Gaming Cyberpunk 2077 (PC, PS4/5, Xbox One)

Decided to pre order to test my new GPU.

I'm really hoping they've learned from Witcher 3 and upped their game with the RPG elements and how they work. At very least not have a broken levelling system! I'm optimistic for the overall game, I just can't see it being disappointing to the point of being shite.

Is the hype for this really that big? Maybe I’m out if the loop but the days of MW2 levels hype seem over...

Jesus by your non Nintendostandards that's basically like saying you think it'll be the best game ever ;)

Did that game have hype? I think you are confusing that with the popularity after release but I don't think the anticipation has ever been this high for a game.

I don't get why people go on about hype. It's not a real thing you can measure.

Just play the game and enjoy it. Or don't enjoy it. Who cares?

Yeah, to be honest, I agree with you the issue is people build up unrealistic expectations and then disappoint themselves.

Not real?

There will be a number of posters covering themselves in hype on Thursday when they can finally play this.

As gutted as I'd be, it would be hilarious.

I don't remember this amount of hype for a game ever though. Closest I can think is GTA 5 but Cyberpunk seems to have broken the internet with the levels of hype it's generating.
FFVII Remake would be the most recent high-water mark, from my perspective.

Well I'd imagine the CDPR employee was given a warm welcome seeing this thread:

https://www.resetera.com/threads/cd...-time-we-stop-making-excuses-for-them.307474/

has been stickied to the top of their gaming forum for months now. I'm going to bet the guy wasn't bad news at all and had to deal with a lot of toxic twats dogpiling on him.

Edit: I looked into it and it seems the Moderators didn't vet someone very well and verified someone claiming to be a CDPR employee which wasn't the case at all.
Interesting.

Unm... yes. Monstrous hype, most supers had big midnight queues for it. I dunno, I’m looking forward to 2077, but I’m not sure it’s the same level *shrug*

Unsurprisingly a lot of reviews saying it's a buggy mess.

Hopefully a day one patch resolves a lot of that

Currently 91 on metacritic, but not receiving unanimous praise. Few saying there are a lot of bugs, needed more time etc.

IGN gave it a 9/10. Too be expected. It was never going to be as good as Witcher 3. Even if it is only 1 score off.

IGN are terrible though, they are far from someone to trust with reviews. Good or bad. Gamespot too.

All negatives in reviews I have seen are regarding the bugs though which will be ironed out. Witcher 3 was pretty buggy on release too.

90 is mighty impressive but not an indication of how it will go down with gamers. The discrepancy between professional reviewers and fans has been very marked lately. I'm optimistic though.

There is a 43gb day one patch in fairness. 90 seems really good to me for a game that is riddled with bugs. From the way they talk about the world, sidequests, choices etc. it sounds like exactly what I wanted it to be.

TW3 got something like 92 and wasn't really lauded as "best ever" material on its initial release, only after a few months when the dust settled and it was patched to the high heavens.

But hey, Judy's not perfect either. I've seen her clip through chairs and float across the room while confessing something deeply personal. And yet, I am duty bound to stick through the bugs for my friend. I genuinely care about her.

Hype was real.

I have full confidence in CDPR to fix all the bugs. Bit worried about PS4 pro version of the game.

Nah, I can't see it being considered a true great when all is said and done, but I'd happily settle for a decent game within the setting, maybe something to build on.

It will be interesting to see how it plays though. I know people have fallen over themselves to already make excuses if stuff like the gunplay isn't great, but in truth it'll say a lot about future CDPR games and if they are growing in that area or not.

Shorter than expected supposedly. 25-30 hours is a figure going around.

That's fine by me because I don't get the same kick I used to from 100+ hour marathon games like Witcher 3 but I can see it attracting a lot of "value" criticism.

That figure is for the main story though. If you do side quests, it's a lot longer by all accounts.

All reviews mention that it's a buggy mess though. Not surprising but still disappointing.

Could be made even longer if it’s 3 times that. 25 hrs per replay with the 3 factions.

I feel like people are focusing on the minor negatives and not acknowledging the 91 Opencritic score. If it was that buggy and that much of a mess (or a disappointment) it wouldn't score that high.

On one hand, it should be easy to throw in another handful of customisation options so that's valid.

On the other hand, from a narrative viewpoint Night City is a vulgar, sleazy place. Going in with the mindset that this place should be a bastion of LGBTQ acceptance seems naïve to me.

Yong Yea mentioned in his review that CDPR went in quite bold and he is really pleased that they didn't hold back ( with adult theme). One ad is what I think is causing issue here but it does sit with the general ambience of the place.

Read the whole review if you have time, it's a decent read overall. She does focus a lot on trans representation, admittedly - but that's understandable. It's not something the majority of us will care that much about but it's still an interesting perspective. And she does talk a lot about the games' other qualities, good and bad.

Overall, it looks like the game is what I expected it to be, with an awful amount of bugs. But then I played Skyrim at release and it wasn't the bugs that made me give it up so I'm not THAT allergic to those.

I meant to get back to your earlier post asking about the Trans issues but that article sums most of them up. It's an iffy game if you feel strongly about that stuff, which is a shame as I would have been completely invested in it. CDPR aren't the amazing company a lot of people think they are.

most people say around 100 with the side quests. One review also said when he played it again - because he did some more side quests first - it actually made the main quest longer apparently (more missions opened up)

Gamespot gave it a 7. Don't they usually dish out fairly high scores or are they more harsh now?

That reviewer is pretty harsh. She also bogged it down a few because of the trans stuff. Think she only gave TLOU2 a 7 or 8 too.

What has been said about the overall feel of the City/map? That's the most important thing imo.
