Daley Blind - Deal Confirmed

I never said it was a shitefest, I said that it is well below the level we need right now. If we had a strong midfield and were looking to add a versatile squad player then sure, but our midfield is absolute crap, we need to aim much higher than a player like Blind IMO.

Just about anyone could improve our midfield at this point, but if the aim is to get back into the top 4 then he wont be enough, plus LvG's comments on transfers suggest he'd be against buying a player simply because he's all that's left on the shelf. Buying Blind for £20M and failing to get back in the CL will leave us with another under par squad player taking up space, much the situation we are in now.
Oh ffs you would think that our rivals for a top finish are bringing out the likes of Vidal, Xavi and Schweinsteiger not Gerrard, Aterta, Ramsey, Dembele etc. We have a better attack than either and I doubt that a midfield of Herrera, Blind/De Jong and Di Maria is much worse than you people are making it look. After the international break players will return from injury, we will be able to gauge the strength of the side when we are able to field a full strength side.

That elko born on twitter reckons he'd be a centre back/left back for us, so I don't really see the point. I thought that's what rojo was bought for? Though he played defensive mid for Ajax as well. We really needed a top defensive midfielder though, not another utility player.

He's effectively marketing Blind as a potentially better Sheasy.

This has zero to do with the fact that he's slow and weak, those CM's at the other clubs may not be world beaters but they are physically equipped for our league, Blind is not.

12.30am (outside working hours/everyone's in bed or just going) and the Dailymail are the first ones to report it :nervous:

Doubt we've agreed anything, if we had it would have been reported before 12.30am.

I think his favoriting of the tweet little while back seems to suggest this is true.

I don't think he's much better than the players we are selling talent wise but at least he has a set of bollocks.

Except that he is pretty average.

Let's actually give him a chance first. I'd much rather have someone like Blind in the squad who can fill holes in 3 positions than watch us play Carrick at CB, Rafael in midfield or Ashley Young at left back. Players like this are extemely valuable over a season.

Carrick/Herrera/Blind and Di Maria (who can play central) at least we don't have an average/lower tier Premier League level midfield anymore.

Maybe he's not the last either.

If his opinion helps anyone.. I am still not sure what is his best position.

He can pass the ball, can run with the ball, can cross and doesn't need a GPS to know where to be on the pitch.
He is way better than Fellaini, Cleverley and Anderson.

That's not exactly something to be shouting from the rooftops about though. Hope he does well and proves people wrong. He is a grafter, that's what I like about him.

Agreed.

 Can't believe twitter likes have broken yet another one of our deals. It's like some elaborate online marketing scheme on our part.

Anyway, that's not a bad price tbf. If we're just expecting him to be cover for midfield, LWB and CB then I'm happy enough, those are positions we badly needed numbers in after all. We're basically replacing Cleverley with a far more useful player.

I don't see him improving our first team though, which is what we really need. Still, hopefully there's a surprise or two still to come...

"According to reports in Holland"

If he's all we bring in then fair enough, I'd trust van gaal's judgement but I still think we need another quality midfielder.

He's not and never will be a left back, not in the Premier League.
