Daley Blind - Deal Confirmed

If we change to a 433 Blind would be perfect in deep role. Can cover for other side full back when the full backs bomb forward.

If we stick to the 352, I'm not convinced he's good enough on the ball to play one of the deeper midfield roles.

So many people seem to think so little of this lad. Van Gaal obviously sees something in him, especially if he does indeed buy him.

I've spoken to quite afew Dutch football writers on Twitter and they seem to think that £20m for Blind would be a joke.

Really hope we don't sign this fella. The price being quoted is laughable as well.

The alternative being..?

Tyler Blackett is playing well, but to get us into the top 4 you need experience. Jonny Evans obviously isnt ready yet, and Smalling is pish.

Hes decent, we aint offering CL football, so this is the harsh reality - overpaying for average players who are better than our so-called average players on our team.

Those who are saying Blind isn't worth 20 million must be living on a separate planet. We signed Shaw for 30 million. Shaw is not yet as good as Blind as a wingback (as the world cup demonstrates) which isn't even Blind's strongest position. 15-20 million for Blind would be good business.

They said Strootman wasn't worth the £10m too. Just saying. They dutch league is very hard to judge nowdays.

He is not a CB though he can do a job there and we already bought Rojo for that role.

Overpaying for quality players in our situation yeah. For squad players ? Nah.

Though, tbf cannot say i have seen Blind much but i don't see him having a high ceiling either from what i've seen. Might as well pay bit extra for younger potential elite talent or someone of that ilk then.

What can Blind do at Wingback that Shaw cannot ? Cross better maybe but then Shaw is quicker on the transition. And we paid that for Shaw because of Potential over number of years. Not to be a squad player. He's pretty good already and can pretty much be a Elite player in the future for his position.

Blind is a better passer, as well as more tactically aware. He should be played as a holding mid to make use of his good long and short passing and ability to cover for the left-sided fullback/wingback when he bombs forward.

We must be signing this guy if we're selling midfielders with Herrera injured, Shaw injured and Rojo still trying to get his work permit. This has been the most logical signing all summer and I can't see it not happening at this point. Contrary to what others say, he wouldn't be an average signing; he'd be complementary to Herrera and Di Maria...

Vidal isn't going to happen and so I see Blind and Carvalho as our no.1 options right now.

i have problems with his reported lack of speed. He is intelligent, versatile and can pick a pass, but not really a tank and a bit slow from what i read. Overpriced too. Carvalho would be much better.

Herrera and Di Maria have a very high work rate (so does Blind) and Blind's ability to slot in almost anywhere along the defensive line is probably what Van Gaal is looking for. Also, the fact his distribution is very very good (he has a great range of passing) will solve our build-up play issues. As I've said all along. Most logical signing of the summer. People just don't understand what we'd be getting. While not being a destroyer like De Jong, he's also tenacious enough in the tackle.

hope so, seems nailed on. Always thought that he and another midfielder (Vidal) would come in. De Jong is a bit old and ruled himself out of a move last week if i remember.

I'd much rather de Jong instead of this guy. He can do a job for a couple of years on top of strootman in January or next summer.

If it was going to happen it would have happened already.
Weren't we saying that about Di Maria?
There's a couple days yet and plenty of business is done on deadline day. Think with all the talk of current CMs leaving we'll be trying for someone else and Blind seems a decent fit as he can play LWB too.

We need a hardcore CM and Blind just isn't that.
