D. McDonnell - the Mirror: Jose will be sacked this weekend | BBC: Jose still has board backing

I'm sure he doesn't want to be sacked, and there is more to life than money.

But he's about to receive probably £15 million. For everyone reading this, it would be literally the best day of their lives. It would change your life overnight.

My girlfriend is f*cking skint, she's just got a good new job, but they are absolutely sticking it to her. And they're holding the fact that she's on probation over her head like the Sword of Damocles. She's just worked 16 days straight (which is obviously illegal) because she wants to pass her probation, and they've basically told her that they can get rid of her if she doesn't do it, and everyone else in the office has done it.

With all due respect, I'm not going to cry any tears for a very wealthy man whose job is to preside over a ballgame.

Wanting Mourinho sacked and thinking the club's board are not up to it are not mutually exclusive.
Don't know ow why some are crying that people are happy he might be sacked. For all we know, a DoF might be around the corner.
I think the club lacks direction and a total restructure is in order.
I still want Mourinho sacked and will be very pleased when he is. Convinced the right man can get more out of some of our players and get us playing football that we can actually watch without wanting to our bleach in our eyes.

Mourinho has to go. Pogba has to go. Woodward has to go. The Glazers have to go. Phil Jones has to go. Romelu Lukaku has to go. Jamie Carragher has to go. They all have to go. Have to. Bring in Pep. Bring in Arthur. Bring in Gill. Bring in Arab/Chinese/Russian owners. Bring in Johnny Stones. Bring in Hazza Kane. Bring in George Burley. Bring on the trophies.

I’m not sure about that. Mourinho deserves to know as soon as the decision is made. Him briefing/leaking the news is just him being bitter and trying to garner sympathy or support. I don’t think it reflects badly on the club if that is indeed the case.

Big if. You have to remember United is listed on a stock exchange. If we are genuinely sacking him this weekend, leaking this to the press poses significant advantages than the news hitting the public when the markets are closed.

Not the mention there is history with Moyes and LVG.

No it’s Jose Mourinho that seemingly has very little interest in the long term future of the club.
You don't hire Jose Mourinho for his long term vision ffs! We knew exactly what we were getting when we hired him. It hasn't worked out, thems the breaks with Jose. We were banking on him doing what he's done at every single club before ours, warts an' all. We got the warts but none of the cream.

EDIT:

Full Gary Neville reaction on Sky Sports as the news broke.

——————————————-

Sky Sports are reporting it.

They say regardless of the result, he will be sacked this weekend.

The story has been broken early by certain journalists.

Gary is absolutely spot on here. It needs to be said, our club is currently a shambles.

A genuine true candidate for director of football, but wouldn’t be a yes man to the horror show that is ed Woodward.
I said this the other day - the guy is United through and through.

Delighted with this news.

All these soft lads crying “oh the club is rotten things won’t change”, I guarantee you within a few weeks we’ll be playing much better football.

Jose has loomed a miserable dark cloud over this club since January, he has to be removed from his position as things are rapidly getting worse for him and us.

I respect him for trying but he’s damaged goods these days, doesn’t have anything a modern manager needs.

If I am honest, I'd put more faith in a guarantee from Currys.

We're dealing with players who can't even pass the decking ball, let alone play attacking football. Even then, I don't want to see attacking football as such, I am more interested in successful football.

:lol::lol::lol:

Moyes found out in the press.
Van Gaal found it out through the press right after he won the FA cup.
And now the Jose story breaks before our game tomorrow.

Absolutely disgraceful from the club if these reports are true. Eddy has made the club a fecking circus. Sacking Jose is the right decision, doing it through the press before a game is cowardly.

I hope he is next. Time & again he has shown that he is incapable of handling the football operations. He must go too this time.

Then Pogba in January. Time to end the circus and go back to being a football club. We don't want any version of Disneyland, we want our football club back.
LVG'S sacking was leaked by people close to Mourinho. You can't blame the club if the guy it's agreed a contract with can't keep his mouth shut.
I agree Moyes' was done poorly.

Fully with everything Neville said.

There is something rotten in the way these things are being handled and there is clearly a total lack of football knowledge right the way through the board.

Jose had to go at some point this season, but no point doing it until there's a succession plan in place.

So you know there isn't?

I agree with Gary's points on the ineptitude of the club hierarchy but I can separate that from Mourinho's performance and specifically his man management and tactics. His press conferences were atrocious. Never has he conveyed the sense that 'we're' all on a journey together. It's much more, "what I did to get this team to 2nd last year was one of the greatest things ever done". "I've won 3 PL titles" etc...

A competent football knowledgeable board, understanding MUN's club ethos, would have never hired Mourinho to begin with. It's a bad match compounded by the board abandoning him. You're never going to have a sequence at this club, at this moment, where the CEO gets sacked and the manager is retained. The manager was/is always going to go first in this club setup.

I want him gone as much as the next fan, but I genuinely don't think he's done a bad job up till now.

He made us hard to beat.
He brought in some good players.
He won stuff.
He played better football than LVG or Moyes.
He was quite entertaining as a person.
He probably would have been ok had the board bought the players he wanted in the summer

But he played ugly football.

He couldn't coach players into improving. Only buy or bully.

And ultimately he did his third season thing. Which really doesn't play well with the old guard, even if many of them are living in the past.

So it's time, for sure. But he wasn't the unmitigated disaster his predecessors were.

Well done Gary Neville for calling it as it is.

Apparently the club is on the verge of sacking one of the worlds most successful managers and leek the news to some two bob tabloid. Embarrassing.

I didn't know that. You sure about that?

Regardless, 2 out of 3 have been handled badly. It's not the way to go about things.

Mourinhos camp leaked the news story about LVG so yeah there is history there.

I have a hard time believing this is what has happened.

After the way the club have handled the last three sackings, (if this story is true), what decent manager is going to be stupid enough to take the job?

This club seriously lacks any semblance of class right now

Who do you think leaked the previous sackings?

I have a hard time believing this is what has happened.

Like I said, letting this news leak to the media when the markets are still open is a hugely beneficial position than it hitting the public when the markets are closed. That is simply an irrefutable fact, and provides a clear incentive for the Glazers and ergo by association Woodward.

For months before the sack and on the day of the sacking, the news cycle had come from Mourinho's pov. With journalists saying sources close to Mourinho believe he has an agreement with Man Utd and that LVG will be sacked. It's. It a coincidence that all the journalists with point in the Mourinho to Man Utd story were all foreign.

I dunno, a lot of rumours that he actually wants to be sacked rather than resign so that he gets his payment package.

Apparently that is why he and Mendes met Woodward in London tonight to discuss his severance package.'

I get the feeling he never truly settled at United and it wasn't what he imagined.

Like others have said; this will all be for nothing if the wrong person gets the DoF job. We probably need to come to terms with expecting a new coach every three or so years, and if they're left to decide who we buy then we're up paddle creek without a shit.

I think this is relatively fair, and will probably be seen as so in the fullness of time.

Still the right decision mind. Even if not the right way.

Only christ knows why Guardiola wasn't the once to succeed Sir Alex. He was the perfect fit and these awful years could have been avoided had he been the one. The time has come now to accept the fact that hiring the next manager based on cv will bring us nowhere. It's time to hire someone who's philosophy and approach to the game matches this club. I don't give a rats ass what they have won in the past. Guardiola had won nothing before he took over Barca and neither had Zidane before taking over Madrid. I swear if we go and hire someone like Conte I will lose all hope and give up on football as a whole. It pains me to say it but the next appointment will be crucial for the future of this club and with Woodward in charge of whom that will be and with the Glazers above him I have absolutely no hope of a good ending.

Only a tiny fraction of the club's value is traded on the market and it's not like the Glazers are selling up. I have trouble believing market movements would make the club leak the sacking of their manager.

Mendes leaked it.

He had three years to be a success here. He couldn’t get us to string 5 passes together.

I wouldn’t bother he doesn’t listen to fact.

The fraction of what is listed is irrelevant. The movement in value of that listed fraction has a huge impact on club value in the short term. Yes Goazers aren’t selling and from their investment perspective it’s not a big issue, but club value and market outlook would have a significant impact on many other elements of the operations of the club.
