Fabio and Rafael next season? Naah I don't think they'll feature before 2009/2010
Agreed. He or Miguel/Lahm will be signedI hate this myth here about Alves being a shit defender and how we will suffer at the back because of him.
He is a better attacker than a defender but doesn't mean he is a shit defender. He suits our style imo..
Me too. I want a German at UnitedBut I dont want us to sign him because he is a cnut and and another diver.
I hope we sign Lahm.
Yeah, I'm definitely not saying that Alves could be bad for us. It would be hard to see how that would be possible.
There is something to be said for Brown's height at the back, but Alves is tall too, and that would in fact make me less nervous than if we signed Lahm at right-back, meaning we'd have two short full-backs... though frankly with the attacking prowess of either Lahm or Alves the opposition would have a job stopping us from scoring a hatful so can't see it hurting us too much.
I guess I just hope we sign a top cock striker first and foremost.
Alves is a non-starter. Even if Sevilla decide to sell there is no way he would come to Manchester. Alves will - injuries permitting - find himself at one of the Spanish giants in the next few weeks. He is one of the best youngish stars in the game today. Leaving Spain would be a step down for him. It is all moot though. Alves announced weeks ago that he is determined to stay in La Liga. On that basis there is no way we’d make a bid for him.
bizarre statement.
It isn't bizarre at all. The Spanish giants can provide a vastly superior lifestyle - and only marginally less wages to us - a offer from England has little to offer. Especially in terms of European competition, our prospects of European sucess is pretty similar to Barcelona imo.
Alves coming to OT would mean learning a new language, developing an understanding our a new league, adapting to life at OT, never a easy task as well as settling in Chesire which means a Brazilian getting a serious lack of sun on his back to boot.
But Alves soundings about the importance of securing financial security for his family could swing in our favour given the huge wages we are now paying for our "stars".
I´d rather see us going forward than defend. Always have and always will. We did get a good result in Barca but I can´t say I was very proud of the way we performed. We are Manchester United and shouldn´t be afraid of noone. It´s easy to say but I do believe playing the United way is more important than winning trophies. 1999 was perfect to me, winning it all in style. Still very proud of our team, we do play it the right way 99% of the time. Wouldn´t mind getting rid of that 1 % of Liverpool-playing-style though
No, I don't want more right backs.
none of what you said implies a 'step down'. not in economic terms, not in footballing terms...
like i said, bizarre.
I hope we sign Lahm.
He's going to Barcelona.
He's going to Barcelona.
How does Lahm compare to Alves offensively?
MADRID, June 7 (Reuters) - Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Brazil fullback Daniel Alves from Sevilla, Spanish media reported on Saturday.
The 25-year-old international is set to move on a four-year contract for a fee of 29.5 million euros ($46.04 million), rising to 36 million euros depending on appearances and results.
30m for a right back, fecking hell!
Interviewed by Sid Lowe in the Guardian today, good to see he has a sense of humour - I quote:
Sid Lowe: So, who is your favourite English football team?
Dani Alves: [In English] Is a good question … in this moment Manchester …
SL: You mean City, right?
DA: That's the one. Hahahaha! No. Manchester United.

I would prefer to sign a player to cover a role we actually need. For example a creative midfielder to play near the area and feed our strike force.
besides, i don't tolerate his actitude at all.
He is often the highest & widest Barca player, he's not a fullback in any conventional sense - he hardly defends at all.Alves is good enough in the last third to be one of the best wingers in the world. Being Brazilian gives him the excuse to play as a fullback - where he has very little talent. There are times when Alves sets up multiple goals per match - and he does it because he completely neglects defending..
Well he's finally agreed a new deal. It was bound to happen eventually and Barca are not going to lose him now.
