I'm not sure I want this to become serious to the point where he wants to leave. Because I can only see the super daddy clubs being able to afford him. And we'd be fecked if he went to Chelsea or City.

like feck fergie would let that happen.

We know how much fergie loves and rates him; if there is a hint that he's on the market, fergie will do anything to get him.

Afterall, the glazers back fergie to the hilt according to fergie don' they? :smirk:

We're not going to spend 80 million on him. City can. Fergie wouldn't have any say in that. Let's hope the option of him leaving doesn't open up.

I doubt it would happen, but Ronaldo could run his contract down and we could either wait to sign him on a free or pay like what we did with Van Persie if he had only a year left.

The lad's apparently had a bit of a meltdown. As I mentioned in the Liga thread he commented after the match that he hadn't celebrated his goals because he was feeling sad, about his professional life, things in the club and that people in the club knew what was was wrong.

Of course all hell has now been let loose around Real(ity Show) Madrid. Loads of speculation about why. Ranging from, "he wants more money," at one end to him feeling as if he's always having to prove himself to the press, the fans, the club and he's fed up of the dissection of every piece of body language or facial expression - though of course he's given them a mountain for dissection now.

There's a suggestion it may be linked to how the non-Spanish players, and the Portuguese in particular (like Coentrao), are viewed as the hired help.

So, popcorn anyone?

Their best player and their Manager are Portuguese, are people really viewing the Portuguese contingent as 'hired help?'

Wonder if he was that certain player from a certain club Fergie was on about?

Umm, I don't think Fergie was being specific when he said that.

That's what it sounded like to me too when reading the quote. More like he was saying if a special player ever became available, the owners would be willing to spend the money.

feck knows though, would have to listen to the audio and the context to know for sure.

Yeah. Besides, I can't imagine Fergie implying "We'd spend big, but only on Ronaldo". Sounds a bit hilarious and hard to believe to me.

However, both Fergie and Ronaldo are known to have a close relationship. It's not implausible for Fergie to know how Ronaldo is feeling.

Sure, but it sounds very far fetched to me. I'm not saying it's impossibly for Ronaldo to ever come back to OT. Rather for those quotes to be about Ronaldo. I just don't see Fergie making such a "fanboi" type comment.

Damn, this thread is going to end in tears for a lot of you, getting your hopes up.

I'd take Ronnie back in an instant as well, and I'd love to think that if he was ever to leave Madrid he'd only ever want to come to OT, but I'd rather not get my hopes up.

Well you may as well enjoy this one for the next couple of weeks. International break n'all.

The financials in this are on an entirely different level though.

Yeah they're and that's why I think no club will be able to afford him. I mean City didn't buy Hazard, RVP, Martinez etc despite all of them being available and half of the people on there were convinced that City will sign a superstar.

For Ronaldo at least 80m fee and the wages of more than 350k, makes it an amazingly expensive package. Also he'll be 28 next season.

Still think it's a contract negotiation ploy, he is still on the contract on which he signed for Madrid and with the way he performs he'll need a raise.

Why does Ronaldo not get love from the Madrid fans, btw? I've heard of this a number of times and I find it incredibly strange. The guy a phenomenal player, they are lucky to have him. Yet you get this feeling that he's constantly trying to please them.

He really comes across as such a little bitch. He needs a good kick up the hole and be told to cop on

I've always found it bizarre how much the Spanish media invest in this kind of thing. Ballague was full of it for years - most of it unfettered bollocks. It's reminiscent of magazines like Heat analysing body language in celeb photos and using pop psychology to infer all sorts of fantastic conclusions.

If he really wanted to join us we could make it happen. Start acting out, run down your contract, make it clear you only want to join United and accept a pay cut. Would be naive to expect that sort of loyalty from him though and he'll most likely go to the highest bidder if he was to leave. Maybe PSG.

Well he scored 2 goals so he's doing the job better than others. And we don't even know what the issue is for the solution to be "a good kick up the hole".
