A victory for the SJWs then. You guys have been crying injustice and lack of class/dignity all night so you all can breathe a sigh of relief now. Your man has the board's backing and isn't going anywhere.

Mourinho is finished. The funny thing is that our club cant do anything right atm. Even fire the poor guy had to be a circus.

If they really are backtracking then we are in a bigger mess than I initially thought.

Sounds more and more like Mourinhos doing. He wants to feck off, he's just waiting to get sacked to get his compensation

Interested to see if as Gary Neville predicted, the Old Trafford fans will come out and back Mourinho.

My guess is they will.

Way to feck up my morning, best night sleep I've had in a while and now this. So the circus will continue!? I do not think I have been more upset by the club/manager/team in my 33 years supporting and I'm including the previous two managers.

It's posts like this that make me really happy if he stays

I'm 50/50 on him going and wanted only to see a few more games but some of you are pure hysterical.

That's for sure. OT always cheer on the manager regardless of their view on his long term suitability.

The point was that the timing of the story getting out relative to him being sacked was bad. This is just the worst of both worlds. We get the stories that make us look bad while also keeping the manager who makes us play bad.

The "I hope those who complained yesterday are happy now" type posts only really demonstrate that you didn't understand the point that most of the people complaining were making.

We will be out of top 4 and then Jose is fired, just like LvG right? No CL next season then. Woody needs to make the choice: let it unfold as it is and sack Mou with no compensation, but lose potential money from CL or sack him now, pay him a dozen million quid and try to get back into top 4.

Moyes said Ed didn't back him with the players he wanted. LVG said he was bringing in 3rd and 4th choice targets and Jose asked for players publicly and Ed came out and spoke about resale value. 3 managers in a row cannot be the problem. Woodward has a lot to answer for.

This is a load of rubbish and you know it. Moyes spent the summer dilly dallying, waited till dying minute to get fecking Fellaini days after his release clause had passed, fecked up the Thiago signing because he wasn't 'sure' about him and was sacked in his first season because apparently our title winning squad was crap. If Di Maria, Falcao, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Martial where LVG's 3rd and 4th choice signings who the feck where his first choices?I've never even heard any of LVG's most obsessed defenders make this complaint. We signed his dutch players, Eredivise's top talents Depay and Blind, where those 3rd choices too? How about his ex player he was desperate to bring here, Shweisteinger... Third choice too? As for Jose, do you recall Jose in his saying he gave a list of his FOUR players to the club and later said he was satisfied he had gotten them? He also sounded pretty smug in his second summer as he had made another list of still four players and gotten 3. He wasn't backed this summer for reasons I understand perfectly.

Woody has a lot to answer for I realise that, a lot, but not backing managers isn't one of them. I feel he even backs them too fecking much, look at the load of dross we allowed LVG bring into this club. I can't believe anyone is talking about LVG not getting players he wanted , dude signed 14 bloody players in two seasons and we've gotten rid of most in just two years. Was this why we went for successive games without shots on target? People need to stop buying to these excuses our shit managers make and blame Woody for things he actually does wrong. Jose losing to West Ham, Derby and Brighton has absolutely nothing to do with Woody. Valencia, Sevilla and shit teams playing better football than us has nothing to do with Woody, stop with the fecking excuses for managers who fail

Good for you and your laughing emoji. Glad I could help.

So much moral outrage. I just want to enjoy watching us play again. I'll be gutted if we're stuck with him. Stick your "dignity" up your arse as far as I'm concerned.

I think he's going no where. The options available are serial failures who have had longer and better teams but continue to win feck all. Zidane on the other hand, being here is purely about his profile and I find it impossible to judge what he can or can't do as his only managerial history is only Real. A team like Barca which has a pedigree of players which it's about what and not if they will win a trophy.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they changed their mind after Neville’s outburst and saw the backing that it got.

I stupidly believed that today was going to be the day we got rid of this fraud of a manager.

If it’s true that Mourinho has lost the dressing room then chances are the match later today will be fecking brutal.

Here here. The compensation he will get for doing a shit job is more money than most of us will ever see in our entire lives. Zero compassion from me.

Mirror's latest update: they describe the club's latest comments as 'backtracking' and suggest it will still happen, just not this weekend.

Oh ffs. This is beginning to look like more and more like Jose's handiwork.

So true

This too!

He's waiting to get sacked. We're waiting for him to walk. Even by our post-Fergie standards this is farcical.

Can't they just agree a compromise settlement to put an end to this?

I think you've highlighted what most people have against Woodward. There's a lack of a long term on the pitch vision, particularly in terms of playing style and recruitment targets, which is why the idea of a DoF is more popular than ever.

Most people realise that having Maguire or Alderweireld in the back line wouldn't suddenly see us top of the table. We could obviously do with better CBs, but the problem runs a lot deeper than that.

Yeah I was anticipating a bright and pleasant weekend too, but not looking too good at the moment, is it. The match is going to be brutal indeed, even if we win.

Think the folks at The Lowry are going to be pleased the see the back of sourface too.

If the news turned out wrong, Mirror should be absolutely be banned from here for good.

I agree, or at least that reporter should. This would be an insane bit of news to release if it wasn’t actually true.

The standard of football journalism isn’t high, but I refuse to believe they would put themselves out there like that without knowing it was legit. Then again, you never know :nervous:

The reaction Neville is expecting reminds me of Moyes walking out to a standing ovation like a WWF wrestler

Or the Board probed public opinion.

So to summarise 29 pages.

Mirror: Jose is getting sacked.
BBC: No he isn't.
Mirror: Jose is not getting sacked yet.

The Mirror are right either way. Like betting on red and black. Genius.

The point wasn't to be compassionate by keeping him on, the point was to be compassionate by avoiding going through the charade of the Newcastle game with everyone knowing he was about to go. To not have a repeat of what we saw when LVG was being asked about his sacking right after he had won a cup final.

The ideal was to either get through the Newcastle game without these stories coming out before then firing him or, even better, fire him before the Newcastle game even takes place.

It's funny as the analogy is, it's like being unhappy in a relationship and wanting it to end. When you start talking about it ending, there's a reality that actually you don't, you just want to feel happier. I wanted Jose to go but the alternative is what at this point of the season? Jose doesn't help himself though and the football (the most important thing) is absolutely and painfully dire. I can forgive him for lots of things, I can blame some of the players too but this issue has been the case long before some of the current stuff.

The alternative is to have a team that’s set up to attack. To not see starting line ups with all 3 of Matic, Fellaini and McTominay. To live in hope that Martial, Rashford, Sanchez and Pogba would be allowed some creative freedom. To stop worrying about how the opposition can hurt us and instead let them be concerned with how we can hurt them.

I doubt we would challenge so soon, but let’s at least see some good football for a change. Hey, Liverpool and Tottenham have won nothing but everyone wants a piece of what they’ve got at the minute...exciting to watch, proud to support, looking fwd to match day.

Would sum us up if Mourinho gets similar treatment then 90 mins later, fans have witnessed another borefest.

Basically we sack him now at a cost of 10 million or fail to qualify for next years champions league at a cost of 75 million. Also no player is going to want to come here or stay here at present and that will cost us in terms of commercial revenue growth.

No brainer!

Let me help you work through this because a lot of people seem to be afflicted by this lazy "No options" refrain.

1) Zidane will install superior attacking patterns of play. 2) Zidane's man management is light years ahead of JM. 3) Players will want to come and play for Zidane.

That's all I need to know. The question is whether Zidane even wants the position.

You look at the Newcastle situation...imagine JM handling that with 1 ounce the patience and class that Benitez has exhibited. Mourinho's taken the toxicity to DEFCON 1 with his off-field antics.

It’s possible as well. What I don’t understand is not days ago, it seemed like everywhere was unanimously in favor of him being sacked, on here and on social media.

Now this story comes out that he’s going to be sacked, and everyone’s upset. I don’t get where the change of heart came from.

I don't think there are any guarantees that we would finish TOP 4 even if we sack Jose.

In fairness they can't know anything, they can only go off what they're told.

Given the nature of the story and McDonnell's track record you would have to think a strong, reliable source told him the sacking was going to happen, just as they did when he broke the Moyes and LVG sackings. The source (or sources) could always be wrong or lying without McDonnell knowing though.

Will have a hard time digesting it if it was Mourinho who leaked this!
It was stated him/his team were the ones who leaked the van Gaal sacking. He also has the most to gain from letting this out early. Doesn’t look well for the board/club at all to hang the noose before an actual game.

Can you help me with tonight's lottery numbers too.

What is his track record? I’m not UK based so I’m not really familiar with journalists besides the ones that are commonly posted on here. Is he usually reliable?

That was my impression as well, given how it was put forward, it seemed like it was something that was set in stone.
