I can't see Zirkzee being a significant enough reason to sack him.

ETH handling, certainly can be a reason. He might have been the one to instigate said review and put an emphasis on keeping ETH, even though they were ready to sack him despite the FA Cup win.

Owner wasn't feeling this recruitment worked out for one reason or another. He opted to not commit a sunken cost fallacy.

Ashworth's whole FA "England DNA" had a funky smell to it at club level but did good for the NT over the years on a philosophical direction. He seem a good structural exec but doesn't come across as an uncoverer of talent, we need a hard mode 'player analyst' as DOF that can find us the diamonds in the rough.
 
There’s no way he agrees to mutual consent unless they had something to sack him for

I agree, I can only imagine it's a combination of the keeping ETH decision, an reflection of summer recruitment.

The only weird thing about judging the summer, is only Zhrikzee so far I'd class as a "miss". The other issues were we need to move more players out and sign a few more.

I hope (but also doubt), they see someone in the market they feel will be a better fit for the role.

How so? The Glazers turned over the running of the club to Ed and allowed him to degrade the stadium and waste multi millions on sub standard players.
I much prefer taking the if there’s an issue, making quick decisive action.
 
Oh dear. All this chasing him for months to bin him off like that. Seems like a spontaneous decision than a planned one.
