Priority blah blah blah. That may be the case, but if we've been given some encouragement to sign this fella we are hardly going to turn around and say, "hold up there, we haven't signed our priority signing yet, so we'll have to delay for a short while. We'll get back to you."

So true, We didn't sign P3 because we couldn't sign P2 which was held up by P1.

Fixed. Now, that is a proper muppet line up.

I see where you're going mate and I'm right with you. But, the whole point of us splashing for a defender in the transfer market is for a left-sided CB or LCB to replace Johnny Evans who has proven himself to be a panic horse with the ball.
You've got that from one preseason game vs Liverpool? Evans has been our most competent on the ball for a few years now.

Nope, from a large number of articles who all seem to suggest the same thing coming from LVG's camp. When there is singularity in opinion on the need for LCB in the press, it's most likely true.

Evans isn't left footed though is he?

The 25m fee being quoted seems sensible. There is no way he is at the moment a player to be paid in excess of 35m pounds.

The fee in italian press is 40 million euro, about 28 million pounds. I think that is a decent fee.

I think most people would be really chuffed with this aslong as more come in after.

We will sign a defender... but even without Hummels, if we have Cuadrado and Vidal come in, we'd have an incredible team. Some people underestimate just how awesome our team could be.

That is a daunting team to face I'd imagine.
A man can dream, feck me that is a quality team on paper and no doubt VG will make it work.

That's a team that should be challenging to win the CL, not trying to qualify for it..... :(

Really hope there's no truth to the rumors about Juan Cuadrado. I just cant see him hack it in England. And once better players become available he'll be in the same situation as our current wingers.

I'd much rather spend twice as much on Di Maria, however unlikely.

Seems like he would really suit the wing backs, more so than anyone i can think of. I did some research into him and feel better now that I've found out he's expeienced at RB and he can tackle!

Let's make sure we get Cuardado and Vidal then, hey? :D

I think Cuadrado and Vidal are nailed on to come here...I would love benatia but I'm not sure why we are waiting so long to make a bid when the season starts next week!

A defender of benatia's caliber is rare to be available, we should capitalize on that and just pay the £35m that Roma want.

I know this is off topic, but this is tripe. He's our best ball playing defender, even when Rio was at the club.

Januzaj Rooney
Mata
Shaw Fletcher Herrera Cuadrado
Evans Smalling Jones
De Gea

We could be starting the season with this team if we sign him. The problem is when you look at the bench, there's no one who can compete with anyone in that back 3 and midfield except for Rafael.

Wanting to buy a left-footed centre-half has nothing to do with Jonny Evans ability as a footballer.

Yeah we're massively lacking in defence. I'd like to see Blackett/Keane brought up plus 2 more - one being a back up for right or left back and one being a quality centre back.

I actually wouldn't have minded Vermaelen as he'd provide experience and competition, but I'm also glad he's not coming because he's a little bit shit.

I wonder why Sky/BBC etc haven't picked up on that quote of him asking to leave yet? I'll bet it is a bullshit quote going round Twitter. Twitter is worse than it has ever been for bullshit rumours.

One experienced centre half would be enough IMO. That's four first teamers and Keane and Blackett as cover, though in all likelihood an injury crisis to more than a couple of our defenders would likely lead to a temporary change of formation.

And an injury crisis is extremely possible with our defenders track record  Jones, Smalling and Evans all get injured a lot and Rafael has just been sent home from the tour. Even Shaw was out for a while at Southampton once.

1 cover defender and 1 top defender is needed imo. Keane and Blackett are promising but we can't rely on them even til January. Deals need to be done now!

Barca are still sniffing around according to some Catalan Journo's.

Suarez €75 million, Mathieu €19 million, Vermaelen €15 million.

Can they afford another €35-40 million transfer and where would they even play him?
They had €60m left in their budget before they signed Vermaelen is what's being reported in the Catalan media.
