Daley Blind - Deal Confirmed

Daley Blind would be an awesome addition to the united team. Can play both midfield and left back, tactically aware, got a decent pass on him, physically strong etc. I wouldnt say he's the solution for united's midfield crisis but just to add more quality and option into the squad, i dont see why not LVG would sign him.

For sure. Plus you have the Scott Parker conundrum, as per @Annihilate Now!

At the end of the day, though, we have to have a little faith in Van Gaal being able to identify decent players. When he's seen as much of any player as he's seen of Blind and you have objective evidence that Van Gaal is not the only person to think he's very good, well, it seems a bit silly for "bloke off the internet" to decide that Van Gaal has it all wrong.

Assuming we actually sign him, anyway.

How are we so sure Van Gaal rates him highly? He could think he did a good job for the national team but, not think he is good enough for United. I think if Van Gaal rated him as highly as some here think he does he would have signed him a month ago.

I don't know why you are rolling your eyes, the Dutch league is the same level as the Portuguese league, below tier 2 which is Ligue 1 and Serie A, with the PL, La Liga and the Bundesliga as the top tier.

Ah right, I presumed by 3rd tier you meant League 1 level. Yes, if you're going to band European leagues into tiers, then it probably is 3rd tier, but the 6th or 7th best league in Europe is hardly the shite-fest you're making it out to be. Do we have to buy all our players from the big 5?

he is not the answer to our problems and if LvG really rated him we'd have bought him at least a month ago, it's clear at this point he'd be nothing but a desperation buy because we can't get anyone else.

Maybe true, but that doesn't mean he won't improve our team. If he's the best option available we should obviously go for him.

Blind is a smart buy. He will provide some steel in CM until Strootman/Vidal are fit enough only to move as LB once United gets their player.

I never said it was a shitefest either, but there is a big drop in q

I never said it was a shitefest, I said that it is well below the level we need right now. If we had a strong midfield and were looking to add a versatile squad player then sure, but our midfield is absolute crap, we need to aim much higher than a player like Blind IMO.

Just about anyone could improve our midfield at this point, but if the aim is to get back into the top 4 then he wont be enough, plus LvG's comments on transfers suggest he'd be against buying a player simply because he's all that's left on the shelf. Buying Blind for £20M and failing to get back in the CL will leave us with another under par squad player taking up space, much the situation we are in now.

If Blind improves our team a little, then along with our other signings it could well be enough to get us back into the CL. A Vidal level player would put is into contention for the title (in terms of player quality at least - either way we have issues to do with systems and confidence to sort out).

Signing Blind could be the difference between getting back int he CL or ensing up 6th or 7th again. INIn whihc case he's worth every penny of whatever we pay.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, we are way behind in terms of building confidence and continuity in our team, adding Vidal would give us a shot at building towards a top 4 finish, adding Blind just means we'll be slightly less poor than with Cleverley playing, but it wont affect much in terms of where we finish IMO.

He's on the list. I think he's the C option. Not sure what's A & B though.....

The fact we've not moved for him, with 3 days to go, speaks volumes about how LvG rates him.

Yeah he's definitely talented, and an intelligent player, but I think Van Gaal has reservations about him like if he could handle the pace and physicality of the premier league. He's not weak or really slow really, but he seems like one of those players who would look much better in a slower paced league with more time and space on the ball. Somewhere like Serie A I think he'd be brilliant. In the premier league though, I'm not so sure.

May be good in La Liga, judging by his stand-out performance against Spain!

As a replacement for Cleverley as a squad option he'd probably be pretty good, no? Offers cover in a fair few positions we're weak in.

He doesn't actually solve any of our problems beyond adding a bit of fresh blood and depth though, does he? Based on what I saw in the WC I can't imagine him going straight into our first team in any of those positions, which is really what we need.

He'd displace Fletcher. But not a fully fit Carrick.

Well our current problem appears to be not having any cover in midfield positions so I'd say he helps! Carrick-Herrera-Di maria is a very good starting midfield, though I am hoping Carrick more so just struggled because of the rest of the team and Moyes last year rather then him suddenly turning shit.

Indeed, though at 33 we'd have to expect him to start declining soon anyway. Ideally we'd sign someone good enough to push Carrick himself into more of a squad role but that doesn't seem too likely at this stage...

 Is instagram really our most reliable source of transfer news now?

We have been linked with Blind for a while now so wouldn't be surprised if we signed him

Now all we need is for Rojo to favour his pic, only then I'll believe it's on!

Rojo did like a pic on Instagram with Vidal, Blind him and Di Maria mentioned as joining before his announcement IIrc.

I think with Van Der Saar at Carrington the other day, us denying anything was up with Vidal and Carvalho but nothing on Blind and now this everything seems set for this to happen.

Wasn't Barcelona linked with him earlier in the summer?

Obviously we needed at least 2 central midfielders this summer, if someone told me back in May that the central midfielders we would sign would be Herrera/Blind and Di Maria (who can play there) i would have took that.

I think what it is with all the links we've had to Vidal and Carvalho even after we've signed Di Maria, it would be slightly disappointing if Blind was the one to come in, but would be probably be a great signing on reflection due to his versatility.

I know a team isn't made full of superstars etc but to me this really would be a meh signing. I mean what's the guys best position? Is he good enough to be that midfield general we so desperately need?

The major worries are obviously his physicality. Both pace and strength, he may seem a little pedestrian at first as the Premier league is played at such a higher tensity than the Eredivisie. He certainly seems like a player who has the stamina the put in an industrial performance week in week out, and seems intelligent enough in his positioning and reading of the game - you have to be, if you lack pace, in fairness. How good is his passing range? We saw him play a few peaches to RvP but beside that, is his short passing and ball control at a top standard for midfield?

That elko born on twitter reckons he'd be a centre back/left back for us, so I don't really see the point. I thought that's what rojo was bought for? Though he played defensive mid for Ajax as well. We really needed a top defensive midfielder though, not another utility player.
