D. McDonnell - the Mirror: Jose will be sacked this weekend | BBC: Jose still has board backing

This guy McDonnell better do what Keegan does when he goes to Newcastle next time he comes to Old Trafford.

It was stated him/his team were the ones who leaked the van Gaal sacking. He also has the most to gain from letting this out early. Doesn’t look well for the board/club at all to hang the noose before an actual game.

Yeah I don't dispute that Mourinho stands to gain from this. Makes his backers look even more foolish instead!

If I remember correctly this was when it was leaked straight after we won the FA cup that Jose has agreed 3 year deal with us, not that LVG was being sacked. We knew that one a few days before.

Morale has been crushed by latest denial. Morale will be crushed further with people giving Moyes esque ovation to this man. I need solace.

He won't be sacked after he gets cheered coming out today. If we end in a draw I think fans will cheer him too. Woody will panic and keep him longer because of this.

Annoying. Such a mess. Jose's not turning it around, so just sack him.

The journalist in question was exceptionally well regarded in football before this. If it's Woodward or Jose that's leaked it and it's untrue I'd hope they would at least support the journo financially now because he's done in sports journalism if this is false. Literally nobody will believe a thing he says and this story will follow him forever.

Can just see this false hope angering fans. If we produce a steaming shit of a performance today then scenes could get ugly.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they changed their mind after Neville’s outburst and saw the backing that it got.

I stupidly believed that today was going to be the day we got rid of this fraud of a manager.

If it’s true that Mourinho has lost the dressing room then chances are the match later today will be fecking brutal.

Fraud of a manager.

Omfg.

The alternative is to have a team that’s set up to attack. To not see starting line ups with all 3 of Matic, Fellaini and McTominay. To live in hope that Martial, Rashford, Sanchez and Pogba would be allowed some creative freedom. To stop worrying about how the opposition can hurt us and instead let them be concerned with how we can hurt them.

I doubt we would challenge so soon, but let’s at least see some good football for a change. Hey, Liverpool and Tottenham have won nothing but everyone wants a piece of what they’ve got at the minute...exciting to watch, proud to support, looking fwd to match day.

It's funny cause people's memories are short. Arsenal played some of the best football in the prem for years but didn't win the league yet won the cup a few times. This was considered as failure, now this is considered as success loosely (as Liverpool and Spurs) aren't even doing that. People always want what they haven't got and I fully believe even if the football was great, the results for us as Utd fans would still be greater. I agree though, it would def be more palatable if it was easier on the eye.

If Zidane is a replacement then I don't want Mourinho to get sacked even tho it's been "mission impossible" to watch United lately. Zidane has won three CLs in row, but I've watched Madrid in La Liga and they weren't good. They had best squad in the world but weren't even near to winning the league, what makes you guys think Zizu can challenge for the title with this United squad? His gameplan is generally weak, it's like total chaos relying on individual quality. He never had plan B, which went well in the "cup system" in the end. Also, he had Ronaldo, and we can see Real this season without him.

Imho, we do need to get rid of Mourinho at some point, he's just not the manager for us, BUT we need mega changes in the club as well. Players can't be allowed to do whatever they want and yes I'm implying to Pogba and his idiot of a manager.

You'll get your solace when we put on a spellbinding display of attacking football tonight

What is his track record? I’m not UK based so I’m not really familiar with journalists besides the ones that are commonly posted on here. Is he usually reliable?

That was my impression as well, given how it was put forward, it seemed like it was something that was set in stone.
It's interesting actually because no journos usually post articles like that unless they get info from a good source. Made up articles are usually something like "X could get sacked if they lose the next game" which is basically a pure guess. Yesterday's one was really definite.

He was one of the first (if not the first) to break the news that Van Gaal and Moyes were about to go. Given the similiarly definitive tone of this piece, you would have to assume he got what he thought was similarly credible information.

:lol::lol: All these people defending Jose now look they have been played by the person who doesn’t give a single feck nor about this club nor its fans. Again. It’s obvious he tried forcing club’s hand to get the full pay-out, while we’re in the process of discussing his settlement.

I think you've highlighted what most people have against Woodward. There's a lack of a long term on the pitch vision, particularly in terms of playing style and recruitment targets, which is why the idea of a DoF is more popular than ever.

Most people realise that having Maguire or Alderweireld in the back line wouldn't suddenly see us top of the table. We could obviously do with better CBs, but the problem runs a lot deeper than that.

Playing style is on Woody too? We have a problem with recruitment in that we just buy whoever the manager wants but yet people still use that as a stick to beat Woody when the signings fail. When he actually puts his foot down and says players like Maguire and Toby are too expensive and short term targets they still attack him. If there's one thing to blame Woody and the club for its how we do no recruitment of our own. Woody is incompetent in a lot of aspects, we overpay for players, pay them ridiculous wages, have no long term recruitment policy like you said etc, but our current on pitch problems are totally down to the shit managers we've had of which he can also share the blame as he just hires who's available. But he backs whoever he hires, and the football on the pitch, there's nothing he can do about. So I don't get some of the attacks he gets. It's like when people see their favorite managers fail they just look for who to blame it on. You think if we had hired Pep or Klopp we'd be playing a midfield of Fellaini and Matic or still unable to pass out from the back after two whole seasons? Hire a good manager who knows what he's doing and all these complaint about management goes away, ask Liverpool

Man City announced Pep Guardiola with their manager still under contract with over a year to run. There's no proper way to sack someone.
Just get on with it.

Proving once again what a spineless decker he is.

Because @GlastonSpur has sent him a brochure of their shiny new stadium, along with a model of what he has to look forward to, made out of matchsticks.

It's cloud-cuckoo land to believe that Pochettino is going to abandon Spurs mid-season, especially shortly after signing a new, 5 year contract, to take charge of the mess left by Mourinho if he's sacked.

I still don't understand how some came to the conclusion that Mourinho was with the fans and had the club's interest at heart.

He's a self serving barsteward. Nothing will ever change that. Get him out ASAP.

A victory for the SJWs then. You guys have been crying injustice and lack of class/dignity all night so you all can breathe a sigh of relief now. Your man has the board's backing and isn't going anywhere.

Total shambles. Only good thing is that people are increasingly realising that Ed Woodward is behind all this mess.

This. Remember when Liverpool's transfer council was a running joke in here .

I don't understand the timing at all. If he's going to be sacked regardless of the result, why not just do it before the game? If they believe he's lost the dressing room, why risk a poor result against Newcastle?
It would also be quite surreal if United clicked and won 4 or 5 nil then he got sacked a few hours later. Not likely to happen but it would be a ridiculous scenario if it did, but the whole saga has become a bit of a circus anyway.

Couple of fantastic posts there mate. You've got it all right.

I still don't understand how some came to the conclusion that Mourinho was with the fans and had the club's interest at heart.
Mourinho is very good at divide and conquer .Just ask Real and Chelsea fans who turned on Casillas, Ramos, Hazard etc.

If the information is from Mendes, it's clear Jose wants the sack. Which means it will happen, as there is no way we can keep on an unmotivated manager.

The Mirror is not bull-shitting. I'm inclined to believe their deduction of the club's statement - "not this weekend". There is no need to sack him this weekend with an international break looming. Interview the candidates, choose carefully and finalize agreement with the next manager. Then negotiate Jose's compensation package and announce the new manager immediately after Jose's departure to prevent requirement of a caretaker like Carrick (as results may suffer) and to avoid giving the press too much time to dwell on negative things.

Is there a good way of sacking a manager cause I've yet to see one. Never any winners, sack too early they never had a chance. Sack too late, they let it prolong. Great style of football but never won anything playing that way, stunk the place out but finish second.....feck knows

I agree, or at least that reporter should. This would be an insane bit of news to release if it wasn’t actually true.

The standard of football journalism isn’t high, but I refuse to believe they would put themselves out there like that without knowing it was legit. Then again, you never know :nervous:
They haven't put themselves out there at all. If it happens they are right, if it doesn't happen then it was going to but the club chickened out. If it never happens then he was on the brink but saved himself. They can twist it into anything they want without ever having to provide a single shred of truth.

It's nothing short of an attack on the club and manager from journalists who've had the knives out for a long time. We pissed them off with the press conference and this leaks hours later? A bit too coincidental for me.
