of course Manchester United have been one of the most famous and successful clubs in Europe for many years, but I thought they were the only one"

Barcelona believe Dani Alves wants to stay at the Nou Camp, despite reports linking the Brazil right-back with a summer move to England.

Alves, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season and yet to agree a new deal with the Spanish leaders.

Alves, who has been heavily linked with Manchester United andLiverpool, has played more than 250 times for Barca.

"He is an important player who contributes a lot," said club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

"I hope he renews. We have asked him to and we're discussing it.

"I know he'd like to stay and Barca want him to stay."

Alves, signed from Sevilla in 2008, has made 40 appearances this season as the Catalan giants chase a league, Champions League and Copa Del Rey treble.

Barca are two points clear of arch-rivals Real Madrid with three matches left in the Spanish top flight.

Luis Enrique's side host German champions Bayern Munich, now managed by former Barca boss Pep Guardiola, in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

City rivals Atletico Madrid will be their opponents in the Spanish Cup final on 30 May.

Oh FFS.

Lol, BBC

31 and will want big money

However, if he can give us a similar return of matches (story says 40, same on Wiki) then he would be a good addition on that basis alone. Short term deal might work if there are no other options about (and there don't seem to be many at the moment)

Who was it who said he was about as good as Valencia?

One foul on the edge of the box aside, absolute beast mode today. Easily the best fullback on the pitch.

To be fair if he was playing against Robben or Ribery it would have been a different story.

Yeah anyone that wouldn't take him on that form tonight is mad. Hell Barca are mad for letting him leave and not trying to tie him down for 1 more year.

Just stated in Press conference that PSG aren't an option. Seems a strange thing to confirm.

Anyway, can't help but think this one is in the bag. would be good for a year until someone better becomes available.

He's a cnut. On many levels.

we need more cnuts in the team, on many levels.

He'd be a huge improvement going forward on Valencia.

Whilst I'm in no way shape or form saying Mata is anywhere near Messi as a player, could they link up similar to how Messi does with Alves? Or more, how he used to when he was mainly on the right. Messi (Mata), drifting infield playing as more of a #10, with Alves basically playing as a winger?

They should but the problem is he doesn't want 1 more year. He wants 3 at higher wages and he's already making 7m per season and is 32.

Supposedly the club has offered him 2+1 years at the same or lower salary.

At his peak he was 3 players rolled into 1, if we do get him he will make a massive difference but he won't be cheap.

How often do you face opposition on the same level as Robben in the premier league though?

There's only hazard and sanchez near his level. He would be completely fine if he came to us, I'd welcome him with open arms. Especially since it'll be on a freebie.

It will be so relieving seeing a full back that actually takes on his man and can put in a good number of assists and a few goals unlike valencia that makes overlapping runs and then just passes backward.

All those doubting us signing him I guarantee will forget all about it when he plays a few matches and shows how much we've missed a proper fullback.

Best signing for us to make atm on RB

Genuinley still looks like a class player that would improve us drastically going forward and one of the most experienced players you can dream off.

He'd be a free signing and I have no worries at all about his salary because we'll be clearing Flacao and probably also RVP off the wage bill this season so there will be money available to take his salary on board. Obviously he is already 31 so it won't be a long term solution more of a stop gap for the next 2-3 seasons but that is ok imo since there aren't any young talented rightbacks that I really see as a long term solution for us.

IF we get him it will be for free because his contract is over. Ofcourse his wages is another matter.

With all the positions we need to fill, I think securing an right back for free, albeit mega wages, is a good move.

He could thrive with a new challenge.
