Dan "The Gardener" Ashworth Has Left | Venit, vidit, non vicit

Thing is, this puts a stain on the role. It may put off potential suitors to the role and put us in a worse position

Dan Ashworth has looked ill whenever i've seen him in the stand, looks to have lost a lot of weight. Maybe the decision was mutual, i'm not sure. Seems odd to get rid of someone so soon, the summer signings haven't really been bad except for maybe Zirkzee

Wasn't Ashworth one of the people pushing for Ten Hag to be kept? I read that Ratcliffe disagreed with that. Now that the season is falling apart due to our poor start under Ten Hag, Ratcliffe has decided to boot Ashworth. He probably stuck his neck out for Ten Hag and it didn't work, factor in the almost £20m spent to sack him.
I make you right!!!

This was my first thought too. Always got the impression that Wilcox was the one pushing to get rid of ten Hag.

This sounds too fast to be about performance.

Sounds way more like he disagreed once too often with Ratcliffe or Brailsford. I hope not, because I'm not seeing much future in Ratcliffe declaring himself supreme leader.

He's a detached billionaire with a documented history of acting like a spoilt baby, who's just bought control of the football club he supported as a child.

It might be down to something else but honestly I don't know what people expect or expected from Sir Jim Ratcliffe other than him acting like Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

You wouldn't put Elon Musk in charge of a social media platform and then be surprised when he treats it like his personal toy. This really isn't that different.

The big masterplan everyone assumed the Ashworth appointment was pivotal to really doesn't exist. You only have to listen to the garbage Ratcliffe comes out with to realise that..

We spent more time chasing him than he spent employed by the club. This is very strange.

Why does it mean that? Perhaps he's really unhappy about the ownership meddling in his work.

Whatever the case, it doesn't reflect well on the club. They paid 2-3m for him and he's gone after 5 months. Did they do their proper research on him or what? How can the relationship sour after 5 months?
Not sure the club, or ownership really care how it looks, as long as they make the right calls.
If they feel they've made a mistake then why can't they rectify it quickly?

It can’t be about recruitment. Honestly our recruitment this summer doesn’t even look that bad anyway minus possibly Zirkzee.
Plus it's too soon to judge. I don't see it with Zirkzee either but he's not been so bad you sack someone for buying a slightly overpriced and mediocre back up player. A signing like Antony is probably a stackable offence, but even with him, you don't make that conclusion after a few months.

Likely over summer transfer window? ETH extension, Zirzkee, De ligt, and unnecessary extension of Bruno contract, if he had a great hand in these decisions then only a deserved sacking.

Give it Giggsy till the end of the season

Absolutely bizarre story to wake up to on a Sunday morning. We wanted him for so long and he’s barely had a chance at the job so seems unfair to pass judgement right now. I’m guessing that Ratcliffe is looking at the money wasted on ETH and Zirkzee and isn’t too happy. Still an extremely ruthless decision from the club.

Might be more information to come out of this yet mind.

In the interview that came out yesterday from Sir Jim he did say there were still big changes to be made, this maybe was one of those.

I wonder if this is a power move from berrada. Wilcox is his man, Ashworth wasn't.

Maybe we give Wilcox a promotion or ...we hire Begiristain?

Does the social media platform work? Is it defunct and showing signs of downward trajectory? Elon and X isn't what you think it is regardless of his personal views, X is better than it's ever been. Now to Sir Jim, you call him detached but yet wanted a structure put in place so not one single owner made the decisions. Isn't him being more detached what you wanted? He did what you all wanted and you're still complaining. It was never going to be smooth or without issues.

Was wondering what was his role to fair, because Berrada and Wilcox were getting the credit for the work you would usually expect from the sporting director. He probably was not actually getting the chance to do his job.

And Wilcox is Berrada's man, always found it odd that the CEO brought in someone who he has a previous working relationship with before the DOF even stepped in. Couple that with how the decision to keep Ten Hag backfired and how the signings haven't helped the club progress at all you could start to see the case for his dismissal but still it would be harsh imo.

We are just an absolute shambles from top to bottom. Ineos proving to be every bit as incompetent as the Glazers.

Hard to see how the current situation improves.
