Cristiano Ronaldo

No matter what anyone says or thinks about him, since he's left, he's spoke only great things about us and been really respectful. Can't help but feel like one day he'll be back here.

Ronaldo certainly brings out the whiners in our fanbase.

It was going to happen one day. I'd prefer it to have happened in a final after a season of defensive solidity but what the hell, it's a long time since we last played Madrid and it's got a lot more romance to it than Galatasary or Valencia.

As for Ronaldo in the match. Hmmm, well so far this season, he's the only Madrid attacker who's at the races. Di Maria is in his worst form since he got there, Benzema isn't scoring, Ozil is dreadfully inconsistent and none of Madrid's midfield combinations work. Stop Ronaldo and they won't score.

The trouble is that's this month (and last month, and the month before) and where they'll be in February is anyone's guess. If nothing changes and we do our jobs right then who knows we may even be able to give him a cheer when he goes off defeated at the end.

As for the no celebration thing - let's hope it isn't put to the test.

Always loved him at united...but always knew he wasn't united at heart because of his true love of Real. We were like a loving caring, kind stepfather to him who he fell in love with but always wanted and needed to find his real father. He found him, only to find out that the love from the real father wasn't quite as strong as what he had before. However, he will continue to try to prove himself to gain that love he desperately wants and needs.

so...although he might not celebrate externally...inside he will be having fireworks...

He's the opposition, he's the main threat to our progression in this competition. Chant his name at the start...but then for fecks sake rally and scream for every united player on that field no matter what.

Afterwards...if we win?...we can do a viva ronaldo after we have sung our own success.....if we lose?...and he scores a hattrick?.......well.....sure we can do a viva ronaldo!! Why not....he's our step-son....

It's a load of tripe tbh.

Both sides are guilty of rewriting the past with Ronaldo.

That's an example of it.

The only rewriting of past has been done from one side which has seemingly forgotten Ronaldo antics after we won the Champions League, he spent all the year fannying around Madrid. Don't get me wrong I still like him but he still acted like a cnut.

Exactly. It's quite surprising how people seem to have completely forgotten or gotten over the enormous amount of crap he did that summer with the entire "only God knows the future" rubbish and then him agreeing with Blatter over the slave comments.

I'd read the article and I'm struggling to find too many faults with it in all honesty. I thought it was widely accepted that he's all about himself but it's generally not a problem because for the most part he's of huge benefit to the team.

Lets be honest He should be treated no differently from how John O'Shea was on sat. Big cheer and applause when his name is read out, from then on he is opposition and can expect if he fouls to hear the same noise as if Luis Suarez did it. Lets not have a debate about this (though there is nothing wrong with that) and just enjoy the tie we get to have, few clubs have things like this to look forward to and though we may well get a similar treatment as a cubicle door in a public toilet it's nice to have and be in this position.

I dunno, I think the least we can do for him is a guard of honour and some confetti.

I don't disagree with you from what we know and the media reports.

However, the thing for me is how many of the team (Rio etc) and in particular Fergie, still talk to him on a regular basis and consider him a friend.

They know him, I've read the media, I'll trust their judgment over the information I have.

I don't fawn over him, George Best is was and always will be 'the man' in my view anyway, but I also look at the other players relationship with him and think he probably isnt as much of a cnut as I wanted to think that last year.

I'm in favour of singing feck all to do with Ronaldo and instead singing for the players wearing red.

Exactly 010. The one thing I fear the most is that Real Madrid need to score a goal to win and Ronaldo dives in the penalty box and scores the penalty. I can imagine Mourinho running halfway down the touchline and Ronaldo doing his usual arrogant "calm down."

Ronnie was a good'un for us, but that goes out the window for 180+ minutes when we face them.

Personally, I hope Rafael tears him a new one and he is left ruing the day he turned his back on us. We've got plenty of players to idolise and celebrate now, let's give them support and adulation that they deserve.

If anything, I'd prefer if we sung a Giggs or Scholes tune as Ronaldo come out onto the pitch, to remind him what merits a real legend.

An applause is fine, but singing Ronaldo's name would be very small-time.

Don't get me wrong, I like Rafael and he is a good defender and all that. The problem I can see is that he likes to roam up the pitch a great deal. If he ever gets caught in possession or loses the ball, then he will let Ronaldo in quite easily or, he could catch up with Ronaldo and commit a rash tackle, and if that happens early enough in the game, then Ronaldo and Mourinho will try to expose that particular problem, should it arise of course.

It would be great to sing songs about legends, especially the King, the only player I really liked with us. He gave us the best part of his career and the best way he could pay us back was not leaving to go to another club, but to actually retire. That is what a legend does, he retires with the club that idolises him and the fans too.

Some people defended Bale's diving, I can't imagine what kind of excues would be said if Ronaldo does that.

I would doubt many would be defending Ronaldo if he dived in the box against his former club and wins a penalty.

Hypothetically, we are in the 2nd leg with the aggregate score 2-2 and Ronaldo dives to win a penalty which Madrid score and puts them through and knocks us out of the competition.

I doubt many if any users on the Caf would be making excuses for Ronaldo and a lot of United fans would be fuming at him.

We can forgive Denis Law for scoring against us even though our fate was already sealed. However, I have a feeling that if Ronaldo dives in the last minute at 0-0 and scored the winning penalty, he will be treated a great deal differently. There will be a few who'd be calling for his head and all posters will be torn off the walls in disgust, all duvets will be torn to shreds, and the only person that will be defending him, will be Cal...

The pitch forks would be out in force if it were to happen but i doubt it will. I am sure Ronaldo has plenty of respect especially towards the manager so him doing something silly and idiotic could potentially tarnish his reputation somewhat amongst some United fans.

Oh Evra, talks a lot of sense, but also talks a lot of shite. You have to admire his love and repect for the club though.

Agreeing with Blatter about slavery left a bad taste in the mouths of a few, including myself. He might have said that he supported Real Madrid when he was a child, but if Barcelona had put in a decent offer, he would have gone there without thinking twice. Put it this way, you have a decent payday, you have won 8 trophies in 6 years with probably the best manager around and you want to follow a dream. Remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. If that was me, I would want to play every match as if my life depended on it and give it my best shot, and even if I was on the bench, I would stick around because I know there is a chance that I could possibly win a game from there.

It also left a bad taste in my mouth (No pun) with his shenanigans whilst the transfer saga was going on and made me lose a little respect for him.

We had a thread in the Newbies after the draw was made for the Champions league and we had some Ronaldo fan boys say his name should be sang whilst the game is going on and i and others reminded these users of the things he said when he was so desperate for a move away such as being a "slave".

I would prefer for the fans to be singing for the whole game for our current players. No harm in applauding Ronaldo whilst he comes on the pitch but that's where it should stop in my opinion.

We also had one user say that United fans should cheer for him if he scores for Madrid despite the goal in a hypothetical scenario could be the one which knocks out of the competition.

Oh the newbies...

That was one of the last threads I posted on down there. Some crazy stuff alright.

 Bordering insanity. Even as a rival fan, I find that a completely ludicrous thing to do..whichever newbie said that, yes you, be ashamed of yourself you spastic!

A very crazy thread.

I never expected him to be here forever. He is foreigner...always thought he would end up at Madrid. I was not bitter when he left. He helped us win those titles and the CL.

But I want Madrid to be well beaten...if possible.

I don't think many United fans would have expected Ronaldo to stay at United for the rest of his career so maybe i am being a tad bitter with his shenanigans when he wanted to move to Madrid.

In his time at the club, he was fantastic and no one will forget that aspect of his career at the club and is one of our best players under the Fergie era.

That's a bit harsh as the poster in question is a relatively decent poster but that post was rightly ridiculed by a lot users who saw the post.

Ronaldo was an awesome player for us, looking back at the clips he scored some lovely and crucial goals. Would still like to see him throwing his arms about in frustration like we've seen for us and them, and would like to see him cry when his team gets knocked out. United first.

"I hope he plays on my side," said Evra. "He knows from training what a tough defender I am. I know how to catch him. I know he can make the difference at any time but the emotion means it will be really difficult for him."

I love Evra's sense of humour. 'I've got him figured out, it'll be a doddle. But it'll be hard for him because he loves me so much.' You can just imagine the cheeky grin when he delivered that one!

Give him a good reception, abuse him throughout the match (like fans would abuse any other star player), then applaud him when the match is over if he hasn't done anything cnutish. I don't see why the fans should sing his name during the match, even if we were leading comfortably. I don't understand why his name should be sung during the match...doesn't make sense to me.
