Cristiano Ronaldo

Madrid pundit Siri Lopez says Ronaldo is depressed and was crying for 20 mins in the dressing room after the match. There were also some reports he was disappointed over the way Madrid have treated Kaka. This is getting bizarre.

I reckon you'd do well to remember what this lad has achieved and the contribution he made to a lot of our success while he was here. He's had nothing but good words for the club, the fans and the manager since he left, which is a lot more than can be said of certain so-called club 'legends'. Personally I think United fans should give him a by-ball and show him a bit more respect.

I think highly of him and if he ever wanted to come back then I'd travel to Madrid to fly him back, but he comes across as a massive media whore at times and a bit arrogant as a person. How many times has he come out with this sort of thing now?

Respect? After the nonsense he pulled off in the summer of 08, I have anything but respect for him.

He's passionate and doesn't hide his feelings well, I'll give you that, but like I say, he's had nothing but respect for us since he left so it would be cool if we held him in the same regard, public outbursts or no. But hey, that's just my opinion, I'll take back what I said to you're entitled to think what you like about the lad.

Respect for us since he left? Would have nice if he had some decency and respect for us while he was here.

Anyway now apparently he's unhappy about the treatment of Coentrao. Spanish tabloids are going to have fun for the next four months. Or till he gets a new contract.

Someone blatantly hung up that photo of him, Iniesta and Messi in the dressing room.

The lad's apparently had a bit of a meltdown. As I mentioned in the Liga thread he commented after the match that he hadn't celebrated his goals because he was feeling sad, about his professional life, things in the club and that people in the club knew what was was wrong.

Of course all hell has now been let loose around Real(ity Show) Madrid. Loads of speculation about why. Ranging from, "he wants more money," at one end to him feeling as if he's always having to prove himself to the press, the fans, the club and he's fed up of the dissection of every piece of body language or facial expression - though of course he's given them a mountain for dissection now.

There's a suggestion it may be linked to how the non-Spanish players, and the Portuguese in particular (like Coentrao), are viewed as the hired help.

So, popcorn anyone?

Sorry mate, for a minute there, I thought he was our best player in 2008/09. My mistake.

However good he was on the pitch, he was far more disrespectful to the club and Fergie in the summer of 2008 than even Rooney was with his October antics. But Ronaldo/Madrid fans here will happily forget that.

He could have threw a strop and went on strike/ refused to play, or at least not bothered trying very hard, instead he gave his all and was extremely professional. That's all I really care about.

Worse than Rooney? Dear me. He said some shit, but at least he didn't question the boss and the direction of the club, and at least he still gave it his all and continued to score goals.

spot on

Ronaldo was hardly a prick. Only thing he didn't do was to answer directly if he was going to leave or not. And why should he do when he wasn't going to do so yet? He played great and then left.

You have three options when answering "Are you going to go to Real Madrid" when you do want to. You can lie. You can tell the truth. Or you can be vague and not really answer like everyone else in football does because what you say can really affect different things.
Maybe he acts on his own accord. Maybe he's taking advice from someone, be it manager/family member/agent.

I'll take vague in the media over everything else if it means you can keep on doing your job like a professional. If it's not affecting his performance then who are you to be mad?

Ronaldo spent half of 08/09 doing very little, scored in just 5 of his first 18 league games. And obviously that's not too bad at all, it's the fact that his general play was so uninspiring, the worst it'd been since 2005. Threw a strop and walked down the tunnel (something about an injury?) in that first half of the season too. He had a couple of highlight moments with the Porto/Arsenal strikes and was in great form in April and May but he was nowhere near his 06-08 level and I'd say VDS, Evra, Vidic and Rio were all clearly better than Ronaldo.

He said 'I stay' right after the Champions League final.

Fergie himself never has a bad word to say about him, doubt he took it to heart.

If he actually had a fall out with Mourinho, expect it to mount. Mourinho is a stubborn bastard and from what I've gathered of Ronaldo, he is too. Having said that, I won't believe anything until I see Ronaldo speak himself.

Which he did.

He also had surgery the summer of '08. Had no pre-season and played his first game a month into the season.

Your number is also wrong. He scored 8 league goals in the first 18 league games. He had a dry winter but he wasn't the only one. In those 11 games in a row which he didn't score in (that's all competitions) we won six games 1-0, drew three games 0-0 and lost one game 0-1. The other game was won 3-0 which gives us the goal difference of 9-1 in 11 games.

I remember when Fergie subbed him off and he threw a strop with Fergie just stood there.

Overall he has been good to us.

That's the way I remembered it too. He was a whiny little bitch that whole season.

He was our top scorer but he was in horrible touch. There were some good performances like the Arsenal semi but nothing like the previous two seasons. His head was clearly already in Madrid.

Not to mention the woeful UCL final where he pretty much tried to win the thing by himself by shooting on sight.

Scored in 5 games. He took 27 games to get into double figures in all competitions. Really, it was all about the defence up until about March time.

"I'm sad. But I won't tell why."

What is he? A 13 year old girl?

Get your paws off him, he's going nowhere! You're like a bunch of vultures! :D

Take your pick of reasons, folks:

* He's upset at Kaka's treatment.
* Upset that Messi is now the world's highest-paid player.
* Upset that Casillas & Ramos apparently wanted Iniesta to win the UEFA award.
* Upset at the amount of Werewolf threads on the Caf.

Maybe Cal? has told him that he thinks Messi is the better player.

I've the feeling he was actually happiest playing for United. But, if he returned, he'd probably also act-up sometimes & think that he was doing us a big favour just by playing for us.

Sorry, my bad. You're right.

Jojojojojojo did say something the other day about this ankle problem that he's got. He needs to rest it for about 4 weeks straight every year and after that it would take him about 6 weeks to get back into shape good and proper.

He doesn't normally look like he's playing injured but in a way he always is. His leg is taped good and proper every match.

He was on top of the world when he was with us and I think that he misses that aspect most. You are right though Steve, he probably would act like the tom cruise of football if he came back to us. The summers would be tiresome and repetitive though.

If Casillas and Ramos really wanted Iniesta to win I understand that he isn't happy about it. I'm sure it'll blow over though.

The delusion that he misses United.

Nah, I'm basing that opinion on the positive way he interacted with his United team-mates. I don't doubt that he's happiest in Madrid.
