He loves taking risk with the first time ball, it didnt work out for him every time but twice is more than enough. He undoubtedly helped his team win tonight. Need to watch him more to form an opinion but I liked what I saw tonight.

Defensively he wasn't tested at all. Silva was 'meant' to be on that side but he spent most of his side drifting inside which left only Azpi to challenge him, and going forward, he's no Jordi Alba. From a defensive view point he just had nothing to do, Spain played a lot down the left anyway.

If you watch that second half back, you'll see Blind shut all of Spain's movement on the right side down high up the pitch. LVG obviously sent them out to press Spain and win the ball back higher up the pitch and it worked a treat. Blind was a big part of that success. He reads the game so well and makes up for his lack of pace by being able to position himself well at all times. Plus, who needs pace when you can stick it on a dime for Robben and RVP as he can.

He was bloody brilliant today and would most likely cost a 4-5 times less than Shaw, so if Soton plays hardball for Shaw, I would be happy if we go for Blind instead. *

* Assuming that this brilliant performance wasn't an one off, of course.

Had the most touches from the Dutch players and second-highest pass accuracy. Won 100% of his headers, too. Besides the assists.

Exactly. Tactical masterclass tonight.

He is similar to Shaw, good young talent however would be about 20m cheaper.

It wouldn't be a Blind or Shaw kind of choice. If we did get Shaw, Blind would be a perfect option for our holding midfield role because he can fill in so well across the back four, which would allow the likes of Shaw to get forward on the left and never have to worry about us being exposed on the break. Blind showed tonight that he has fantastic awareness along with great vision to feed the ball to our attacking options.

Blind has only played a handful of games in central midfield and has only recently started playing there. We should be looking to sign a natural midfield player. However I would sign Blind over Shaw for the LB position.

Worth pointing out that he is better in midfield than at left-back.

Worth pointing out that he didn't play at left back or in midfield in that game. And it was just one game.

It's the world cup, let's not forget. These sort of players play out of their skin in this competition. Carlos Salcido anyone?

Who are "these sort of players"? Just out of interest. And even if he is that sort of player, whatever it is, it doesn't change the obvious qualities he displayed tonight, and, indeed, in each of the friendlies prior to the world cup.

Haven't change my opinion i love him, he's technically good but too slow to play wide for us. So do not want, unless he plays in midfield.

I, like others i guess can only give our opinion of the player on the limited games I saw. For you to dig many posts out after one good game from him does not show yourself in a very good light Invictus. Let's leave it at that as that's as diplomatic as I can be tonight.

I think people are getting a bit carried away with Blind. Good performance but his passes were made more meaningful by two world class players doing something with them on the other end.

Pretty much spot on. Taking nothing away from Blind good passes but highlighted by end product

If we sign Blind we should also sign Lens. They'd bring great vision to our squad.

Would buy him as well as Shaw. Can cover midfield if Strootman is being bought in Jan and cover LB once Paddy retires.

Don't be daft. He's not even top 5 left backs at the World Cup.

In the system that Van Gaal has this Dutch side playing, he's playing as a wing-back with a lot of responsibility most players would struggle to handle. In fact, given his unique position and ability to fill in at the back wherever he is required, you could argue he's the best in his position at the world cup.

Decent-at-best players. Players that are probably ten a penny in world football.

He's nowhere near that category. He was linked with us before the World Cup and has had an excellent season with Ajax. He has just played well against the world champions. People criticise him yet wish to splash out 30m on Shaw based on 1 season.
