Daley Blind - Deal Confirmed

He was absolutely brilliant today, and gets praised year in year out for his amazing play at ajax.

But unlike today, normally hes extremely safe and just passes it back. I find him a lot better at CDM actually. Hes pretty good, but today gives you a highly unrealistic view of what he really is.

I would like him as a CDM at United

would love to have something like this:
--------------DDG--------------
--------Jones------X-----------
Rafael----------------------Shaw
---------X---------Blind-------
------------Mata--------------
X-----------RVP-----------Januzaj

Blind would be a good secure CDM, who you can savely give the ball to and include him in the build up game. Januzaj is the type of player that likes to come drift into the center and you can have Shaw overlapping him playing high up offensively, if he does that than Blind would be ideal to cover for him at LB. In fact Shaw and Blind could rotate moving up on that left flank and covering for the other guy.

We need more intelligent players in the squad and I'm all for us signing him.

It's the world cup, let's not forget. These sort of players play out of their skin in this competition. Carlos Salcido anyone?
God, he was exceptional.

... And then absolutely shite when he joined Fulham off the back of those WC performances.

Maybe the likes of Blind/Indi or some other youngsters that VG has in his mind is holding us back in transfer market.? He will probably asses them during the World Cup against Top quality opposition and will decide to sign them or not.

As we all know, transfer window is not even open and we have plenty off time left for signings. All these mix transfer reports from "reliable" sources suggest to me that Woodward is just playing the media along, without giving them any hint off our real targets (obvious).

He is similar to Shaw, good young talent however would be about 20m cheaper.

?

He's actually almost nothing like Shaw.

Defensively he wasn't tested at all. Silva was 'meant' to be on that side but he spent most of his side drifting inside which left only Azpi to challenge him, and going forward, he's no Jordi Alba. From a defensive view point he just had nothing to do, Spain played a lot down the left anyway.

Agree, he will be tested a lot more than tonight in the weeks to come

I predicted Shaw, BMI, Blind and Konoplyanka a few weeks ago and I'm sticking to it.

Please don't post links to torrents or game uploads, Caf can't allow it.

If one were to send such a thing by Private Message then it would be fine.
Isn't the Manchester United videos thread just full of that? Bit hypocritical no?

the good thing is we can still have a closer look at him for the remaining world cup games. apparently he can also play in a few different positions so that's another good point.

I definitely need to eat some humble pie. I still don't think he was particularly special or stand-out in the first half, but second half (along with the whole Netherlands team) he was brilliant.

Not many, I've made that known. That's way beside the point though, because you can't make a case that Blind is the best left back at the World Cup, not after one good game in that position. He thrived as a midfielder last season by all accounts, following a period where he looked like being a failed Left Back.

How can you say that he's probably the best Left Back at the World Cup?

He wasn't a failure at LB. He was Ajax's PotY from that position and one of the stand-out full-backs at last year's u21 Euros. That said, I prefer him in midfield.

You always were prone to plucking stuff out of your arse, mate.

I can understand some players going under the radar like Hernandez cause they play their football elsewhere in the world but lets not fool ourselves that he was on anyone's radar until LVG became our manager. If he was that good, I'm sure he would have been prior to this tournament. Had a great game but I want to see more of him, as if you didn't know anything about football, you'd think Iniesta was crap based on yesterdays result....

Also being the best in the dutch league counts for absolutely nothing for the last 5 years if not more...Luis Suárez aside.

I think if we don't sign the obvious world-class midfielders we are all longing for, then Blind behind Mata and Kagawa could be brilliant as a cheaper alternative in case we want to sign players in other areas instead. Daley would be able to change the short-passing of Kagawa or Mata up with brilliant long-balls in to space. Considering how you basically need a numerical advantage against Kagawa/Mata or the risk of them slipping through the middle is too high - I can see Daley getting a lot of time on the ball rather often which would be great for his long balls.

You mean like the time when I said Zaha had a poor attitude and was liable to outbursts on the pitch? Did you see him at Cardiff? Plucked straight out of my arse.

He was brilliant in the CL in the last two years and especially against Barca. The fact that you haven't noticed doesn't necessarily mean others haven't. I'm sure I've had at least 10 posts about him last season.

I wouldn't read too much into a game against Spain, arguably the worst team in the tournament.

Reminds me of Veloso, can play left back and midfield, lots of people were high on him at one point and he never materialised to anything more than a decent player.
I have barley watched anything of Blind, so cant really comment on how good he is, but if Van Gaal, decides to go for him, i will trust his judgement.

Thats funny cause might be me but I cant find anything post LVG being our manager? I didn't say I didn't know of him, I also know players in non-league football, just dont think they are utd quality either.

I thought he was tidy, but nothing more than that from this game. But cant judge on just one game.

This is very far from the truth. Spain are still a quality side and looked good in the first half. It could easily have been 2.2 at half time. Spain only fell to pieces in the second half as a result of Van Gaal's tactics and the goalkeeping errors for the third and fourth goals. A lot of credit has to be given to Van Gaal and his team for the way they bounced back from the first goal when it looked like Spain were in control.

Perhaps Spain will totally fall apart after this defeat, but they still have spades of ability in that squad.

Don't worry, I was joking.

Doubt it. If anything this should fire them up.

Lost to Switzerland in the first game in World Cup 2010 and that ended pretty well. This loss is probably a bit harder to deal with though I guess.

I wasn't a full member until a few months ago. There were certainly discussions about him in the newbies.
