Dan "The Gardener" Ashworth Has Left | Venit, vidit, non vicit

Jesus…….now what the feck has gone on?

We are just banter central

WTF? Hasn’t he only just joined a few months ago? It doesn’t make any sense at all

Saw something yesterday that he walked straight out after the game and ignored people on the way.

Quite ridiculous that such a high profile appointment could turn sour so quickly. Must be more to it than whatever work he's done so far.

Obviously more details will come out over time, but i reckon this has a lot to do with targets he's recommended in the summer that have proven to be yet more expensive mistakes ...*cough cough Zirkzee, De Ligt, cough cough*

So I've double checked that's actually on the Athletic website because it's so hilariously bad I couldn't believe it was true.

After all the drama to get him from Newcastle. I'm actually laughing.

The compensation fee to Newcastle stood at between £2m to £3m, a figure that is notable when set against the reported £1.5m in raised revenues from United hiking ticket prices for the rest of this season.
Great stuff

Wtf. Just when I thought we were on our way to being a serious club again.

Was it because Zirkzee didn’t deliver off the bench? Or because Yoro has lost 2 headers yesterday? There should be a reason

Best in class they said. Clearly something significant has gone wrong and one or both parties weren't happy. A part of me thinks Ashworth was not happy in his role and wanted to quit (i.e. too much influence from SJR or SJR trying to tell him how things should be run from a football perspective).

I don't think the club get rid because they weren't happy with signing Zirkzee and De Ligt or keeping ETH too long.

I don't think he was responsible for those at all though

Well you’re wrong because Whitwell has said that is was Jim that made the call to sack him, no idea why but it doesn’t seem like it was Ashworth himself that wanted to leave.

After all the waiting around we go and bin him off after 5 minutes. We’re just shit at everything aren’t we?
This is ridiculous if you consider how long we waited for him and that we paid for his gardening leave to be shortened.

All major decisions during the summer was kept on ice until he joined, and now this?

Also DOF is supposed to provide continuity because they are a “long term” appointment compared to a manager but here we are with DOF staying less than a year.

This is a total mess up

We’re doomed, officially. Ineos don’t have a clue, clearly. We waited for this guy and paid a severance, so sure were we that he was “best in class”

The only way this makes sense is if he’s done something to bring the company in to disrepute

Newcastle fans will be absolutely wetting themselves at this news, this is the major trophy that has eluded them for so long.

This is weird. After all the waiting and then negotiating with Newcastle to get him in, it doesn’t make sense that he would be judged as not up to the task in such a short space of time.

I’m inclined to think this might be for personal reasons, whether on Ashworth’s side or big Jim

Hmm, there will be a PR game here as well. United won't want to make it look like he was unhappy and he won't want to make it seem like he was sacked.

I can see Ashworth not being happy with how SJR talks in the media. You don't hear anything with most other owners but he's there chatting away his thoughts.

It has been reported that SJR has had strong views on the football side of things, but has said he will leave it to the football people and perhaps that relationship got strained. It's one thing to say you're in charge but if the boss is always questioning and suggesting things that he is no expert on that may just be a bad working relationship for both.

I'm done with football. This club just bores me to tears on and off the field.

You mean, one of them fecked another one’s niece or something of this sort?

Maybe they aren't convinced by his recommendations for the summer, coupled with players he's already recommended.. you just don't know, but recruitment has to be pretty much perfect now and it was basically his entire role right?
There were murmurings at Newcastle that his influence waned over time, and i think we all just ignored at the time because we were excited

I don't get why people are having a go at the club here, if something isn't working or a party isn't happy then ties need to be severed, which is what's happened here.
Fans have been crying out for ruthless leadership, now we have it the fans are complaining about it.... couldn't make it up!!

So we paid compensation money and we waited for long to fill the post for what exactly? 5 months? WTF are INEOS doing?

Because the sample size of his performance isn't long enough to make a sound decision.

Can we ever just go a fecking month without some form of soap opera drama?

What it must be like to follow a club that just gets on with shit and runs smoothly?

With the way things are going these days, for all you know there might be allegations of some sort on the way  I joke, but with the way things have gone in the last few years, you never can tell.

It’s a strange one all around. I hope someone with some insight breaks something before too long.
