Cuadrado

It's not just Ashley Young though, we have 3 players all competing for that one spot , it just seems strange to add such an expensive player to a position we already have 3 options for.

Maybe because he's better than all of them, hasn't he played at wingback before along with being a right winger, I'm sure he even switched to the left wing in the World cup as well, he sounds like the specialist Van Gaal has talked about.

Watching him in the World Cup, his style reminds me of Neymar, super quick feet and very tricky, didn't he also provide the most assists as well?

I'm not disputing whether he's better than them as I've only seen him play in the WC, I was just questioning having 4 players for one position, especially given how much he'll cost.

Maybe he's getting rid? who know's. It's all bollox until he signs anyway.

Ashely Young can compete with Luke Shaw on the other flank so we then have him competing with a likely to be injured at some point Rafael and Valencia.

Its not really one spot though. Cuadrado and Young can both play on the left or right.

Rafael hasn't shown whether he's going to play the role well, Valencia hasn't looked any better as a wingback than he was as a winger. Shaw played well on the left

Competing is a ncie way of saying it - Cuadrado would be an upgrade on all three, even Rafael wrt wingback. Plus we have had Young regularly starting games at LWB.

Why is it one or the other? Spending £30m on Cuadrado wouldn't necessarily mean we won't spend on other positions.

True, but I just don't think we need a wing back, as we already having the likes of Rafael, Shaw, Valencia, Young and James that can play there, unless Van Gaal is thinking about if/when we convert to a 4-3-3.

Cope Barcelona are reporting that Cuadrado's Agent will be in Manchester tomorrow.

I agree that its not our most pressing concern, but Cuadrado seems better than all of those players and is also versatile enough to play different roles too. Would be a good signing as long as its not the only one we make

Agreed.

Not happy with this. But he's better than Valencia I guess.

I've hardly seen anything of this guy, bar the world cup. I notice from his stats that he's not scored that many goals before last season, when he suddenly smashed in 15, plus a couple for his country for good measure. Anybody know if this was a) sudden marked improvement, b) change in position / role, c) random blip or d) Eboue?

This assuming we are actually in for him. It seems like the Spanish press set every transfer story relating to one of their big 2 clubs as a some kind of duel involving Manchester United.
More like nearly every transfer of a player worth more than £10M is a duel between club X and Manchester United.

Not really seen much of him apart from the world cup, but from reading up on him he seemed to have been originally as right back, then he was played as a wing back and as an attacking winger for Florentina last season.

He seems he can play any where from full back to wide forward on either flank.

Right, having watched YouTube compilations I feel he could become an excellent wing-back for us, he certainly appears more of a threat than Valencia and Rafael. He also appears quite versatile, having played on the wing, full-back, wing-back and midfield.

Strikes me as Barcelona briefing the press to put pressure on Fiorentina.

When we signed Herrera the Spanish papers had it first, but it was done a day or two later. No frills, no fuss.

Cuadrado to United has been rumoured since the World Cup, still nothing...?

He was jizz at the World Cup and his stats last season look good, plus Barcelona being interested shows he is pretty good.

He strikes me as the kind who has flop potential though, due to the way he plays is like all out dazzling skills and he may drive you mad.

If we end up paying £30m for him it may seem stupid but you never know he seems widely sought after and if Van Gaal wants him...

Dani Alves is the problem for Barca and the wage he's on. Reports are Alves is staying so Barca have given up on Cuadrado.

Painfully obvious, but I hope we are in for him. He is an absolute monster going forwards. Streets ahead of young, Valencia and nani.

Does his dribbling style remind anyone of Ronaldinho? Again, most I've seen of him are YouTube compilations.

With Di maria psg bound, Cuadrado is the best winger available at the moment. Our side needs pace and he is the type of player we should be looking at.

Hopefully Woodie makes him an offer he cant refuse.

If reports are to be believed, the fee is €40m. Not convinced he's worth that much. Why do we seem to be overpaying on all our targets? That will be at least €30m we've overpaid on all our transfers if we successfully get Cuadrado. And what takes the cake is that we sell our players to other teams for peanuts.

Granted I haven't seen a lot of him last season, but the year before he wasn't this highly rated or anything. He was rather average in fact. Has he really improved that drastically in a year? He wasn't all that at the World Cup either.

We either overpay or potentially face another disastrous summer. It is not something we should be overly critical of this window, in my opinion.

James Richardson doesn't really rate him, for whatever that might be worth.

He's better than all of them currently. By quite a way with some of them.

Overpaying went out the window when we finished seventh after winning the league (!). Let's utilise that war chest.

Dunno about this fecker, but he can't be worse than Valencia...

He has a shit haircut, tho.

If we got rid of Mr. Bicep aka Valencia then it would make more sense to have Cuadrado, Young, Rafael and Shaw to compete for the 4 wingback positions. Having said that, for the asking price, I'm not so sure he is worth it...

I guess I can go along with these points if the idea is better to be overstocked than caught short, and he does seem more suited than our actual wingers to play in a 4-3-3 should that switch happen next season, it's just the price with quite a few options already that makes me wonder if there is really anything in these stories.
