They haven't put themselves out there at all. If it happens they are right, if it doesn't happen then it was going to but the club chickened out. If it never happens then he was on the brink but saved himself. They can twist it into anything they want without ever having to provide a single shred of truth.

It's nothing short of an attack on the club and manager from journalists who've had the knives out for a long time. We pissed them off with the press conference and this leaks hours later? A bit too coincidental for me.

 “we pissed them off with the press conference” Come on.

McDonnell is finished. No one is going to believe a word he says again. People only remember your last story and he got this one horribly wrong. Point being, don't drink something like this unless your information is absolutely 100% rock solid.

I have checked the Mirror update again and found absolute nothing to suggest that it's coming from Mendes. Both yesterday and today are coming from "senior figures" in the club.

But people will love to believe what suits their mind best though. They will interpret anything the way they like.

After well-placed figures at the club told us last night they’ve had enough, this morning they claimed to the Press Association that Jose Mourinho’s position at the helm of Manchester United is not under “immediate” threat,

Is there a good way of sacking a manager cause I've yet to see one. Never any winners, sack too early they never had a chance. Sack too late, they let it prolong. Great style of football but never won anything playing that way, stunk the place out but finish second.....feck knows

Don't do it while they are celebrating an FA cup, that's pretty much my only rule.

I have no doubt in my mind that someone from the club or Mourinho's camp told him.
Club wouldn't deny that Mourinho and Mendes were in London yesterday to meet Ed. The info is that the club have denied he'll be sacked this weekend. Doesn't mean they are not discussing a settlement.

Mourinho has to go. Pogba has to go. Woodward has to go. The Glazers have to go. Phil Jones has to go. Romelu Lukaku has to go. Jamie Carragher has to go. They all have to go. Have to. Bring in Pep. Bring in Arthur. Bring in Gill. Bring in Arab/Chinese/Russian owners. Bring in Johnny Stones. Bring in Hazza Kane. Bring in George Burley. Bring on the trophies.
Phil Jones is first on that list.

8am and it lasted 3 minutes. They have been open battles with him calling them out for weeks now. You know fine well how petty and twisted they can be, look at the way they go after Sterling. They are free to make up any shit they want and never have to justify it. The more unstable we are the better it is for them.

It's no more outlandish than the people claiming that it's all some sort of scheme by Jose and Mendes to get sacked.

Mirror saying the figures at the club told them they have had enough yesterday but apparently this is Mendes leaking for some.

I doubt people even read articles.

Doesn't matter though, does it? In fact, that makes it even more concrete - Ed has decided to sack him, but not "immediately" - could be by the end of the week.

Note what the Beeb says in its briefing:

United have not responded to questions about the report in Saturday's Daily Mirror.

Means they haven't denied it. Only postponed the inevitable, likely by a few days.

A lot of them spend a long time building up credibility. The journalist who was one of the early ones who broke LVG was the same behind this report. They wouldn't throw their buildup of credibility away for an early presser ffs.

That mendes tweet from Hayley McQueen was from 2016

The journalist in question was exceptionally well regarded in football before this. If it's Woodward or Jose that's leaked it and it's untrue I'd hope they would at least support the journo financially now because he's done in sports journalism if this is false. Literally nobody will believe a thing he says and this story will follow him forever.
...

How many journos can you remember ever being affected by getting stuff wrong?

Ideally you get it all done between games.

So manager loses, story of him being sacked breaks, it's announced that he has left the club, we move on to the next game with either the new manager or an interim appointment.

What isn't good is having the story break just before (or in Van Gaal's case during) the next game, forcing the manager to go through the charade of a game (and the awkward accompanying interviews) when everyone knows he's doomed anyway. Or as in Van Gaal's case having to deal with the stories just after he's actually won a trophy for the club.

Fraud of a manager.

Omfg.

He’s been stealing a living for a long time and living off of a fantastic past reputation.

The guy is a toxic personality that is dragging our club through the mud. He’s fallen out with most of the players and has us playing the most boring football of every top club in Europe. So yes, a fraud!

Ah, the 'United Way'. Sticking with a manager even if he's rubbish and not performing. Meanwhile, Bayern, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and the other big clubs ensure that if someone isn't doing their job properly, they're sacked.

Do we want to be a force in domestic and European football? The days of a manager staying 20+ years are long gone. No club sticks with their manager for more than 3 years these days.

Keeping Jose doesn't help anyone, it will just get worse.

I hope to God OT doesn't cheer him today. It is totally misguided. Stop listening to Neville/the press and think for yourselves. Regardless of the board, Jose is doing a terrible job and that should not be forgotten! It is the main issue after all.

It's funny, they didn't have a problem disrespecting LVG with their Mourinho scarves and booing the man mercilessly. Yet he never disrespected the club like Mourinho, and this is the disgraceful man that Neville and some fans want to be treated with dignity when he's shown this club feck all respect?

Completely puzzled by our fans at times.

The article doesn't read as a Mendes leak at all. It's obviously someone at the club made a mistake and leaked it to the prees and the club had to move on now and say nothing in it. It's still probably true, but it's not from Mendes.

So the leak wasn't from the club then? What will Neville say now?

I have no doubt in my mind that someone from the club or Mourinho's camp told him.
Club wouldn't deny that Mourinho and Mendes were in London yesterday to meet Ed. The info is that the club have denied he'll be sacked this weekend. Doesn't mean they are not discussing a settlement.

Well they strongly denied him being sacked so I'm assuming he will be in charge after international break. We would be just fecking totally stupid to strenuously deny the story on a technicality - i.e. the weekend.

One thing I'll love once Mourinho is gone is we'll get rid of this trash accusations for any poster who defends his club manager, unless in 2 years people were start saying "Zidane fanboys".

And we’ll hopefully get rid of retorts like ‘clueless’, ‘plastic fan’ etc. Works both ways mate. The condescending nature of the Mourinho ‘in’ crowd has become nearly as toxic as the man himself. I have no problem with anyone who defends him and puts up a fair, rational argument. It’s the ones who stoop to sarcastic bollox with no basis for their arguments that really bother me. I’ve had some great rational debates with some of the ‘in’ crowd and conversely I’ve seen some absolute guff and people insulting other posters because they want him gone.

Both sides have idiots of course so I wouldn’t deny that. But certain posters have taken their defense of him to all new levels even though there’s literally zero positives in keeping him. But hey, hopefully the new manager will make us both happy eh bud :)

A leak from the club doesn't mean that it's a controlled leak. I knew about leaks that simply were loose mouths.

There are no doubts about that part

I remember the day Moyes got a standing ovation, fans were even giving him hugs. I wanted the floor under me to open up.

Basically we sack him now at a cost of 10 million or fail to qualify for next years champions league at a cost of 75 million. Also no player is going to want to come here or stay here at present and that will cost us in terms of commercial revenue growth.

No brainer!

What are you talking about here ?

How has he thrown anything away? As soon as it's denied they just claim it was going to happen but now the club have bottled it according to "sources". There's no risk for them. Look at the bloody transfer rumours, they just make shite up and never have to justify it.

Too late. Gaz Neville has rallied the masses. You can sense it just from reading this and the other thread.

...

No but this is very different. This is one of the country's most trusted journos saying something will definitely happen. It's the kind of thing that will now affect his life for decades of it's wrong. It's like a top guy at the BBC reporting the Queen's death. It would be career suicide to be wrong.

Well they strongly denied him being sacked so I'm assuming he will be in charge after international break. We would be just fecking totally stupid to strenuously deny the story on a technicality - i.e. the weekend.

They said hes not under immediate threat. By way of timing and the fixtures ahead, the only time to sack is after Newcastle (if that's what they're intending to do).

The club statement is just a shit attempt at damage control I reckon. Trying to calm the media from anymore bad words today before the sack thereafter.

That's the thing though. Before the board backing story broke this morning, they began running a live blog to follow the 'action' of his sacking throughout the day in the lead up to the match. Whether the story happens as they published it originally or not, they were absolutely certain they had been given accurate information.

It also means that they know absolutely nothing.

They don't, but the briefings indicate Ed has reached boiling point. Giving a statement that he will sack Jose and then saying "not immediately" can only mean postponement to avoid further circus (ironically creating a circus by such briefings anyway). It's impossible that Ed wanted to sack him and then thought "oh feck it, Gary Neville doesn't like that" -- Ed is flaky, but not completely off his rocker.

Wouldn't be all surprised if they wanted to sack him this weekend but after Neville's rant and possible fans backlash, they have gotten cold feet.

The state of this club atm.
