Dan "The Gardener" Ashworth Has Left | Venit, vidit, non vicit

If you're going to act like that, then don't hire "the best in class" and promote it like it's the best decision ever made. So, if Amorim doesn't work, he's going to fire Berrada too?
I mean that isnt the answer.

This is how business works, you bring in good people and empower then, you then judge the outcomes. If they do well you promote them, if they underperform you move them on.

This isn't a person working on the checkout where they just need more training. You are bringing in what should be the best of the best. Deliver or go.

I'm guessing he didn't want Amorim and the 3 - 4 - 3 (3 - 5 - 2) nonsense. We could be looking back and saying he was "right". It'll be so us. "Mourinho was right", "Rangnick was right" etc.

From what im hearing on the grapevine, INEOS are really displeased with the recruitment (Zirkzee especially) but he apparently played a major part in ETH being retained in the summer which has proven to be a catastrophic decision. I am hearing Wilcox's head may be on the block too shortly...Jim is pished.

It was no secret Ashworth was fond of Southgate. I wonder if there was a power struggle between him and Omar, which he lost. So he ended up leaving.

Or he sent some dick pics to some staff.

Surely you don’t hire a sporting director without being certain that their vision aligns with that of the ownership. That can’t change so much in 5 months that is caused them to lose their job. Whether we find out the truth or not I’m certain it has to be a a spur of the moment decision caused by something specific.
Things can change very quickly in football.

Can only be over the Amorim appointment, from the sounds of it Amorim was Berrada's appointment and this makes it look like it was against Ashworth's wishes and they can't make it work.

If it was Berrada's appointment then it totally undermines Ashworth and what really is the point of him if he's not making those decisions.

I mean the CEO needs to trust the sporting director to make decisions that align with his thinking. If Berrada thinks the decisions don’t align with his strategy then he has every right to overrule, and is probably the reason we are in the position we are in now.

I do wonder if there is also a feeling that we could have got Amorin at the start of the summer, but instead Ashworth pushed for keeping ETH and sanctioned 200m spend plus a needless bumper contract for Bruno.

We know Amorin met with West Ham so he was available.

And the club has not confirmed this news till now.

Nothing on Twitter or Official site.

Absolute cinema.
Can't wait for another international break.

Interesting

Berrada is a football man, but is it not concerning that our CEO is the one behind our managerial appointment? We can all be happy with Amorim right now, but the CEO undermining the sporting director isn't a good look. There will obviously be more to it, but that doesn't paint a picture of good operations.

Well Berrada is his boss and should drive the vision which he should run with, there can't be more than one captain in a ship. For good or bad.

Finished club. INEOS have no clue what they are doing. I think relegation is on the cards. Hopefully, it gets rid of both the parasites and the IDEOTS.

Is now a good time to remind everyone I voted for Sheikh Jassim? Ok thanks.
why would that matter? Notice how quiet the Jassim party have gone after making a fuss about the story they didn’t have the funds. Sec filings are sec filings, they were just hot air.

And yet people blame managers. Clowns on each side of you. On one side you got players that lack everything from character to actual talent and knowledge. On other side you got money men and those above you who know nothing about managing a football club forward.

With that said. At least we are doing something that does not involve sacking poor managers.

I have no idea what these guys actually do but the optics we put out are just comical, didn’t we only just pay a few million for this guy? Waited for an eternity for him to complete his gardening leave whilst telling everyone we were getting in the best in class?

I just hope INEOS does the same with the players and move them on quick if they fail to deliver.

Dreadful governance.

You can’t put a pretend DOF in.

Either you want to change the culture and structure of the club or you don’t.

Looks like we don’t.

Why is everyone that bothered about this news until we a) hear more and b) see the replacement? People need to stop wanting to see negative news everywhere, he might well have been cack and Ineos are acting swiftly - the same fans who critique them for not being decisive for sacking ETH likely posting in this thread about how rash they are for sacking Ashworth.

If Ashworth has left because he stuck with ETH and wasn’t on board with Amorim (sacking him over summer transfers seems really harsh), then fair enough but even this quick exit/sacking seems brutal. If he got the full season then left then it probably wouldn’t have been as shocking, despite being somewhat surprising. I just hope they’re just as brutal with the players because boy do some of them deserve it.

There probably is some employment probationary shenanigans going on too since it was less than six months so the payout is probably fecking minimal, if at all.

So time will tell whether the hierarchy are brutal geniuses or kneejerk chancers.

It's mind boggling.

Official Statement

Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as Sporting Director of Manchester United by mutual agreement.
We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.

Nothing about finding a replacement for him.

Good news. You can not take someone who consider Southgate as a "top manager" a competent football director.

The whole point of a DoF is long term vision and stability. The guy has been here 5 months, so either we didn't know his vision, chose to ignore it or don't care about stability. In the latter case, why bother with a DoF?
